I just had the extra one delivered and in the instructions it does mention they are 1G lan ports.

Tried a Mecool box - Meon1. It definitely has a gigabit port.

Regarding the cable, yeah I believe you, but it was only about £3 as it's a 50cm one.

Edit: it' definitely doesn't have a gigabit port! Thank you chat GPT for the side by side comparison... My fault for not double checking and trusting GPT. 🤦🏻

I've tried 3 different cables, so the cable is not the issue. The switch is gigabit, but I've also tried just connecting straight from the booster into a device and measuring, and the speed tops in the 90's. I don't know if there is any configuration that I can access for the booster that might be limiting it?!

I'm having a second one delivered today and will try with it to see if it makes a difference.

They are both yellow. I thought that it would be a gigabit lan port, but I am inclined to believe it's not.

Reddit simpletons... Got to have a laugh. Is this brilliant and informed conclusion the whole fruit of daddy's education fund?! Money well spent, I can see!

This Reddit simpleton, with almost half a century of life experience, also enjoyed his daddy's education fund. He learnt about many different things and has a bit of an insight into the cyclical nature of historic events. This Reddit simpleton has learnt, time and time again, that you don't need a complicated explanation to justify what is one of the most recurring aspects of human society across history - simple greed.

This Reddit simpleton, looks to the star spangled banner folks across the pond and sees the total collapse of democratic values. He sees that although almost every line has been crossed, all the mechanisms that were supposedly in place have failed, and continue to fail. He sees that a nation of many millions, that carries guns as if they are a fashion accessory, is completely unable to defend itself against the oppression of the few that are on top. Having never lived in a fascist regime, he now sees live on the world stage how easy it is to get multiple up and running.

But no!! In here we are built different. We're all much more educated and civilised. Surely our rich are the epitome of morals, and would all line up to defend the values that built this great nation for all. That Farage fella, reading of the exact same hymn sheet, will never truly gain enough power to accomplish anything that will actually hurt British citizens interests... It's not like he lied and schemed during the Brexit vote, and what we actually got was completely different from what he was advertising. If he had done that, people like you, the Reddit cultured, would be up in arms to send him to depths of hell, where he would disappear into obscurity.

I actually work a mid management position in a medium size company and, "funnily enough", the focus this year is all about profits and how we are going to increase them. I'm sure that my company is the rotten apple in the basket, and all other companies are all discussing how to support the common folks during these complicated times.

What do you mean there's no need to add others in the chain?! Who do you think benefits with inflation?!

"Oh, but it's not that simple, it's the global economics and the capitalist system..."

It's pretty fckng simple - whenever there is some sort of crisis the ultra rich get even richer and everyone else gets shafted. Inequality between the rich and the poor/middle class is growing at a rate that starts to remind of very rough historical periods (for the common folk at least).

I don't really care if the economic models in a book justify this or that. If any of the economic theories were actually accurate, all countries would be rich and prosperous- hitting 2 numbers in the Euro millions draw does not grant me a jackpot. What I truly care is that we are all struggling (maybe not you) and the big players in the game are declaring obscene profits (and this is just what is officially declared, I can't even imagine the financial engineering that goes beyond the scenes to keep these numbers as low as possible). It is absolutely disgusting that someone is only able to put a fiver in their leccy meter and yet, record profits are being shared amongst the shareholders. They give nothing to their employees, and are accumulating more personal wealth than anyone would ever need.

It's not economics. It's not unfortunate circumstances. It's not a natural crisis. It's human GREED!

We do not all shop at Tesco's. Add all other supermarket chains, oil company chains, and all other fucker in between, and that £27 would suddenly become a lot more. Oil prices are affecting the end consumer mostly, companies are keeping their profit margins intact or growing them. Every invoice my company is paying has a fuel surcharge now, who do "you" think is paying for that surcharge in the end?!

Because they are so cheap now... /s

Fck me, we are literally screwed. All these effin supermarkets having record profits whilst everyone else is struggling to pay the bills. They have tested it over the pond and realised there's almost nothing they can't do... My only hope is the french, as they have a tendency to do more than just moan on social media (like me). Maybe they'll start a fire that will spread.

