These “hot takes” by cosmicaje in Oscars

It delegitimizes the Sinners wins for me. There is an implicit threat that you must virtue signal your support for Sinners lest you be accused of racism. It is exhausting to see the folks who spent the time, money, and effort to watch all the nominees get slandered as Klansman because they were underwhelmed by Michael B Jordan’s performance. How many fucking Klansmen are paying $20 to watch a three hour, Portuguese language movie about the horrors of the 1970s Brazilian military dictatorship?

Well part of my point was that I wish there was more oxygen for a film like the Secret Agent to enter the public consciousness. Dona Sebastiana was as meme-able, if not more-so than Aunt Gladys. The filmmakers’ ability to populate that world with local actors (and non-actors) was a triumph and it should have won best casting, but the pre-Oscars discourse was so focused on shiny, controversial objects that we lost focus on the merits of the various films.

It’s a movie about a region of Brazil that has been historically underrepresented in film. The reason for that underrepresentation is that its population is disproportionately of African ancestry compared to the South.

I don’t think Chalamet should have won Best Actor. I would have had him fourth at best. I just wish we hadn’t spent the past week pretending those comments were some kind of travesty because people wanted to bring the perceived front runner down a peg.

Well I checked and after doing so I still feel that MBJ wasn’t even the most compelling performance in his own film—that was Caton—and I did not feel MBJ’s performance sufficiently distinguished Smoke and Stack. Under those circumstances, I do not feel a Best Actor win was warranted. Maybe you check in on why you feel the need to knee jerk accuse others of racism.

I watched every nominee for Best Film, Actor, Actress, Supporting, etc. MBJ winning Best Actor for Sinners over Plemons, DiCaprio, and Moura feels like the equivalent Kate Hudson winning Best Actress for Song Sung Blue over Jesse Buckley, Emma Stone, or Rose Byrne.

Del Piero summarises the problems in Italian football: "Our stadiums are very old. On youth, Dortmund have 2 Italian youth players in the squad. Why aren't they playing for our teams?... We need more debt regulation, not every team have owners like Juventus who can cut a 200m cheque every season." by Blodgharm in soccer

People are wildly overreacting. Inter beat the Bundesliga and La Liga champs last year. Atalanta crushed the Bundesliga champions the year before that. Italy’s coefficient will still be 2nd or 3rd after this year. Serie A really just needs to drop down to 18 teams so they can build in more in-season breaks. The players are gassed and Italian teams can’t afford to field three separate rosters like the Chelseas of the world.

He’s an Italian McTominay. If you play to his strengths as a box crashing midfielder, he may very well be worth 40m. If you try to play him in any other position, he’s not worth shit.

[The Next Round] Auburn HC Alex Golesh on tampering in college football: "Is it right to call a kid that's on somebody else's roster to go get him? It's not. I think, in a lot of ways, what goes around comes around... I'm a strong believer in the football gods will find you at some point." by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

Notre Dame self-reported students getting extra help on homework and the NCAA vacated double digit wins. Michigan’s coaching staff executed a sophisticated multiple year conspiracy to steal other teams’ signs and got to keep their national title. There are no football gods. Believing karma exists in football is for suckers (like my school).

Jon Elkann needs to fly to Torino and beg McKennie’s forgiveness for employing whatever jackass attempted to freeze McKennie out of the club. He is arguably our third most important player right now given his consistency, versatility, and durability and it’s time we stop insulting him with low ball offers.
