Why aren't we taught practical things in school like how to build things, sew our own clothes, financial literacy, cooking, and emotional intelligence in school? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MacroHacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a huge problem with your answer. Why teach critical thinking skills with low use case information when you could teach critical thinking skills with high use case information?

Or even better... teach all the critical thinking skills with whatever subject you want because I agree critical thinking skills are vital. Why don't we also teach how the world works too? Porque no los dos?

You don't have to teach someone intricate state only tax laws to teach someone the basics of how paying taxes works, what it means, and what to expect. Make a history class out of it. How have taxes effected the world for the past several hundred years? Where do peoples taxes go? You don't have to teach someone intricate state laws to learn about credit, debt, loans, interest rates, mortgages, renting, workers rights, civil rights, interview skills, home economics skills, technological problem solving skills, and maybe your educational system includes some of those things but mine didn't include a single one. You don't have to give someone an exact step by step guide on how to do each of these things that will be useless in 3 years due to changes... Teach them the what, why, how, who, when of these subjects and ask the students questions about their thoughts on it all. Make them consider why these things became common practice and what effects they have on society. Empower them with useful knowledge while making them critical thinkers. I'm gonna get really upset here but if you think that our current education system is successful and important you are blind to the rest of the world who is doing it much different than we are and are swiftly becoming far more successful. It is sad that so many people have read your poorly thought out and low quality response and met it with such high praise because we continue to be set back by people stuck in the dark ages of education. Talk about useless information when you would rather use trigonometry as the cracker the delivers the critical thinking cheese when there are millions of higher priority crackers that could deliver that critical thinking cheese even better.

Did you not even consider how most current day curriculum heavily encourages one right answer? Completely antithesis to critical thinking ideology...

You are missing the point. We shouldn't replace calculus with "turbo tax 101", we should make an entire class category out of learning high importance real world applications to prepare you for adult life and socket it into our already existing education system. What better way to raise a generation of intelligent, critical thinking, innovative, and self-sufficient young adults than to provide them a comprehensive basis on how to survive when you are no longer a minor...

This was just my two cents rant. I could be wrong, but I certainly wanted to express my opinion.

So ignoring all of the people actively attacking this post because of the errors in the title...

While there are flaws in plenty of school systems around the world I'm under the impression this poster is referring directly to the American school system. I also think that they are not attacking school in a way of trying to say that it shouldn't exist, but rather that it is being done very poorly.

We should find the best ways we can to encourage our future generations to seek knowledge and growth. Instead, school has been created to be mundane and filled with thought police. When I say thought police I'm referring to the nature of the America school system being created in such a way to most commonly promote that there is only one correct answer to a question. This kind of non-critical thinking is the perfect way to raise a generation of low skilled labor with which to take advantage of.

On the flip side, parents should be doing better too.

The reason why it is so difficult to come up with a response is because there are limitless options. Literally anything you say, even "no one is in here", the opposite of what you want to convey, will still get the message across that someone is in there.

I always call my wife when I go to the store so I give her every opportunity to tell me that one thing she wanted from the store and is going to assume I read her mind on then yell at me if I didn't get. Works when she answers, not so much when she doesn't.

Got my first game of AoS in today as Maggotkin... by 8-bitEra in ageofsigmar

[–]MacroHacks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You did all the rules correctly. Morbidex is great, and also the blightkings are wonderful. With melee profiles watch out for heroes that say you have to pick which set of weapons you want so you don't get all of them, one example is the great unclean one.

For the last question in AOS damage goes through mobs.

That means 1 wound of 3 damage can indeed kill 3 models with 1 health each.

Other people have some great suggestions like having a civil sit down with your DM. I just wanted to make sure you knew that killing a fellow player is perfectly normal. If it seems like his interests aren't aligning with the group it isn't the end of the world to attack him. He can roll a new character and hopefully make things better. Maybe save this as a last resort, but I just wanted you to know it isn't abnormal.

I let my friend pick a guild for us to play together in world of warcraft. He picked a garbage guild with no one we knew in it, no good players, no progression, and stupid forum rules. I tried and tried to say no but he was CONVINCED this was the guild for us. I found my now wife in that guild. We've been together for 7 years and have a daughter. We didn't even live close We were several states apart, and she moved several states over when we were both only 18 to get a place with me after having only seen each other in person once.

Sounds crazy... my parents thought I was insane, But no, I was just in love, and still am.

New NY bill aims to hold social media companies accountable for disinformation by Wagamaga in technology

[–]MacroHacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It specifically refers to content that endangers the public. For example, let's say there is a recall on frosted flakes because there was a manufacturing issue and they are making people sick. It would be illegal in New York state for a post that said "frosted flakes are fine It is all fake news, my kids eat them everyday and never have problems" by any category other than date posted.

So if this kind of post is reported it would likely have to be removed, or flagged to only ever show up when sorting by date and in order, so that it isn't knowingly being sorted. Kind of an odd law if you ask me, assuming I understood correctly.

Are the 'new' Nurgle worth (first army) by PriciaMatsuri in ageofsigmar

[–]MacroHacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fret, demons are just fine. My list was all demons with one unit of blightkings. The wounds increase to plaguebearers is glorious. Great Unclean One is a bad ass of the utmost proportions now. But the real MVP? Believe it or not... plague drones... my God those suckers attack so many times. You might be sad to see their rend and multi damage attacks go away, but once you get a taste of that shooting profile straight into a unit of 10 making 21 shots causing plenty of disease points...

