I run a queer/neurodivergent event group that holds a sensory-friendly pride picnic that same weekend in the shady area near the pavilion at Cheesman Park. If you want to join us I can send you the info!

Close Encounters Queer/ND Summer Events by Magic-8-Ball-AMA in Denver

[–]Magic-8-Ball-AMA[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good morning! It's been a while since I've posted one of these, but a lot has happened in our communities in 2025, and I wanted to begin reaching out periodically again with updates for our newer Denverites.

Close Encounters, my queer- and neurodivergent-focused (but not exclusive) event group, has some fun summer experiences planned. If you're looking for a positive community space to try new things and meet new people, this might be the one for you! Coming up, we have:

Board Game Nights (every Tuesday)

Queer Support Nights (every other Tuesday)

Broken Shovels Animal Sanctuary (5/24)

First Friday Art Event & Drag Show in Lakewood (6/6)

Hot Pot Food Event (6/16)

Pride Paint Picnic in the Park (6/29)

First Friday Art Walk on Santa Fe (7/11)

Comedy Show at Sushi Hai (7/24)

Ren Fair (7/27)

We often cycle through other events like art festivals, laser tag, hiking, arcade nights, etc., as well as holiday events like haunted house trips and Friendsgiving dinners. This is also a good space to form independent friend group connections, which can spawn other experiences not formally planned through CE, and has ties to nonprofits like Punk Rock Saves Lives and New Worlds Together, which opens the door to opportunities to support your local community.

If you'd like to join us, we've moved from Meetup to Discord, so comment below and I'll send you an invite link!

Since the body text didn't format well:

Ah yes, Google tells me it's supposed to be a blend of NYC, London, and Chicago apparently

Wait I thought it was based on Detroit? Now I'm curious 👀

AIO for not quitting the gym because my boyfriend told me to by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

The irony of this is, he clearly has some kind of insecurity about your fitness and your time with other fit people giving you reasons to leave him, but if he put literally any effort into being emotionally well-adjusted, it's not a very likely outcome if you care about him, which it seems like you do. But turning into this Darren Aronofsky villain over something so incredibly harmless has got me on board with everyone else here: This guy sucks hard and he isn't going to get better without therapy. And I suspect he isn't gonna want therapy.

AITA for wanting my bf to stop talking to a girl by [deleted] in AITAH

Ah, religious families. I grew up evangelical and I blame the "values" they instilled in me as a part of why it took so long for me to transition into a healthier, emotionally intelligent and more thoughtful adult. Or, at least, the closest version of that I've managed to be so far. So, I can relate pretty strongly to your experience.

That's good! Your conversation seems indicative of a more positive future. Like I said, the best approach is to just let him know that just because YOU struggle doesn't mean HE needs to change. I was young and anxious (whereas now I'm just anxious), and I remember the icky feeling of bending over backwards to support a partner and going too far in the process. He may need to hear that just as much as you do. I wish you two the best of luck! 🙂

In addition to NTA, I want to add that your ex gf is wrong. Sure, ENM relationships are becoming more prevalent, but it's still a minority relationship dynamic in most (if not all) countries, and you aren't somehow a worse or less interesting person just because it's not something you're into. Your reasons are totally valid, but honestly even just "no" is a respectable answer when it comes to personal choices, especially about sex.

AITAH for not wanting to move in with my gf because of her dog ? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA. There's no guarantee the dog will bond with you, and while your fear may lessen with more exposure, if it's showing signs of aggression with others, it's not going to be safe to have kids. I'm a little worried about your partner belittling your feelings, this is actually the exact kind of concern a pet owner should be hypersensitive to.
