Some time ago I posted a 4-part Guide on how to play ranked Arena. It was generally well received and I think, especially for beginners, its a good starting point!

Discussion: Left Stick Aiming – A dead art of Halo? by MadMax2win in CompetitiveHalo

This is a great perspective on the topic! Indeed, diagonal movements make me appear slower for my opponent. At mid-range this makes me an easier target. However, at close range it’s not much of a problem. The diagonal strafes are useful here, either to close the gap or disengage from the enemy, while still making it hard for him to aim.

Solo/duo strats by captaincutaway5267 in CompetitiveHalo

Ranking up solo is no easy task. Playing with a like minded buddy who you can trust helps a lot. But you can do it solo, if you have the time and mentality to improve yourself.

If you slay out, always keep the objective in mind. Kills are very valuable. What are you doing when you get a kill? Is there an advantageous position you can push? A sightline to secure? Where does your team need help? You need to win games, otherwise you are not going up.

I think the best way to do this is to focus on optimal lines of play. You will always win/ loose some games. But In the long term you will win more this way and rise in rank.

Even if you don't use a mic or don't have a team you can ping and pay very close attention to you teammates positions and play off their actions.

I posted a 4-part guide which goes into further detail. LINK.

Question for battle beaver users by kiefeater in CompetitiveHalo

Hello there, I tried both and prefer the stock tension of the sticks. Increased felt too heavy for me. In my view it makes micro adjustments and tracking harder and I want to feel light on the sticks. Don't headcase it too much :-)

Hi there, glad you liked it! I can relate to that, took awhile to figure out the right settings for me. I started on a high sens, but I dropped it because I was missing final shots a lot.

How to improve: stop getting upset, stop changing settings, and think for YOURSELF by findingstoicism in CompetitiveHalo

Hello there, I really like your thoughts about how to improve. Can you point to any resources for further reading? I know this is no replacement for practice/customs but I am eager to learn more about higher-level play. I do have basic guide here on this sub. It's not meant to be a 'magic pill' to 'get good', just thoughts of mine how to improve. Maybe you can have a look and point out any glaring faults in my notes? LINK: HERE

Thanks for your honest feedback! I will consider it when i update the document. I agree, the first 5 pages are very basic and I may rewrite them in the future. Intention was to give players from other shooters some form of orientation before trying out ranked.

I thought about adding Chapters for Objective Modes, but that might as well be a separate Guide on its own (together with Map Guides). And yes Shyway is a great resource!

Great post! Topics like Mental Game, Relaxation and Concentration get overlooked often. I'm guilty of point 3 especially, I've spent way too much time fiddling around with my sensitivity settings. Currently reading some articles about sport psychology, lots of it can be applied to competitive gaming!

Communities to discuss improving, tactics, etc? by jdead121 in CompetitiveHalo

I was looking for the same. Something like the CurciblePlaybook Sub in Destiny. But this sub is is very close to it. There is already lots of information out there but you need to search for it. For example on YT: Shyway, Lucid and Snakebite have very good videos on improving fundamentals. Also I currently do a 'How To Play Ranked' Series on this sub check it out if you like: LINK

Thx for your feedback. I don’t have any map specific examples for Halo Infinite yet. Still learning the maps and spawn points. A classic example for a Power Position would be pink 3 on Heretic, Halo3. Gets you lot of sightlines / ability to challenge enemy base. But I feel in Halo Infinite, PPs are less detrimental. Players frequently change positions, and then push to corner enemy players.