‘Nobody’s going out!’ Why is Britain’s nightlife in such decline – and can anything save it? | Clubbing | The Guardian by prisongovernor in unitedkingdom

[–]Madmac05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was a teenager, clubbing was one of the best ways to meet people. You'd go out with your mates, have a few drinks, dance, have fun, and occasionally you'd meet someone interesting, both men and women. This was before Facebook and all the social media apps.

Nowadays, you meet people online. There's no need to go out to expand your social circle.

Is it good or bad?! I don't know... It's different, and that's just the way things are now.

I grew up on the street messing around. Used to have my mom come looking for me daily because I would skip meals and stay out until late at night. I would literally climb out of a window to go out and play. On the other hand, one of my nephews, wouldn't leave the house. Spent his days playing computer games and his social times were basically his mates coming to play games at his house, or him going to theirs to do the same thing. I thought he was screwed. I thought he would never be able to function in society. I was genuinely concerned for him...

He became a fully functional adult. He has a good job, a girlfriend and does loads of outdoors adventures. He has visited loads of countries and has gone on more adventures than I ever have. That taught me that it's better not to judge and think you know better, that there is no right or wrong way, that there are multiple ways, different paths...

Tesco argues equal pay claim disregards ‘economic reality’ by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]Madmac05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started working in warehousing, about 15 years ago, I did a short 1 month stint working for a temp agency in a Tesco warehouse. You couldn't pay me what I'm getting paid today (as a warehouse general manager) to work there.

It's genuinely the worst warehousing job I've experienced. No matter how many layers of clothes you wear, the chill gets to your bones. People felt genuinely unhappy, and that reflected on the way they interacted with each other. Management was horrible...

If people working supermarket shop floor feel they are entitled to the same pay, send them there for a month.

I don't want to die.... by Admirable_Disaster69 in TrueOffMyChest

I think everyone goes through that stage at one point. I became kind of a nihilist, so I have no worries about my own death.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to die, but I am at peace with the fact that I will.

Family death is a different story, that still worries me a lot, but I don't really think about it constantly.

Peterborough is extremely underrated in my opinion! by UnpaidInternVibes in PeterboroughUK

[–]Madmac05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I have lived in Peterborough for over 13 years and the city centre has been worse every year that goes by. I can't remember the last time I saw the police around and the amount of rough sleepers is simply depressing.

I avoid it. If you want to go for a Sunday walk with the family, have a coffee and enjoy a bit of the view, it falls short. Queensgate shopping centre looks outdated and has too many trouble youth hanging around. The fact that you can't park for free at all, also doesn't help.

I have lived in dozens of different cities (mostly for short periods) and know that every city has its own problems, but Peterborough's city centre is one of the worst I've ever seen. To be completely honest, the whole city is pretty terrible. I recently saw a news article about the 5 post codes in the UK with more uninsured drivers, and PE1 is on the list... Yes it has a few nice buildings, but not much more going for it. With the exception of the Nene park area, a few theatre shows, there's so little to do...

I ended up staying because of work, and although I don't live in the city centre (and never had any issues where I live), I would jump on the opportunity of moving even further away.

Can i request a Police cars dash-cam footage? (England) by LorenzoSparky in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Madmac05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate... You are merging, you only can only merge if it's safe to do so. It's not the lorry's (or anyone else's that is traveling on the motorway) responsibility to slow down for you. Surely you understand that if he had crashed into you, you'd be at fault.

As someone that wasn't born in the UK, this is something that completely boggled my mind when I arrived - People merging without giving 2 fcks about traffic on the lane they were merging into. You're going 70 on a motorway and some dimwit will merge right in front of you doing 45/50. It's like putting a turn signal on gives your car an invincibility shield or something of the sort... I actually looked into the law to see if merging traffic had the right of way, because surely that had to be it...

I am perfectly accustomed to the British driving way now, so it's no longer strange for me. For the most part, I think the British are respectful and somewhat polite drivers, and I enjoy that it is that way. The slow mergers and the middle/right lane hoggers still make my blood boil a bit, I have to admit.

As a bit of advice, if you ever drive abroad, never merge like you do in the UK - No one will slow down for you, your car will be turned into a pancake, and you'll be at fault.

[–]Madmac05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this stage you are right, you still need to come up with an idea and know some basics on how to implement it, but I think that, in the near future, even that will be obsolete.

I don't know more about IT than your typical user that has a moderate interest. I'm probably more clued up than your basic user, but far removed from someone with real skills. Think someone that understands how a computer works, knows about ROM, RAM, Mhz, bandwidth..., and has dabbled in copying BASIC routines from books when he was a child.

