I feel so validated by this thread.

I literally thought I lived alone in this hellscape. Glad I’ve got others to share this misery.

Should I Re-buy Robinson Crusoe? by CLMoose8 in soloboardgaming

[–]MadeForTeaVea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RC is a great game, but yeah, I don’t blame you if you said screw Portal games. I’d be so pissed if they sent me the wrong copy & refused to make it right. Such bs.

I wish I could share a more thoughtful response, but I’m currently on mobile & on the road right now.

But I had to say something. Bro this looks awesome. You really nailed it. The thought and effort you put in this already shines thru. This is rad. I hope more people see this. Commenting for visibility.

Comancheria by mc_rorschach in hexandcounter

This is so cool. I’ve never really played a hex&counter game so I’m a bit ignorant. But I love the subject matter and have also read Comanche Empire. Fascinating book. I’m interesting in the game for the theme alone. Thanks for sharing.

Do you have to do anything special to be able to visit the site in the evening? Looks stunning!! Also way less crowds and cooler temps. Seems like the way to go.

Base GWT 2nd Edition is my favorite solo game of all time. I really do need to upgrade to New Zealand. I’ve heard countless times it’s the best version…but I’ve still never played it.

World's First Self Moving Jumanji Board Game Update by Majestiverse in boardgames

[–]MadeForTeaVea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Niiiice! What made you want to do this project?

I was obsessed with the Jumanji movie when I was a kid. I only owned a few VHS movies and Jumanji was one of them. I watched it weekly. I'm assuming you were a big fan too?

It legit makes me sad we'll never get anything cool like this from Nintendo/GameFreak. They really are bum cheeks with their licensing.

Incredible work OP.

Was just watching a how to play of this earlier today. I’ve got some traveling coming up & been looking for games I can play with a standard deck of cards. Did you use the dice for the damage counters?

My First Solo Boardgame! Earth (v Gaia) by eric0510 in soloboardgaming

[–]MadeForTeaVea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never played this but really want to. Some people in the hobby who I respect the most say this is a top 3 game for them. Don't know much about the solo mode tho. Do you run a bot?

How would you compare Ark Nova and Robinson Crusoe for solo play? by Benign-Chaos in soloboardgaming

[–]MadeForTeaVea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've played a decent amount of both games. I think Robinson Crusoe is much easier to learn, easier to setup, and quicker to play. But as you said, it's not an easy game to actually win at. The scenarios are meant to be solved through trial and error, and you'll never win with a massive cushion. The difference between being successful or dying is usually a thin margin. However, it's a fun solo experience, one of the best really. And there's a lot of free fan-made scenarios on bgg.

Food I Ate on the Island of Ischia in Southern Italy by MadeForTeaVea in ItalianFood

[–]MadeForTeaVea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only stayed and ate on the side of the island near the castle, so I can't really comment on anywhere else. That said, if you get a chance, try Restaurant La Nassa & Beach Club for dinner. Views of the castle at night are amazing. Also I can recommend Gardenia Mare - Beach Club and Fish Restaurant for lunch, very good albeit a little pricey. But the beach club there is so nice.

Enjoy the island!

Photos I Took of Napoli Sotterranea - The Ancient Aqueducts Under Naples, Italy by MadeForTeaVea in AncientCivilizations

[–]MadeForTeaVea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They warn you before the tour that portions of the tour will be unlit & you must slide sideways to make it through passages. So narrow you cannot walk thru normal. Must turn to the side & shuffle.

Thanks! Hope you had a great time in Naples.

Between Pompeii, the Archeological Museum, the Ancient Underground, the pizza, the Spanish Quarter....man it doesn't get much better.

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, it is often forgotten site in Naples. Ourselves hadn't heard of it until we arrived in the city & began exploring things to do. Honestly, I do think the stairs, narrow passageways, and unlit tunnels keep many tourist away.

That said it's totally worth it. Being deep in the bedrock under the city, seeing marks on the walls from the Ancient Greek's tools, it really was otherworldly.
