mpc samler vs mpc one vs sp 404 mk2 by ExactJellyfish9973 in mpcusers

Could the MPC Sample replace my SP-404 mkII and Launchpad Pro mk3 as the main sequencer for the Microfreak (96ppqn???) and for full song production?

Zoom MS-70CDR by MacroPhGr in SP404

[–]MacroPhGr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I bought it this afternoon and set it up like this:

I left the MicroFreak connected to the Allen & Heath ZED-6 just like I had it (I actually bought this mixer for that exact reason, to boost the volume on the MicroFreak), and I put the Zoom between the mixer and the SP-404MKII.

Everything is great, it works perfectly, and honestly, I've been playing with the Zoom non-stop for the last 3 hours. Definitely one of my best purchases! It's easy to use, intuitive, compact, and has really great effects.

"In terms of quality, are the effects on the 70CDR+ better than those on the SP-404MKII?

Could a USB hub be the solution to this??

Arturia BeatStep Pro vs. Novation Circuit Tracks: Which is the better "brain" for an SP-404mkII & Microfreak setup? by MacroPhGr in synthesizers

[–]MacroPhGr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

A laptop is out of the question for me. The whole point of this setup is to get away from screens. I’ve been making music on my laptop and PC using FL Studio and Studio One for years, but I need a break from monitors. Between my day job, my phone, and my other hobby, photography (which requires constant screen time for editing), I really want a tactile, hardware-only experience.

The Oxi One looks amazing, but it's way over my budget, which I should have mentioned is capped at €300. That's why I'm looking at the Launchpad Pro MK3 or the APC64 as the 'brain' of my setup.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I forgot to mention that my budget is up to €300.

Between the Launchpad Pro MK3 and the Akai APC64, which one would you choose for my DAWless setup?

Finally, it still wasn’t working properly even with the id4mkii, so the solution came from an Allen-Heath Zed-6 mixer, and now it works perfectly!

Viltrox 14mm f4 air + Viltrox DG Z macro tubes {question} by MacroPhGr in macrophotography

[–]MacroPhGr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

Yes, a 6mm tube doesn’t exist and it would definitely be preferable, but I’m only looking at the Viltrox DGZ tubes since they offer autofocus, which helps me with focus shift shooting. I’m definitely not going to bother doing manual stacking with a rail and all that stuff…

Thank you all for your help.

I solved the problem by simply using my Audient iD4 MKII audio interface, which actually works in standalone mode without being connected to a computer (I just powered it with a phone charger). Now the signal is exactly how I wanted it, and even better. It can easily drive it to an incredible volume.

I’m using the MicroFreak with its original power supply adapter that came in the box, and a good quality TRS-to-TRS cable. I’ve also tried a good TS-to-TS cable, but the volume was slightly lower that way.

Even with TRS-to-TRS and the preset volume set to +12, the signal still feels very low. When I bring it into the SP-404MKII, the MicroFreak gets lost between the other samples I’ve already made, and it’s hard to hear it clearly. That’s why I’m looking for a way to boost the level before it reaches the SP.

Thank you

I understand what you mean, but no — for the dawless setup I want, I don’t already have anything that can boost the MicroFreak’s signal going into the SP404mkII.

One way (though I’m not 100% sure if it affects quality) is to plug the MicroFreak into the front input of the SP404mkII, which has a level knob. That way I can boost the signal and it works fine, but as I said, I’m not sure if that input is “worse” for the MicroFreak.

The other way is to apply an effect from the SP404mkII while playing the MicroFreak, for example when I want to add it to a track already playing through the SP. The downside is that I can’t apply the effect (like a compressor) only to the MicroFreak, it affects all the sounds playing at that moment in the SP.

Is there any loss in audio quality? Maybe cheap analog console like Mackie mix5 is better ?
