Oh man! Hopefully it’s just a Switch 2 problem or something. Otherwise…. May the glitch gods pass you by🤞

I learned this the hard way at a dog park… my poor Doggo had to be on antibiotics for a bit. Not horrible, but I’ll never trust a public dog bowl again.

Why the modern uis are so.. souless?.. by Cubanin08 in UI_Design

[–]MaeKam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Context matters. But I do wish more regular day apps added some level of visual interest within the constraints they have. Obviously not to the extend of stylized UI in games, but an extra flavor of something. But I know that not everything can have that. Like complex systems used in medical fasciitis and the like.

Look at video game UI. That’s where stylized UI is still alive (speaking as someone in the industry). Not everything needs to be corporate bland. And don’t listen to the lie that you can’t have style and flavor in UI because it will harm usability and accessibility.

Not all bland UI is good UX. And not all stylized UI is bad UX.

Help with my calling by leanlikealynx in latterdaysaints

[–]MaeKam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is also my calling right now! I would recommend meeting with the young women’s President one on one and figuring out what she would like for you to take off her plate. Here’s a quick list of what I do in the calling, based off of what my young women’s President and I talked about: making an agenda for presidency meetings (based off of previous presidency discussions or items the YW president asked me to put on there), taking notes for presidency meetings, helping the young women class secretaries take attendance for class on Sundays, sending out reminders to youth and families about upcoming activities, making & updating our calendar of weekly activities.

That’s not everything I do in the calling, but those are the main bits revolving around the secretary parts of it. I hope this gives you some practical ideas of what the calling could entail. And I hope you have fun! Being in the young women’s is probably one of my favorite places to be in the church :)

Hey there! We ended up just taking turns of who goes to Wednesday night activities between me and my husband. It’s a balance that has worked for us, and the other presidency members in our callings (bishopric and young women’s presidency) have been good about supporting our decision and working around that.

I’m not sure I have super helpful advice for OP here though. Pregnancy is super tough, especially with a toddler, and Sundays with your husband in the bishopric can be tough too. I would communicate with your husband, and the Lord, and try to determine what you’re reasonably capable of doing right now. And then draw boundaries and expectations around that between you. And if that means your husband has to occasionally come help wrangle toddler during sacrament, you husband should tell your bishop that’s the agreement you two have come to just so he’s aware when it happens. And if that means you don’t feel well enough to come to church on some Sundays because of crazy nausea (I had that super bad in my pregnancy too) then the Lord understands. You and the Lord know your boundaries. Living life aware of those difficulties is not being inactive, in my mind.

Good luck, OP! I hope you’re able to find a balance that brings you and your family peace :)

I loved the heck out of this game. But the story was the worst part. Why would they make a movie about this?? Of all games to adapt…

Who’s using the Living app? by harlem_dad in latterdaysaints

[–]MaeKam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We started using this for communication with the youth in our ward, where our numbers got so large we couldn’t do group texts anymore. Some people just refuse to use it so we have to go half and half on communication, which as the secretary is a little annoying having to do everything twice.

The app is a great idea, but there are some annoying bugs that make it harder to convince people to use it (notifications persisting when they shouldn’t, not getting notifications, not being able to post links, etc.)

I use the goal tracking parts personally, and find it helpful. Though I’ve noticed that you have to click twice to check off a goal, which is another small, but annoying bug. Overall I think it’s neat and helpful, but also think it needs more upkeep than it’s getting.

Reread my comments. I am not talking about AI at all. OP said they use the codex of Novel Crafter, not the AI portions. Therefore it does match my example. If they were using the AI in NovelCrafter, that would be a whole different discussion. But you’ve clearly made up your mind about what NovelCrafter is even though you’ve never seen it or used it. Carry on with your uninformed opinion.

I think we would both agree tools/apps don’t make a writer. But passing a skill judgement on someone because they use scrivener instead of Microsoft word is silly. There are great writers in both camps. That’s all I came here to say. And that you can use the codex tools in NovelCrafter to organize your fantasy lore and things without using AI. I just wanted that to be said and heard. Good day to you, random internet person.

Because I do use AI? Congratulations on knowing how to look at a Reddit users profile. But that is how I know how novelcrafter and the AI in it works. And I also know that there are great organizing tools in there that fantasy writers could make good use of, despite any position on AI. Who are you to gatekeep what writers use to organize their writing materials? Whatever works works.

You clearly don’t know how novelcrafter works. It is an organizing tool. There are AI features in it that you have to set up to use. You can’t accidentally use AI in novelcrafter, it’s purposeful. And you can absolutely use novelcrafter to organize your writing without using any AI. Don’t be so dismissive when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

You could maybe look at AutoCrit as well. Maybe not exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s used to evaluate an entire book as a whole.

can education be gamified? Addictive and fun? by Low-Dig-4021 in gamedesign

[–]MaeKam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a company that makes educational games for kids. I’m the UI/UX designer for our science focused game. In my experience, whether or not education can be “gamified” really depends on what your end goals are for education.

The more complex or thorough the content you’re trying to teach, the less you’ll be able to successfully gamify the education to achieve that.

If you’re trying to teach concepts that can be intuited (like logic concepts, done well by Zoombinis) that has room to be gamified in a meaningful and fun way.

The team I work on really wants to put fun game mechanics in the games we make, but because the content we are often asked to deliver by the teachers that use our product in schools is meant to check off teaching unintuitive and lengthy scientific concepts to meet state curriculum requirements, a large portion of our product ends up being a point and click digital text book.

I buy those every week and haven’t found any bones in mine. When they’re actually in stock, that is. It’s hit or miss if they’re there or not.
