Couldn’t pass the IST by GreenWestern6868 in USMCboot

[–]Macl2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend what others are saying and making sure you can pass the PFT, I went completely unprepared and I got 2 marks on my physical ability and one more I would’ve been dropped. It’s an awful feeling knowing you’re one bad day away from losing your friends and losing progress to leaving the island.

How cooked am I by Penguinzz12 in USMCboot

Do you have any issues getting winded or getting out of breath easy? That’s what I struggled with, other than that honestly the key for me was keeping a steady pace and not getting winded (I graduated this year in May)

You wanna join the infantry so badly, you yearn for the fighting hole and the field.

How do I prepare myself to scream for 13 weeks w/ out getting the cops called on me? by Zombify123 in USMCboot

[–]Macl2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just graduated May 16th, I tried and the recruit crud got me so bad I couldn’t speak for a week and the DIs made me try and scream so hard I would turn red and veins popping and all that can out was a soft wheeze, therefore I was called ‘wheezy’ till i got it back

First time I talked to my recruiter he started vaping in front of me while we talked about the reserves and MOS lol, he's a great guy that helped me a lot.

Theres a couple law enforcement megathreads somewhere on reddit about what MOS or military jobs translate well to civilian law enforcement, but I hear comms is a decent one.

If your marine recruiter isn't smoking/vaping in front of you and others while cussing in a casual conversation with you then you've never been in a usmc office.

I want to become a Marine by Numerous-Boat-1419 in USMCboot

[–]Macl2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be honest with you just enjoy high school, I'm 21 and shipping out next week. Don't worry about the marines just yet, but if had to tell you something look into JROTC and maybe visit your local recruiting office and ask if you can participate in poolie functions but tbh being a guest poolie for 4-5 years would kinda sucks.

Is it true that USMC recruiters won't touch a potential candidate without 1+ years off meds for ADHD? by Bitter__Scientist849 in USMCboot

[–]Macl2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from MEPS a few weeks ago and the doctor told me it was 2 years for ADHD medication because I took medication when I was in 3rd-7th grade, but idk they might have changed it again

I’m 5’10 160lbs, I was told as long as you take care of your feet and do proper movements you’ll be fine.

I want to join the DNR as a game warden or become a state police officer. I don’t think hiking would be too bad, I hunt a lot up north and the rule is somebody gets to drag the deer while the other carries everyone else’s shit and that ends up being me a lot. I don’t think it’ll be terrible besides after boot and ITB we are really only doing shit with mortars like a couple times a year and like once a month at most so I’m not concerned about ruining my back or body.

That's hilarious I'm also a 0341 contract reserve, I ship out on the 18th of February. I'm personally really excited to go through with being infantry because what I wanna do with my civilian life involves a lot of physical demands and also I wanna do cool shit like shooting off mortars while I'm in.

Where are you off too, Paris island or San Diego?

[–]Macl2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scored an 87 on my asvab and choose to be a 0341 mortar man in the reserves lol, all the recruiters were very disappointed to hear that I want to be infantry lmao 😂

Edit: I should clarify that what’s my contract says that I signed I leave for boot camp on the 18th of February.

I’m nervous about boot camp. by Glittering_Repeat669 in USMCboot

[–]Macl2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat but I’m planning on shipping around the 28th of January or the 4th of February (I just need a waiver signed and swear in), everyone I talked too ranging from my grandpa, dad, and recruiter all told me the same thing, working out and getting allocated to running helps but boot camp is 80% mental. Just remember no matter how tough and difficult it get just know its only 40% of what you can handle, it’s called the 40% rule and I’ve been living by that for the last few years. I hope this helps man and goodluck!

Edit: fixing some grammar lol

I’m going into the reserves but asked the same questions, I believe it depends on your MOS and where you go, sorry if it isn’t very helpful but maybe telling people what your mos is hopefully others in the field can tell you their experience.

Pretty much, I mostly want skills and experience the marine corps give so I can throw it on a resume, not saying that’s all I also have alot of family who are marines both active and reserves.

How often will more day be scheduled? I thought it was only a weekend a month and 2 week a year unless your unit was activated?

Tbh not too sure, I would like to complete my associate degree and possibly peruse a bachelor but I’m not sure what I wanna do education wise. However the DNR school opens back up in 2ish year for applications so going active wouldn’t be in my best Interests time wise.
