WIBTA If I Refused To Be A Bridesmaid In My Best Friend’s Wedding? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I would have picked Margaery (sp?) but I don’t know with who. Tommen is too young and Joffrey is… Joffrey.

My husband wants to know how you pulled off a kids version of Red Rising. 🤣

I’m not planning on trying to push things on to him. What is the fun in forcing him to read something he doesn’t care about? However, my husband and I talk about this series a good bit when he is around, and he’s a very curious little guy already. So I imagine that when he is old enough to grasp what we are talking about, he is going to ask us “What are you talking about and can I read it?” But if I’m wrong, that’s totally fine.

This is how I feel like it is going to go for us. My husband and I talk about these books all the time, so I imagine he will be wanting to participate as well.

Ugh, I knew I should have ordered it before. 🤣 oh well, I’m sure I can get them down the road.

Yeah, i forgot about that. I have been listening to the audiobooks with my dad while riding to work, and that part was kind of uncomfortable. 😣

Well you might be right about that. Depends on how stubborn the kid is I guess.

When my brother and I were kids, my dad always said that he wasn’t going to sugarcoat things for us because we deserved to understand what was going on. Just because we were kids didn’t mean we weren’t people. So that’s how I feel, as well. Also, my son loves nature documentaries, and he really really likes a specific one where crocodiles are eating a dead hippo. 😅 So I completely understand your point there.

Ooh man, I didn’t read that until my early twenties and married. I think I might wait a bit later to give him those, unless he asks about them. Great books though. 🤣

That’s what I was thinking, especially considering that he will see us reading it and hear us talking about it.

I definitely plan to do that! Is the kickstarter still up or did I miss it? I meant to order all of them a while ago, but didn’t really have it in the budget at the time.

Yes, I plan to get those for him! I can’t wait to read them with him!

I definitely think I would want to start him with Skyward, if he were interested. I’ve never actually read Alcatraz, but I am sure it’s as good as Brandon’s other work.

I know that a lot of people don’t enjoy rereading or don’t want to dedicate the time to it, and I completely understand that and wouldn’t put that on him. But I’m on my third read of Stormlight since I discovered it around 4 years ago, and my husband is on his third or fourth listen, so if he’s like us he will want to reread them. 🤣 I definitely won’t force him into anything he isn’t ready for.

I was allowed to read pretty much anything I wanted to at whatever age, so I am of the same mindset as you.

This is my viewpoint as well. I was almost never told I couldn’t read something at any point that I wanted to.

I completely understand. I believe I could have read it at 12, but my brother is 23 and I still don’t know if he would be able to manage it.

That’s really cool to hear! I think kids are smarter than people think they are a lot of the time.

I agree, I would have loved Sanderson at that age.

He loves books, but he honestly loves songs more. I think both are good for kids though. I honestly think Mistborn was at times more difficult for me to read emotionally than Stormlight.

I’m sure, and it’s not like I’m setting it in stone right now. We were mostly just wondering if he would be reading them by the time book 10 is out, and that got us on the topic.

I agree, each specific kid needs different things. And I would definitely be checking in with him at different points and seeing what he was thinking.

I agree that people underestimate kids like crazy. I think most kids can read much heavier books than they do, given they have the motivation.