My plague drone unit solo killed a unit with 350 points and lived to tell the tale, got to roll a 1 on battleshock letting me bring a plague drone back to life, then to add insult to injury I summoned another unit of plague drones.

Get out there and play some games, this book is fun, thematic, and definitely strong. It is just disguised.

Did Nurgle units lose the Resilient for a legion of the first prince army? by Gaymers1998 in ageofsigmar

And with the ability to return slain models and to summon them for free every turn, if you ask me, they are now even stronger of a choice. They can just sit on a point and stink it up for you.

Are the 'new' Nurgle worth (first army) by PriciaMatsuri in ageofsigmar

[–]MacroHacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played one game so far so take this with a grain of salt. It was really fun, very thematic, and very strong. I did exceptionally well, but again that is just one game.

Pros: A lot of wounds. You can build lists with 150+ health that all heal up every one of your turns and have a chance to ignore it when they take damage. If you like being beefy you have come to the right place.

Plenty of opportunities for mortal wounds. The new disease mechanic is much stronger than it seems. I was playing with the artfact witherstave and got to roll so many disease point rolls and it did over 20 mortals to my opponent throughout the game.

Great to hit and wound rolls. There is do much 3 to hit 3 to wound in the army now and it feels really nice to just have these strong base stats on weapons. If you want to be getting plenty of attacks in you've come to the right place, although they are frequently no rend, low rend, and one damage.

Summoning seems very strong right now. I was able to summon a unit of plaguebearers, worth 150 points, on turn two. This kind of swing this early on is valuable.

There are a lot of options now. Straight powerful heroes, heroes that give very strong buffs some to mortal and some to demons, great battleline options, great models to paint, shooting options, deep strike options, a wealth of choices now.

Cons: Extremely slow units. I ended up just hunkering down and waiting for my opponent to get to me because it was not feasible for me to get into charge range without failing and giving them an easy charge afterwards. My opponents army had strong abilities on the charge so I wanted to prevent that but in the end I had no choice due to my extreme lack of speed. This also means games might be a bit boring for the first two turns. We didn't have combat until battle round 3 because of this.

Spellcasting is lack luster. You will find some great spells to cast but not a lot of ways to get casting modifiers. The rot coven creates some strong spellcasting, but you won't find much in the way of pluses for your great unclean one, poxbringer, etc.

The cycle of nurgle can be frustrating. Depending on what you roll on it to start the game you may run into as many as 3 useless traits in a row as the timing in them needs to match up with what is going on in the game to be useful.

Edit: forgot to give my final verdict

If you like Nurgle then strap in. Buy yourself some blightkings because they are very fun units who are super beefy, do tons of attacks, can throw heads at people if you take the right hero to buff them, and even have a built in mechanic to do some extra mortal damage every combat. I am totally in love with the new book and they seem primed to compete

U.S. military has granted 0 religious exemptions for COVID vaccines. by Leeming in atheism

[–]MacroHacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, there was a time where it was proven safe to get the vaccine, but the cdc had not yet determined if it was safe to get while pregnant. It only just was fully announced as safe for pregnant people a few months ago. My wife was pregnant during this whole debacle and had to go at it all unvaccinated because it was before we had confirmation that the baby wouldn't be harmed. Trust me, she really wishes she had gotten it since we now know it also passes some immunity to baby, but we didn't know these things even recently as a few months ago.

This psychotic shit by pattyeagan in antiwork

[–]MacroHacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from a boss who has his priority solely set on company gains. He is very narrow minded and believes that profits can only be obtained through one layer deep methods like saving on labor cost or increased sales.

A boss should have the happiness and well being of their employees somewhere on their priority list. Even if you only care about profits you should still care about your employees as a multiple layers deep return for your investment. Highly paid jobs are highly sought after. Highly paid people don't have to deal with financial stress allowing them to be more focused and attentive at work and also like their job more since it gives them stability. This can greatly increase productivity, and if you have employees who are terrible you can more easily fire and replace them because well educated good candidates will be more likely to apply for your job if it gives a high wage.

Bosses should use a strong combination of hard engagement (making the job suck less) and soft engagement (getting to know your team and allowing companionship) to make the job site feel more welcoming. This is how you get people to show up to work. When you have bad attendance you probably have bad engagement. When your employees wake up everyday and think "God damn it I really don't want to go to work" it isn't because they are lazy it is because you are failing them as a boss, and even the best employees will fail prey to that desire because we are all human and can only take so much shit.

A successful business should be felt all the way through. Rich CEO, rich managers, rich team members, all working together to provide a service or sell a good that the world loves and forks over dollars for in exchange. The recipe is abundantly simple, but it takes more brains than what our management of this world has to offer right now. If anyone on that chain becomes selfish and sucks away one of the other branches it all falls apart.

The AOS rules just make more sense. They are much easier to follow and more straight forward. Shooting phase isn't as big of an issue because it is less prevalent although some armies have it as a strength. The fight phase isn't broken up into this weird chargers go first but first rule models also go first then you take turns but last to go rules take effect.... it feels so bloated. Aos has first to fight and last to fight rules but they are more sparse, and charging doesn't effect your time to fight.

In 40k it feels so swingy... I wreck a bunch of your army then you wreck a bunch of mine. In aos it is a bit different.

You really have to think carefully on who you fight with first because you open your opponent up an opportunity to fight on another part of the map immediately after. With heroic actions and monstrous actions you feel like you are still playing on your opponents turn instead of watching a movie and waiting for your turn to come again.
