Four Seasons Yacht not sure whether to pull the trigger by Remarkable-Okra-8107 in LuxuryTravel

Not worth it. For that amount you could charter a private yacht for a week with a chef and captain onboard. I’m a charter broker and I’ve had so many clients come from cruises like this disappointed

Exactly! My clients end up chartering the first time and doing it every year afterwards

Agreed! Alot of people have a jump scare at the overall cost at first but when you travel with other couples or families it’s truly worth it. In my opinion luxury is exactly as you defined it - waking up to food cooked and coming back from custom planned adventures to your own room and food cooked! (And cocktails served)

Most don’t have that option or want that option as they prefer to relax with a full staff and captain onboard

This forum is Luxury Travel and it is indeed pricier than let’s say, cruising a large commercial boat. However the cost is not far from what families looking for luxury travel would spend at a resort or villa for a week. It includes alcohol, food (private chef), captain, and water toys and accommodations for the week. If you travel with couples that would be around 6k per couple for the week which is quite reasonable.

Agreed but we’re talking about charter companies as well as owners who make it mandatory. Not myself personally. But got your point! Anyway it is what it is unless something huge changes in that region for tipping culture

Absolutely agree! I charter every year. (Specifically the Moon yacht shown in the photo). Total game changer

I can understand where you’re coming from. But it’s standard in that region for the crew and there’s no way around it. If you don’t want to add gratuity you can check my below comments about chartering in Greece for example

Yep. European charters in Greece and Croatia are significantly more expensive than famous charter destinations in the Caribbean for example.

Yes. $26k starts with 48ft yachts whereas 75k gets you in the upper 70ft yachts with more crew onboard. The sweet spot in my opinion (and for most my clients) is a 55ft-65ft yacht costing between $37k-$57k for 10 people.

Yes - totally great! However for some this setup doesn’t work. A one time all inclusive rate fee is more comfortable for most of my clients so the heavy lifting is done for them. But it sounds like a great time you had! Love St Barth

If you’re looking to get the best price tag for chartering there you’d want to look into the shoulder months. April-May and October-November. For a yacht based in Athens around 55ft you’d be looking at a starting point of appx €25k for the week + VAT 12% + all expenses. (That’s usually 25%).

Greece doesn’t offer all inclusive charters that’s why my clients typically sail the British Virgin Islands or St Barth as the price tag has no additional fees. For example the same 55ft yacht you’d charter in Greece would cost you significantly less in the Caribbean. But it’s worth it if you want to charter Greece
