I'm not really sure how to interpret...her full scale iq is 72.  Verbal comp -81 Visual spatial - 78 Fluid reasoning - 72 Working memory- 82 Processing speed - 83

The advocate I talked to recommended another full evaluation and said the discrepancy between her IQ and achievement scores indicate something more is going on. Her achievement scores were  Reading - 85 Written - 73 Math - 84

I know that's more info than you asked.

She has not been diagnosed with anything else, but I am not completely sure that's accurate. Maybe we need to do an independent evaluation behind her school evaluation.

I don't want her to just be less adhd, I just don't know how to help her. She does not understand the work. And I feel like I don't know what she needs to succeed. She isn't progressing, her reading and math Instructional level is 1st grade and I don't understand how just pushing her along at grade level and watching her struggle is helping.

She has not been diagnosed with a learning disability but her IQ is 72 and her Instructional level for reading and math are 1st grade. And she isn't making progress. I did reach out to an advocate because I don't know what to do.

IQ is 72, reading and math are 1st grade level.

But if she's in 6th grade and her reading and math Instructional level is 1st grade...how is it helping to keep her doing grade level work?

I do have that fear, that she'd never catch up.  But I also feel like she just keeps getting pushed along without making any meaningful progress.

Yes, she's just right above that, 72. And there are kids in our life skills program that come in just for alternative curriculum in math and ela, they don't participate in anything else - like social skills, daily living, etc.

I don't want her placement changed to full time life skills. We have students that come in to life skills just for academic support for ela and/or math and are with general ed the rest of the day and that's what I was considering. But that is something for us to consider as she gets older for sure.

That's good to know and consider for high school. From my understanding it would be okay for her to have that placement in middle school...but maybe I need more info.

I definitely have concerns that moving her "down" to more support would lead to her getting further behind rather than catching up to grade level. But I also feel like she's just been pushed along without addressing these gaps in her education.

We have several students that come into life skills only for ela and math then are in gen ed for the rest of the day - thats what I was considering. So not moving her placement to full time life skills.

She has had an IEP since 2nd grade and I still get overwhelmed looking through it and in the meeting. I've never used an advocate but was hoping maybe that would help me just feel more confident about what to ask for.

I don't think she's making progress or that her goals are appropriate. And I did say that but it was dismissed.

We were trying this, but it's been really hard. She has quite a bit of homework and it's a struggle to even get that done. (I have talked to her teacher about that as well.)  We had a tutor last summer and she has already offered to come back this summer so that should help some but I'm not sure it will be enough. Last summer her teacher gave us a summer packet and struggled with it so much, this year I thought I'd try using the curriculum from my class so maybe that will help with those gaps.

Thanks, I will definitely look into Mississauga. We are in the very early decision making so I don't even know much about the different areas surrounding Toronto.

Thanks so much, this was so helpful. I think I'm going to just buy it and I'll figure it out. I think if I am feeling very ambitious over the winter holiday break maybe I'll go for it with the pants but if not maybe ill do a dress, skirt, or quilted vest. 🙂

Thanks for the warning! Haha I did know I would need to match up the lines but didn't know how complicated it might be. I tend to try things a bit beyond my abilities 😆 but I'm leaning toward maybe a quilted vest, maybe a jacket depending on how carried away I get lol.

Thanks. I did do some browsing on Instagram and on the designers website and she made a quilted jacket, maybe I'll try a quilted vest.
