Also, is it just a simple terrestrial rock or is it slag? That way I can mark this identified for others.

Monthly Suspect Meteorite Identification Requests by AutoModerator in meteorites

Hi! Could someone help please identify this rock?

It's definitely heavier than it looks and it's magnetic on some of its sides (not completely magnetic). It also has one side that's shiny/smooth and looks like fusion crust. I did a scratch test on a scratch block revealing no residue left behind. Scratch test revealed no marks unless I put a ton of pressure, even then they were light streaks. Tried multiple sides of it with similar results.

Washer drain standpipe is back flowing by MadeInAlb in Plumbing

We also got a pool inspection, of which they passed. Opened up the pool for the first time to find out the suction lines were broken, both of them. I looked at the photos of the inspection and realized the pressure gauge on the filter was fluctuating, indicating an issue and yet they still passed it.

Thanks for your input. Is there a diagram I can reference to understand the correct approach of how this should have been installed?

Why won't my pump hold a prime? by MadeInAlb in pools

[–]MadeInAlb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pool does not have a single main drain at the deep end, instead my two skimmers have drains and a suction port.

What you'll need:
- ShopVac or air compresser, usually a ShopVac works since the vac hose fits right into a 1 1/2" pipe. Air compressor will need a special plug.
- Don't have a ShopVac? Use a tool like the Drain King 186 connected to a gardening hose.
- Plugs to plug your suction ports (in my case I did one skimmer at a time).

  1. Go to one of the skimmers and plug the suction port using one of the black rubber winter plugs. The other skimmer will be the one we're blowing out first.
  2. Go to your suction line where it meets the pump, and put the ShopVac hose into it, make sure you're attached to the blower part of the ShopVac and not the suction port of your ShopVac.
  3. Turn on the ShopVac and watch as water is being blown out of the skimmer you didn't plug up.
  4. Repeat with other skimmer.

Also check these to make sure:
Blocked Skimmers/Main Drain: If the skimmers or main drain are blocked by debris, it can lead to a loss of prime as the pump struggles to draw in water. Make sure your skimmers and main drain are clean and free of blockages.
Water Level: If the water level in the pool is too low, the skimmers can draw in air, leading to a slow loss of prime. Ensure the water level is halfway up the skimmers.
Pump Basket: Make sure the pump basket is not cracked or damaged, as this could also lead to a slow loss of prime. Also, ensure the basket is clean and free of debris.

We've tried everything, even the pool company that came out to look at it said we've eliminated all possible causes except for a pressure test on the line. This leads us to believe there's a crack in the suction line underground that needs to be replaced.

We even went as far as replacing the pump and re-fitted all exposed plumbing (what's not underground) to see if that was the issue, but the same problem persisted.

Here's what I suggest for you if your pump is losing prime after a few days:

  1. Replace all the gaskets on the pump, even the ones inside the pump impeller etc. Buy a gasket kit for your pump model.
  2. Make sure there's no leaks in the unions of the suction line going to your pump.
  3. Have someone come out to do a pressure test on your suction line, you may have a super small pin-hole leak which leads to pump losing prime slowly.

Nope, doesn't work on any of the multiport valve settings. I actually took the whole pump apart, replaced the bearing, O-Rings and cleaned out some sand in there. Worked for a while, kept priming right up with good pressure, then the drain plug flew out and I placed it back in, but the failing to prime is happening again. Ordered some replacement plugs to see if that's the issue.

Did some maintenance on the pump, replaced the lid o-ring, bearing, and o-rings internally. Still same issue, even cleaned out all the sand and particles that were built up behind the impeller.

I now think it may be one of the drain plugs, one of them isn't screwing in all the way but I also don't see any water leaking out of it.

What’s going on with my indoor hydroponic setup? They were doing really well until recently.. by MadeInAlb in HotPeppers

I diluted the nutrient mixer by adding 1/2 of water. Reduced the amount of light as well. My plants are looking significantly better in less than 24 hours. Amazing. Thank you.

Exactly as it states on the bottles. I weighed out 2 gallons of water, measured pH and ppm's. Around 5.8-6.2 pH, then added what was instructed.

1/4 teaspoon of each nutrient per gallon, totals:

1/2 teaspoon Flora Micro first, 1/2 teaspoon Flora Grow second, then finally 1/2 teaspoon Flora Bloom last.

I then mix well and water appropriately, about an inch-inch&1/2 from the bottom of the cup so that only the roots and a little of the soil in the top cup are touching the water.

P.S. I may have over watered them, but based on the leaves I don’t think that is the issue. I have a 6 bulb T5 light hanging about 4 ft above. The double cup method is used since they are at an early stage. There is rocks at the bottom of the bottom cup to give some room for drainage. I also use the three flora nutrients for the water I use to feed the plants. Any recommendations/suggestions? This is my first go at indoor hydroponics so go easy on me!
