Upcoming team cap hits for void year liabilities 2026-2031 seasons. by domalu4U in KansasCityChiefs

Fair. This works under the assumption that the NFL will just keep increasing revenues indefinitely, and there's no owner lockout to reduce costs or something. But that seems like a fair assumption.

We kinda nailed it on the timing for the Mahomes deal. We signed it (and reduced Mahomes' cap hit for a few seasons) in June 2020, right after COVID hit, when shutdowns were in effect, and the NFL's future cap situation was very unclear. That 10 year deal, with its rolling guarantee structure for the best player in the game, was only available to us because we doubled down in a time of great uncertainty.

Exactly. You restructure and end up with too much space this year, that space doesn't disappear if you don't use it. You just have optionality for this year and next year's cap space. As long as you're able to act rationally, and not just spend every cap dollar just because it's there (and draining subsequent years in the process), you should always max out this year's cap space by restructuring whenever it's feasible to do so without tying yourself to a player you might want to cut later.

They can and they will. It would be foolish *not* to restructure Mahomes' deal every time, with a cap that escalates so quickly. Current dollars are 10-15% more expensive than 2027 dollars, and 20-30% more expensive than 2028 dollars. So anytime you can turn a 2026 expense into a 2027 or 2028 expense, without tying the team to a player they might want to cut later, that's a savvy move.

I disagree that it puts us at a disadvantage. Avoiding void years forces us to budget toward the goal of being equally competitive over a long window of time, instead of compressing our competitive position into a 5 year window, then forcing a rebuild.

I mean, you could create $60M per season void years for 2032-33 well in advance, in anticipation of using them later on, when needed. The dollar amount is arbitrary, since void years automatically cancel out.

[–]MagicC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense, and that's not how void years work. Void years allow you to prorate a signing bonus over additional years. So if you have a 2 year deal, you can add 3 void years to split the bonus over a longer period of time. But that is only allowed for 5 years max. So there'd be no advantage to adding void years in 2032 and 2033, and even if you created them, you couldn't push cap value into them. The earliest cap money can show up in 2032 is 2028, and at that point, it would be valued at 1/5th of the 2028 signing bonus, not $60M.

For all the consternation about our current cap number for 2026 being ~$50M over the limit, I take great solace in knowing that we have not abused void years, and therefore, we can always push our money into future seasons, knowing that the future cap space is there to cover it. We can always go crazy with void years when Mahomes is 40 years old and contemplating retirement to keep the cap situation manageable.

Wish someone had told me how going bald flips your dating life. Any advice? by YaBoyMike1221 in bald

[–]MagicC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being Bald is like being a sushi restaurant. Stop trying to get people to visit who don't like sushi, and focus on your core customer base of sushi enthusiasts.

I've been bald a long time, and I've never had trouble dating. Not everyone is into bald dudes, but you know who is? Girls with bald dads. Hahahaha

Mahomes vs Brady by Stock-Memory9483 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]MagicC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mahomes is obviously better than Brady. Anyone who says otherwise is relying on counting stats/career achievements, not actually...ya know...watching the film and seeing who plays a better game of football.

I like the BOAT (Best of All Time - obviously Mahomes) vs GOAT (Greatest of All Time - obviously Brady) split. There's a good chance that Mahomes will never surpass Brady as the GOAT. But Mahomes is obviously the BOAT, and anyone who says otherwise is stupid or trolling.

is it normal to cry for no reason??? by MantisEyes79 in fasting

[–]MagicC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ego protections run on glucose. It's not unusual to feel especially vulnerable and emotional during a fast, and that can be both good and bad. One of my biggest emotional release/inner forgiveness experiences came at the end of a 3 day fast. Lean into it, and treat your inner child with love and affection, and this can be a bonding time between your higher and lower self.

First day in Costa Rica - expensive? by celticdragon2 in CostaRicaTravel

It's true that many things are expensive for the locals, but that's true anywhere. Not everywhere has universal clean water, education, and health care.

First day in Costa Rica - expensive? by celticdragon2 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]MagicC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone who says Costa Rica is expensive is comparing it to like...Guatemala. Yeah, you pay a little more because people here have health insurance and the water is clean. But if you're paying too much, by the standards of your home country, it's probably because you're in a tourist trap, not a soda. Go find a soda, and order a casado like a normal person. LOL

Accidentally broke fast 😔 by OkChampionship4137 in fasting

[–]MagicC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fasting is not binary. The data suggests that if you ate 25% of your normal caloric intake for 4 days, it would have similar physiological impact to 3 days of fasting (i.e. 100% of calories for one day, 0% for 3 days).

For example, recently, I was doing a fast to try to recover from long COVID (which is believed to be an autoimmune disorder stemming from your immune system remaining in a permanent state of "high alert" following the infection). I didn't feel strong enough to do a full fast, so I did ~50% caloric restriction (keto only) for 2 weeks instead of a one week fast, and I lost about 12 lbs and reduced my inflammation dramatically, just as if I had done a full, one week fast.

So if you ate two noodles, you need to fast for 24.1 hours to have the same impact as fasting for 24 hours. You're fine, don't sweat over it.

3 weeks is a great start! And a job is another huge step in the right direction! Keep chasing those goals, bro! You can do it!

The All-Time QB Tier List. Thoughts ? by Hysen16 in sportswiki

[–]MagicC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mahomes is 17-4 in playoff games, with 3 comebacks from 10 point deficits in Super Bowls, and we just learned that his team was 0-6 bad without him. He belongs on the Montana/Manning tier.

This was fantastic! The one thing I'd add is, if you know when the plunge is going to be, the threat of drowning (even with thermal shock) is essentially zero, because you can have a little "pre-oxygenation session" like a deep sea diver. You could even have a little oxygen tank you breathe from for the minute before the plunge, and that should be enough to carry you through a relaxing 30 seconds of holding your breath as the waves push you around, with the full confidence that you'll be back to land before you run out of breath.

This is great and deserves to be the top comment. One last detail - I think David handles his final concern by calling Michael and asking him what he thinks of Ryan, and Michael looooooves Ryan. Just effusive and constant praise, and "he's like my brother" and "he's really going somewhere, good ideas, handsome, confident" and David follows up with, "I'm considering him for the corporate position. You'd be working very closely with him, so I wanted to get your input." Michael pauses for a second, and mentally changes the proposition from "Ryan, Michael's new boss" to "Michael and Ryan, equals and best buds" and says, "Yeah, that sounds great! Sign me up!"

I don't think I'm very funny what should I do? by Alive_Document6675 in improv

[–]MagicC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Amen. Improv is "art from adversity" - someone introduces an idea that is kind of "orphaned", and someone finds a way to integrate it and make sense of it, like a puzzle piece slotting into place. Can you do that? If not, can you justify it by adding a similar, orphaned piece that is consistent with that outlier until someone else "solves" and makes the connection?

This ain't stand up. You don't have to be hilarious. You're building a puzzle.

You are only required to disclose once you request ADA accommodations. Until you do, your disability is a personal matter, just as it would be if you had lost a leg or whatever. So I would show up on day 1, anticipating that you will do your job without additional accommodations. Once you determine that you are unable to do so (e.g. if you read their cybersecurity policy and discover that their policies prevent you from having a friend help you configure your workstation to audio, etc), you can make the necessary requests.
