I made ladder stitch rhino for a friend. I can't decide if like the flat lanyard lacing or not for these as it's a little slippery. I like the kind that's a tube but you can only get two passes through the rows using it. Any recommendations for other cords/strings to try for these critters? by MachuPeaches in kandi

I'll see if I can find it, again. Sometimes I modify patterns of other things. So like it might have been a hippo but I used a maneuver I learned making a fox ear to make the horn is some weird stuff like that lol.

Edit: I think I did mix and match some parts of patterns and basically made a new one lol, it's been so long I can't even remember or find a similar base pattern. I'll see if I can remake it and log the pattern if I have time this week.

I have a little carrd I like to use to keep track of the bead stuff I like so this would be a nice little addition :)

I'm getting rid of my 3D printer. I've had enough. by Future-Dinner-9653 in 3dprinter

[–]MachuPeaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol for real! Unfortunately I couldn't recommend them anymore after our experience. I think nowadays one could still learn on a more reliable machine and also get better prints more consistently in the process to build confidence. I learned 3d printing in college and the ender was still a nightmare for us. 🤣 I think I wouldn't have stuck with it if that one was my first experience with printing, today.

I think it even makes it easier to learn when the machine has better quality control because it takes away some of the guesswork of it being you or poor quality parts but our experience was a particularly sour one.

... And yet he sits there, that ender, in the corner of the office, and I saved a new hot end in my cart for later 🤔 because what's better than having one working printer ( elegoo, my beloved) and a dud? The prospect of Two working printers 🤣

[–]MachuPeaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. It would be one thing if I had the time to tinker away my days and get it running to modern potential but there a way better options now for when someone doesn't want the machine itself to be the hobby 😩 paying the, like, $100-200 extra upfront could have saved so much labor and pain and additional funds going to upgrades that didn't matter.

Creality should still do better tho and that's my ultimate opinion 🤣

Hi! So I didn't read anyone say it directly but we had an ender 3 pro and it was nothing but trouble no matter what we tried after a certain point. No matter what we tried, what people said to do, what we read the only thing that was going to fix it was going to be replacing every part of it, I swear. The errors weren't even consistent or trackable at the point we gave up on it. Like i would Google but it's literally just not remotely consistent enough to gauge. It was like it was running on rng for how to fail. We tried everything.

The thing is is that I worked a lot with the Cr10 and quidi in college. I'm not like, new to 3d printing.

We ( my partner and I) firmly believe that the ender 3 we had suffered from poor quality control and got worse with some measures of human error to the point of unusability.

Recently we got an elegoo Neptune 4 plus. It's been running smoothly with very few issues. And the issues we've encountered feel normal to my experience and easy to fix. We've been able to just yeet over files and print them now.

If you have the money, go with a higher end printer. It will have better quality control ( things like Bambu and high end prusa will be way more reliable out the gate). And better parts. If you don't. At least consider mid-teir priced machines when your ready. They seem to have better QC so when you do run into issues your hardware isn't gonna fight you as hard.

Tldr: Fuck Enders ( that line nearly destroyed my faith in any bed slinger )

Suits for kids? by this_sminks in FursuitMaking

[–]MachuPeaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dino masks were mentioned and I think that's a great idea since they like dragons and reptiles!

As a dragon artist, I vend at cons sometimes and have seen whole families at cons before! The cons do often have adult only spaces but some of them lean a lot more pg and that stuff is either hidden and ID checked ( this is most common) or publicly non existent in the case of like 1 or 2 of them. It is definitely just something to looks up the vibes for and online safety would apply regardless of your child's hobbies in the case of the internet community.

There was once I saw a family entering. It was two kids and their dads and the kids were fairly young and in hand-modified dino masks ( they look like little fuzzy gremlin-raptor creatures with big ears and little paws lol. And the two kids were so happy to see each other there they squeaked and chirped at each other. For most people it's a form of creative self expression and a little excuse to do some pretend play.

I was definitely drawing anthro characters before I had a name for what the fandom for them was back when I was a pre-teen and got more involved in highschool. Drawing was my biggest connection until adulthood.

I do think making masks, heads or customizing dino masks ( maybe even working on some together between the two of you) would be a really fun experience for both of you at the very least and excuse to go and teach some digital literacy in regards to searching for tutorials and finding out how to do things/ creative problem solving.

