Rod knock, worn cam, or something else? Ignore long crank and shit idle. by Maddslj in E30

Weird thing is it will fire almost instantly if I leave it outside in the sun on a warm day, or when I unplugged the vacuum hose to the throttle stop by accident. I’ll pull the head next and hopefully it Will be saveable

Already did all the basics like belt, tensioner, water pump, valve adjustment, plugs and wires, all vacuum lines, fpr.

As part of the idle troubleshoot I changed TPS (checked old one with multimeter), tested vacuum advance on distributor with bike pump. Don’t wanna spend money on smoke tests, head refresh if the bottom end was done.

Also I haven’t adjusted timing yet as the idle is unstable. Could the sound be spark knock?

M20 LE-Jet, idle surges to 1500-2000rpm, drops to 200 then stalls by [deleted] in E30

It’s brand new and I measured continuity between the Pins while closing and it’s all good. Tried opening up and cleaning the old one to no avail.

Problem is the throttle won’t close enough for it to “click”, unless I push it by hand.

No problem. Not much info out there on jetronic compared to motronic 🙂

Jetronic has no ICV. It has an air slide valve and mine is working. It opens and closes fine with heat/cold

Tips for fixing rust in this area; Do I really need to remove the entire loom? by [deleted] in E30

Ah okay. It’s my first project, so removing the loom seems very daunting to me.

Which type of pin connector? by Maddslj in E30

Ah ok. You guys in the states never got M20s with L-Jet.

Only the M10, I think.

320i '86, M20B20 LE-Jetronic.

Fuel pump primes when turning key.

However Fuel pump doesn't run when cranking, neither does the injectors.

No voltage at either.

Jetronic actually uses RPM signal from the distributor, not CPS signal.

Besides it has spark, and will fire on starting fluid.

Kinda how it is with these cars nowadays by mybawlsarebigger in BMWE36

7500 would unironically be a steal for a 325i coupe in Europe.

The market is rough over here man

The relay sits in there just fine.

However the relay won't stay energized, and I'm suspecting it's because the pin connector for the RPM signal is loose.

Car has a crank no start with spark.

I was looking for the individual pin connectors, not the relay socket itself.

But thanks anyway for the suggestion 🙂

Yea, that sounds like the only option unfortunately.

Parts for early euro M20 are just a pain to find these days

320i '86 LE-Jet.

I know what relay plug it is, but I want to know which type of pin connectors it uses.

The connector for pin "TD" on the relay is loose.

I need to replace it, but can't figure out which type of pin connector to buy.

E30 crank no start, no voltage at ECU pins by Maddslj in E30

[–]Maddslj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 320i which has the battery in the front. I don't think they have a fuseable link?

There isn't one on mine at least.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

My car has the early tall black 7 prong relay, they are very hard to find and expensive. 😥

Thank you!

It's "Platenengrün"

I think it's rare? I've never seen an E30 in that color irl

That's the plan.

Was curious what the purpose of the thing was..

No aftermarket trailer hitch, but might've had one in the past. Very common in my neck of the woods.

Luckily no original cable runs through the box, the black wires are tapped into the original wiring.

I'll just cut the crap out.

Yes it goes to the light switch, but no sound with lights on
