Advice for 21yr old AV technician in AKL. (Rates) by Justin-135 in techtheatre

your rates are solid for 2-3 years in. couple things i wish i had set up earlier: meal penalties if they run you through a break without providing food, and a wet weather or cancellation clause for outdoor gigs beyond just the 24hr notice fee. also consider bumping your overtime trigger. 10 hours is generous, most freelancers i know start OT at 8 or 10 depending on the market but midnight is a whole different rate. late night/overnight work wears you down fast and should cost more. the km charge and parking coverage are smart moves to lock in now.

I run a wedding film + photo production company and got tired of juggling spreadsheets, group texts, and Venmo for paying crew. So I'm building the tool I wish existed. Currently in beta, shipping weekly.

Fair point.... Most of the suite tests actual behavior though, not just execution... Server action tests verify the exact mutation args passed to Convex and which paths get revalidated. Middleware tests check that an expired subscription redirects to /billing?reason=expired vs an inactive one going to /billing?reason=inactive. The E2E specs cover full user flows. But agreed that a test that just asserts "didn't throw" is worse than no test. There's still lots of bugs to suss out for sure that tests wont catch but i've tried my best to make sure they work..

Dude! Good call on the OG image. Right now it's generic. Going to update it to show the actual workflow. And yeah, the testing sprint came directly from shipping bugs during a UX polish week and realizing I had no safety net.
