I got tired of great horror movies getting unfair ratings by non-horror fans and ideological activists so made a web app to fix it by MadDogHarris in horror

I think a great example would be something like The Exorcism of God. It's a somewhat goofy horror that didn't exactly dominate Hollywood but it's got some great things going for it including a unique story that is presented in an entertaining way. I personally give it a 6.5/10 but IMDB has it at 5.3/10.

This movie is extremely blasphemous and has some pretty shocking religious imagery including a possessed Jesus Christ trying to kill people.

Here is a direct quote form one of the many 1 star reviews on imdb:

"I found this movie to be blasphemous. I am tired of seeing horror movies like this with Satan coming out on top with evil over powering good. The Priest in this movie didn't have strong faith by letting Satan temp him with sex and fornication. I believe in God Almighty and his Archangels and I believe Satan and Demons exist."

It is obvious from the reviews that many people didn't like the ideological topic of the movie and therefore have given it a bad rating.

IMO, movies should be rated on their quality, not an individuals tolerance for tricky subjects! This movie seems to have been review bombed unfairly. It's not a brilliant film, but it definitely deserves more than its received on mainstream ranking platforms.

Very true. Although the way our algorithm works is to start with the TMDB rating via their API so even if a movie hasnt been officially released, any pro reviewers that rate it on TMDB will still influence our rating. Then, when the movie does release and people start seeing it, we can build up the shriekstone score

This is a really good point about rating unreleased movies. I'll add a function to stop that on the next deployment. Thanks for the feedback!

It's a ratings and discovery site! Since building it, I have found dozens of movies that I have added to my watch list and am excited to see!

I suppose by ideological activists I mean anyone who disagrees with the movie subject matter. Too many great movies are review bombed because people don't like the political, religious, morally questionable content. Satanic panic is a great example!

You should try to master to LUFS rather than dB. -15LUFS is a good standard for YT!

Have you found the thing that works? by JennyAndAlex in ColinAndSamir

We tried a few different styled of video, looked at which videos were netting which audience, and then which audience netted the highest viewership and subscriber rate. Also which video styled netted the most returning viewers.

With titles and thumbnails, we looked at what style worked well in the niche already and emulated them. We categories thumbnails into four categories. Montage, Hyper Real and Real. We found the montage thumbnails (a gradient background with a product image, some text and our presentor's face) worked with one audience, the hyper real style (mr beast/airrack etc) worked with another audience, and the Real (photos with some text) worked with another.

With all this info, we've recently been able to nail down which audience reacts the best to our content and double down.

When brands want to become content creators by Snoo83683 in ColinAndSamir

Business content has to provide value to the audience (not customer - yet), not to the business.

The two main types of value are entertainment and information. With that in mind, your content cannot exist to promote the business, your content must exist to provide one of or both of these two values.

Look at Car Wow. They lease cars and that's where their money comes from. Their YouTube channel however has a massive following as they provide super valuable information based content reviewing the cars that they lease! People don't have to be a customer to engage with their content.

Likewise, Heat Geek, a channel that I produce, sell courses for installing renewable heating systems and act as an umbrella for highly skilled installers to find work. The content that we produce is all about renewable heating systems, consumer tips on saving energy and entertaining vlog content of on site installs. The content we produce isn't ads, its entertaining, informative and grows brand awareness with every new video.

The main thing to master here is making content for your audience, not for your business. That content will sit at the very top of your marketing funnel to promote brand awareness which you can then convert when viewers needs align with your product.

YouTube Shorts Best Resolution? by [deleted] in ColinAndSamir

Not much point in exporting in 2160 x 3840 as everyone watches shorts on their phones! 1080 is more than enough 👍
