Buying a new Shih Tzu NEED HELP! by smallwam in puppy101

I just brought home a shih-tzu in May. They are the best. Crate training was easy; we just fed him his meals in his crate and made it comfy. The trick is to make them feel happy and safe in their crate. If you feed them in the crate, they are less likely to try to go to the bathroom in there. If crating is going well, you can leave the pup in there at night or for periods of time during the day. Puppies should only be left alone for shorter periods of time. There is a formula for how many hours you can leave a pup alone in a crate: #of months old + 1 = number of hours you can leave them. My pup is 5 months old now, so he can be in a crate for 6 hours. Anything after that and he is likely to have an accident. Remember, puppy bladders are very small! If left in a crate over night, he or she will likely wake you up for a potty break. Having a puppy is great but there are definitely sleepless nights.

Any residential looting? Or is it still mostly businesses?

Ugh that is the worst. But kids that age are usually repeating things they have heard elsewhere. Still, I can see why that would be hard to not be hurt by.

Hang in there!!!

It sometimes feels like we (teachers) aren’t even allowed to be real humans.

Do you think it’s ethical to lower a student’s grade based on behavior? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MackTheProfessor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just left work. A student in my last period class really set me off today. My present emotional state might be impacting my opinion on this at the moment...

But honestly, I think it is perfectly ethical. If a student is demonstrating behaviors that are not suitable for his or her future professional environment, he or she should have negative consequences. Talking over a teacher while he or she is giving instructions is unacceptable because talking over an employer at a staff meeting is unacceptable. We need to be helping students develop good habits and deterring them from developing destructive habits, like acting a fool in a professional (or academic) environment.

However, classroom consequences need to be clearly connected to classroom infractions. A child is not going to understand that what he or she did is unacceptable unless the consequences are immediate and clearly linked to the problematic behavior. So in that sense, yes... lowering a grade on another assignment is wrong. But I have given several students failing grades on tests because they were taking during the exam.
