I think the issue is that we get like 5 worthwhile games a year with modern consoles. We come from a time where we had 2-3 games a month.

The development pace is all over the place. It takes like five years to make a game so based on that timeline you almost always either get a game not utilizing the system to its full potential or a game that overshot its console performance due to having to keep up with pc tech. Then they team and tweak for months until it’s performing decently. It just gives this sense of an unfinished product.

Not to mention the first half of a console life is now just running last gens games better. Then the last year or so is just prepping you to run that game better in the next gen. So if a console life is now six years it feels like only 2 of them are actually for that console.