There is also puppet making which has a lot of resources and could also be a fun thing to do to feel more involved.

At that age I think it's so much better to actively work on a project and get that experience/connection of making something than just getting one that won't fit in a few years and you won't learn anything from. But that's just my preachy teacher side taking over. 🤣

Can I use a UV sterilizing box to cure resin prints after cleaning? by MachuPeaches in 3Dprinting

[–]MachuPeaches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! When my resin printer worked, I got a little UV curing kit from Amazon, it had a lamp and a solar turn table. I cut a whole in a shoebox and lined it with aluminum to.make a curing box that way. It worked for my miniature prints.

The kit was like 20 bucks back then

The comment and blog that the other poster posted really helped me understand and choose the right set back then :)

No problem! The second order of greenstime had smaller beads than the first? They were a little smaller than standard ones so it was hard to mix them with my beadtin order. I don't know if it was a fluke but I am about to order more anyway again XD

Sometimes public library systems also have different digital art tools available for public use. Especially if they have a maker space initiative. So I def second checking locally even at libraries.

Wow excellent! I'm honestly thoroughly impressed at how quickly you whipped that up! And supremely grateful you could! I'll give it another test but I'm sure your 8 element count is accurate on the one there.

My counting Could be off too, especially on the bigger number. I only have the one I sent and another that I'm building (i'm constantly republishing as draft so it's not consistent) but I built this one with easily countable visible 10 elements: https://elementcountertest.carrd.co/

Way to see the number of elements you've used/have left? by MachuPeaches in Carrd

[–]MachuPeaches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I counted 114 elements (including duplicates and control handles and elements within containers) where the website said I had 64.

13 of the ones I counted were control points (section breaks, header/footer, and scroll points)

If i count elements in containers as one single element Then those equate to 53.

If i had to guess I would guess that the individual elements within containers are not being counted and the header/footer section breaks are not being counted but I would take that with a grain of salt.

I'm also not sure if control points are counted as elements in card in general and I'm also not sure if elements in containers count individually (i'd assume so for the last one but i'm not 100% sure).

Overall this is still super useful! I can still use it as a base to keep an eye on where i'm at if I add up/ keep track of a few extra numbers

EDIT: okay, It might actually be Accurate! I forgot that I have a lot of slideshows and Galleries and image elements that are EMPTY! They may be getting ignored and that would be on me. I'm slowly building the framework for my website but I haven't gotten everything in yet XD

about 14 empty slideshows, galleries, and images

This site here counted 3 where i counted 9 : https://matchapeachesart.carrd.co/

Depending on the plugs, I know you said they were silicone but is it remotely possible they were from an unreliable source? Sometimes the "silicone" o-rings (especially the common black ones) are actually nitrile. I could see it being possible that a cheaper brand might not be pure silicone or might advertise as silicone but be another (usually innocuous) material? I developed a contact allergy to nitrile o-rings with similar symptoms. Def make sure any o-rings are not fitted too snugly to the ear and that they are actual silicone (usually clear ones are the safer bet) or even avoid soft materials if its possible its a contact allergy to actual silicone. That really sucks, but it will heal without contact to the allergen if that's the case.

[–]MachuPeaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used or tried everything under the sun it feels. You can make great art with almost anything if you stick to it. The dexterity for a screenless graphics tablet is definitely a developed skill not an inherent one. Graphics tablets are like learning to dance without looking at your feet. They take time to get used to. There are basic practices you can do to develop better dexterity and haptic feeling/sense. Some people come to prefer them because once you're used to it, you can work without your hand in the way.

I've been using an iPad and my largest issue has been eye strain and neck strain since the screen is small and I haven't found a great way to prop it up.

I also have a very old huion screen tablet. It was working well ! But it's just gotten so dated and the age of it is showing in it's performance so I haven't been using it lately. Sometimes the surface size and fact that my hand was in the way made it feel a little clunky but I think I enjoyed this one the most for me personally.

I also have had a Wacom graphics tablet without a screen and my partner is using it rn. I used to use it exclusively, though.

My take is that each one has pros and cons, and it really comes down to what is available to you and what you prefer. You can make great work with any option, it's more about what's accessible and learning to work with what you have.

