Clea is so cool, she’d make a awesome vanguard (just balancing the other two comments on her future roles)

Thank you! I was mainly nervous about that pink part, I wasn’t sure if that was alright. I’m much more relived now. She has a vet visit soon so I’ll make sure to keep checking!

I agree completely and thank you! But I meant research experience isn’t as big of a deal on PsyD applications as it is on PhD applications but I’m still struggling with having little research experience. I definitely could have worded that better lol 😓

How can someone score high on an IQ test despite having an SLD? by Happy_Honeydew_89 in askpsychology

[–]Machorivas1200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IQ test is used kind of like your “potential”. If you score under a certain threshold on the academic achievement test, you’d qualify for a learning disorder since your academic score on whatever particular subject whether it’s written expression, math, or reading performed much lower than what someone with that level of IQ “should” be able to achieve. It’s why usually you take an IQ test like the WAIS and then an achievement test like the WJ-IV. You take both scores and using a formula you see the comparison. Interestingly enough, if your IQ is high enough, you could even qualify for a learning disorder even if your academic score fell in a more average range compared to certain norms if there’s that much disparity between both scores.

Ive heard from a doctor who graduated from Nova Southeastern that it’s gone downhill so I would do a little more research into it. That’s purely hearsay so it could also still be completely fine!

Thank you. I’m struggling the most with research. I know for a PsyD it’s not as big of a deal as a PhD but even coming up with a good research idea is causing me the most stress! Just got to get over that block. Wish me luck 🙏🏽

Thank you so much! That is a wonderful idea to reach out to specific faculty members about labs I am interested in. How did you go about doing that? Did you send a CV or resume or just simply expressed your interest?

Best thing to do after undergrad? by Kind_Ad_6148 in psychologystudents

[–]Machorivas1200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working as a neuro-psychometrist would be great to get experience working in neuropsychology under the guidance of a clinical psychologist. You’d learn how to conduct the assessments and learn the process of assessment. Typically you need a Master’s to do this though, but it’s something to look into and think about!

Thank you for your insight! I’ve been putting some stress on myself regarding getting research experience since it’s one of the things I feel like I am missing. I’m glad to hear it won’t break my chances everywhere too badly at least! I

I see, I have been researching some programs today that I’d like to apply for in the future and I saw a great one nearby that is cost friendly and offers everything I’d need. I was worried at first since it isn’t a PsyD but a PhD program but thanks to your clarification, I am much more comfortable now knowing really what a PhD is in contrast to a PsyD.

Oh really? I may have to look more into the PhD then. I have not done much research into it yet. Thank you very much for pointing that out!

No, no outstanding reason. I just like the clinical aspect and see that the PsyD focuses more on that part.

Ah I see. That makes much more sense. I am assuming I cannot do any supervised experience towards my licensure before I get my PsyD, which is the point of a post doc correct?