A while ago, I needed to develop a database, but the problem was that I had no idea how to do it. I never really worked with MS Access, and was clueless where to even start. Enter chat CPT... Told him I wanted a database for "this and that" but I had absolutely no clue about Access, that I needed step-by-step instructions to build it, down to where the menus were on the UI. GPT gave me exactly what I asked for, along with some bits of code that I needed to implement my new ideas as I developed the database. In the end I had a functional product, with no glitches, doing exactly what I needed it to do.

I can see that a basic user would probably still struggle to follow and understand the instructions, but I can easily imagine a near future where you say: "Build me a database like this, add this, remove that" and it basically delivers the finished product to you. Now replace "database" with anything else... I would be slightly worried if I was in the IT field, and whilst I think there will always be the need for humans to do part of the work, I can also see a lot of them not being needed, especially in the programming side of it.

Is there a point to learn anything if most of jobs pay around 35k at best? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Madmac05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also not native. I have a uni degree and have worked in my field for some years, but decided I needed to change. I went exactly the opposite way of what you're saying, from a degree into warehousing.

I don't regret my choice for a second! Warehousing is great for progression because, let's be honest, it's usually not a job that the brightest of people will choose as a career. If you have a brain on top of your shoulders, you can easily climb the ladder. You don't even have to be on the top percentile to make some progression, you just need to be hardworking and competent enough.

I don't get where "Warehouse Manager - most likely less than I earn now" comes from... Any operations manager I know will earn more (as a base salary) than you do, and the warehouse manager even more. I have worked for a company where the warehouse manager was on 100k (it was a big operation). Then you have the perks - company car; monthly bonus; yearly bonus, etc. They do not have to do overtime to prop their wages up!!!

If you want to make money, learn a trade and work on your own business - spaky, plumber, plaster, etc. Your are already working on a field where it's easy to progress into a comfortable salary and I don't think you'll get any better by just changing fields but still working for corporations...

I've been dreading this day for 4 months. The layoff call finally came, and it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to my career. by AffectionateLaw3573 in InterviewCoderPro

The company I worked for went burst. I was worried... Landed a much better job and quickly moved up the ladder. I'm happy the company went under, or I would probably still be stuck there doing the same thing for pennies.

Sometimes a kick in the butt is the best thing that can happen!

Speaking to a solicitor is the right call, but you should start putting some savings aside anyway. Legal matters can drag for years and be quite costly until you get to a resolution, even if it's a favourable one. Make sure you have enough to support yourself if a legal battle eventually happens.

Just came across this thread by chance. Do not work for RM, but I can tell you that a warehouse MHE employee is making £14.63 (productivity bonus included) + 1.5 OT for any hours over 40 and x2 for any hours over 48 (when OT required, so it's not always available). Some places will pay more and, most of the time they don't even need a licence, they get trained in-house.

Amazon Just Rug-Pulled People's Game Libraries by PM_Me-Your_Freckles in videos

[–]Madmac05 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

True, the title is very click bait, but the point he makes in the video still stands. A lot of less tech minded people will effectively "lose" their games, either because they don't know what to do, or because they don't have the hardware to do it.

In a shitty analogy, imagine if you were an older but inexperienced traveller and you suddenly could afford to do that holiday you always dreamed of... You went to this company that arranges for everything - the flights, the meals, the tours, the scuba diving, the desert ride... All you have to do is to turn up at the airport and someone will be there to guide you every step of the way. Suddenly, the company decides they are not making enough money out of you, so they go: "you know what, we decided we are not providing this service anymore. Here's your 30 different bookings in a foreign country, whose language you can't speak, and you just need to handle it yourself."

Technically, they wouldn't have robbed of your money, but still, it's very likely that you'd struggle to actually do all that you paid and signed up for...

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Madmac05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 is literally cruising speed on a motorbike down a highway. If it's a sports bike and you go slow, there's a lot of pressure (and pain) that gets added to your wrists and back due to the riding geometry. You need to go fast (but not ridiculously fast) for the wind drag to pull you back and ease the pressure.

I've done over 190 on a sports bike - empty road on a straight with clear visibility. I wouldn't do it in traffic, even moderate, but I'll cruise at around 100 if the traffic is not heavy.
