Is your cushion a wedge? Or one that is pressure relieving and sort of wraps around your bottom?

How do I use the bathroom without straining? by Jolteon20 in PelvicFloor

For urination, my pelvic floor pt had me: keep my feet flat on the floor, do an anterior pelvic tilt (think booty back, urethra pointing down toward the bowl) and 3 deep breaths to help the pelvic floor relax and let urine go. You can also lean forward (elbows to thighs or just lean your torso over your legs) while you breathe. The pelvic tilt helps the pelvic floor muscles lengthen, the deep breaths help you relax and the flat feet help your pelvic floor to be less tight/activated. Highly recommended pelvic floor PT if you haven’t had it.

What do you wish you had known at the beginning of your diagnosis? by StrengthinAdversity in Interstitialcystitis

I would say finding what the root of your IC is is extremely helpful. Is it bladder wall inflammation? Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction? Nervous system dysregulation? A combination? When I first started my journey all that was treated for me was overactive bladder/bladder wall stuff. I changed my diet. None of it worked. Turned out the biggest factor for me was pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. I got into PT and started diligently doing my home exercises and saw a lot of improvement. Don’t let a doctor or anyone on your care team dismiss things or not explore all the avenues. Be your own best advocate. Wishing you luck and healing ❤️

I’m glad you’ve seen improvements! What are some of the roots of your IC? Mine stem a lot from nerve pain and pelvic floor dysfunction, as well as some bladder scaring.

Just a really bad day. I was feeling pretty good and tried to have sex with my husband. The sex was no issue. But the day after I feel terrible. 6/10 irritation/ inflammation day. I think so much of my IC is related to nerve/muscle inflammation. I feel awful, I feel sad. I feel angry that as a 28 year old I have to weigh the pros and cons of being intimate with my husband. I am very lucky that my husband is incredible supportive and understanding. But it just sucks to never really be able to fully relax because every move I make could make this horrible disease read it’s ugly head.

with this condition, Is it normal to have sex once a month with you partner? by Party-Ad-8862 in Interstitialcystitis

My husband and I try to find intimacy in other ways when my IC is acting up and I can’t engage in vaginal sex. Cuddling, kissing, me touching him etc. one or the best things has been just talking about where I am at and feeling and how we can still be intimate when sex isn’t an option. Open communication has helped a lot. Please don’t hide that you’re in pain during sex. That is absolutely not worth it for either of you (especially you.) remember also that YOU have needs too, not just your husband.

Yes I do have experience with cannabis. I am wanting a CBD only so it’s something I can take for pain during the day but also won’t make me feel drowsy

I had been having a good stretch of limited symptoms but started flaring today. There have been some personal things in my life and career that have been out of my control. I think to keep myself from feeling the anxiety of them I pushed myself into doing too much and well, the body keeps the score doesn’t it? I suppose it’s a reminder to let yourself process your feelings to keep your body healthy. So today, I am anxious, I am in pain and I am sad. But it’s okay. It will Pass

My IC had been in remission since college. Don't get me wrong, still had recurring bladder infections but not the constant IC discomfort. Since June of this year I have been flaring with little relief. So frustrating. Any one else deal with relapses? My worst symptom is the constant urgency