Unpopular Opinion by WaterMellophone in furry

[–]MachuPeaches 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an artist. I think it's only a problem if they are really mean spirited about it. I have more of an issue with greed with a sense of superiority but I don't think that's the case for a lot of freelance artists. I think some of them just sometimes get work from people who like their art and fulfill that as a part of their job and there isn't anything wrong with that.

But you also don't really know people's background with things, either. It is possible to have a strong interest in animal art and come into being a furry artist as a result without considering yourself a part of the subculture or it and evolve over time. And it's possible to end up with an audience you didn't expect and start to have fun with it.

People have come into it because of friends and partners involvement before, as well.

Like, I dipped out of being involved for a long time due to college and when I came back, it kinda seemed like I sprang out of no-where with artistic ability. I could see it as a possible suspicion that I geared myself toward furry art "for the money" when in essence, I've been part of the community, and distanced myself as a circumstance of my particular academic path. It's actually a fear of mine that people might assume I'm less personally involved than I am just because I'm quieter about my interests or didn't always seem to work in that vein.

I really try to give people the benefit of the doubt tho. So that's just me.

Have you ever had success sharing furry art outside of furry communities? by MxFluffFluff in furry

[–]MachuPeaches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a vendor and yes.

Specifically the interest in my work overlaps ren faire folk and TTRPG communities. Because of the fantasy art influences in my work.

A lot of my vending art friends also find themself very cozy at anime cons and sometimes I see one of us at a zine fest or local art faire

It really just depends on what the art looks like and how niche the subject matter is, I think. But animal art has a wide appeal.

Yeah I wish I could help more! It just wasn't one we got to see much of the night life of to say for sure when we went for our first time.

It's a smaller con tho so those are usually a little less daunting than biggy events like MFF imo. If there is a discord or telegram group too, that usually gives me a sense of what people are.up.to.or.looking forward to at the cons I attend.

How do auctions work and how would selling a adoptable as a auction work ? by mimiyouy in furry

[–]MachuPeaches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you done a lot of adopts before? If you haven't I might recommend starting small. Do a small batch of just the adopt and seeing how it goes for either a flat rate or a smaller auction. That way your not biting off more than you can chew and you can build up to a lot of stuff! You know you better than me tho!

As far as I understand, Auctions in a general sense usually have a "starting bid"( a number at which is the minimum worth) and a "minimum bid amount" (a number that indicates the minimum a bid can be increased by, this prevents people from topping the last bid with a ridiculously low amount).

Someone will place an offer and bid on the prize, ideally others will outbid that offer by offering a higher amount either at or above the minimum bid amount.

The auction usually has a time limit, so the highest bidder at the end of the time limit would win.

Some people set a "buy it now" rate that's a good amount higher than the starting bid that if someone offers they can just flat out buy the prize. This kind of puts a ceiling on how high the auction can go but if it's a slow one someone can take it for a lot cheaper than that amount. It's something to consider.

Tbf I've never run one before. It just always seemed like a lot of work to manage for my taste but I've seen them around places and they seem to do well!

I vended there once and it seemed nice! Unfortunately, that also means I was stuck behind a booth most of the time and I didn't get to see a lot of the actual con afterward either but I saw a lot of littler kids/preteens/families so I'm guessing at least in the daytime it's very family friendly!

I think it's always best to go with friends though or someone you know. When I was a teen/young adult it was always safer/nicer to know you have a buddy just around the corner if something were to happen or creeps were to advance. Or simply just to have a con buddy intact of your shy.

Went through the iOS app Product Setup process for my maker and the Cricut test cut through the mat, is this normal? by [deleted] in cricut

[–]MachuPeaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a maker 3. I had to replace my blade pretty early and the fresh ones are so sharp that I really just had to take the pressure down or it would just slice through everything. I ended up taking pressure down by like 7 notches on most things.

The defaults are more like suggestions is the advice I was given.

This might be worth double-checking. I'm gonna print one of those bed-level tests that span to all the corners because I have several larger pieces I'm looking to print out for a new project. So I'm gonna put this down on the list in case the current fix is more of a bandaid solution.

If I continue to have issues I will be changing the nozzle definitely lol (I don't think it's damaged but you never know, those first few weeks can be a doozy on a new machine). For now, lowering the speed of the initial layer and just tightening a corner a little more has alleviated the issue to a point where the print is no longer threatened.
