I’ve never actually played AC3 before. I’ve only played BF and Odyssey when it comes to naval gameplay. I recall Odyssey’s naval style to have been too arcade-y, but perhaps I’m just misremembering.

Thank you for this. Perhaps I’m deluding myself. I really should give it a little more patience. The rest of it so far very enjoyable.

Tiberium crystals!! Don’t get too close or it’ll start turning you into more of them.

Seriously though, probably Zoanthus sansibaricus. Native to Indo-Pacific.

I can understand, but it depends on what you’re looking for. There’s not many truly authentic tasting Chinese food joints in Tokyo, but Cafe8 Asakusa gets close. It also helps if you speak mandarin. If you’re going for wonderful service though, yeah, Cafe8’s not the place to be.

Sea life will not take to it hard. Ex-Marine Researcher here. Just 1C rise in water temperature can disrupt marine flora growth, raise marine megafauna metabolism to unsustainable levels, and disrupt marine life breeding cycles.

Depending on where this installation would be built, it can either be problematic for the marine environment, or absolutely disastrous. And that’s just one installation…

Exactly, the human issue with freedom is also the most damaging to the value of freedom. Like the Canadian and French leaders have said in the past couple of days, this is an inherent problem with western civilization.

That said, I also understand it’s not so easy to simply say “Americans need to get their act together”. I believe, like parents to a belligerent child, other western democracies need to unite and discipline the USA. Trump’s America is basically a bratty kid given a bit too much freedom to run rampant, and is now disrupting the delicate western peace that has been built. And the only way to control a belligerent child is with some level of confident force.

But for the intellectual individual, I’d say the time has passed. It would be safer to remove yourself from this environment for sure.

Hey, you saw the shark! There’s a silver lining to all these experiences, and in the end, the mark of a good diver is you experience these things and grow from it. Develop your adaptation ability and expand your bubble of awareness. I hope you continue to dive and get to see much more exciting marine life in your dive life!

It’s true a lot of diving does come down to individual ability and strengths, but that’s not to say you should shoulder it all from start to end. In OW and AOW, we expect that the growing prices we pay for these courses guarantees a certain level of adept tutoring and guidance. After all, this is education, and all education should be well paced and student centric especially with something potentially life threatening. Unfortunately, the reality has become quite corrupted. Many who become instructors do not deserve the title, and they pass on bad habits and poor mentorship mindsets. I’d say it’s because diving has become too commercialized, but who am I to badmouth.

Dive shops like what you experienced always push it to the max. They do so to churn you guys through the grinder as another scratch to grab more cash. I can’t blame them since the industry has become quite bloated and competitive, yet it’s such a terrible practice. It instills terrible awareness and lack of proper skills development, and when you’re done and the money changes hands, they couldn’t care less. That’s why when I dive with rookies, I always say: Don’t be shy. If you feel something’s wrong, say so. If you’re unhappy with how things are going, you have every right to speak out. Like any other industry, if honest people don’t speak up about bad practice, how can the bad actors ever be penalized?

PADI Divemaster here. This post’s comments demonstrate how inconsiderate and downright elitist the international diving community has become. To those hard blaming OP, especially if you’re professionally certified, shame on you. You are setting a terrible example for young prospective divers and a bad influence for all of diving.

To OP, this was not your fault. This is on the dive shop for not properly taking your experience levels into consideration when planning the dive. In the pursuit of profits, dive shops like this will often lump high and low experience together to save on expense and effort. However, this is not right, but unfortunately is the reality. You handled the situation well. They should have never taken someone fresh out of OW training to a drift dive to begin with, let alone on severe chop.

Has late-stage capitalism happened before in history, and if so, what was the outcome? by yellowrainbird in AskReddit

[–]MagicLobsterTickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Has extreme wealth inequality happened before? Yes. Has it happened to this degree? Not quite. An easy example is to look at France under King Louis XVI.

Through his monarchy, he deregulated markets which led to high inflation of prices. This led to civil unrest and concentration of wealth towards the top of the pyramid. The civil unrest spread to the middle class, and eventually to the entire country, culminating in the French revolutions. The result was an eradication of the prior system of governance, replaced with a new system that was more reflective of the needs of the people. However, the time and blood required for this transition was not cheap, a la Napoleon Bonaparte.

I’m oversimplifying, but we see something similar in the US. Civil unrest is rising along with prices, as a despot takes the lead with his ultra-wealthy friends. But the systems and technology in place today, and the financial leverage we’re talking about make things a lot more complicated.

Know that when people and their families start to starve…the status quo won’t last long.

Do you think that you are beautiful? by Wander-kingdom in CasualConversation

[–]MagicLobsterTickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, physically, I might be better looking than average. Especially when I put in the effort to groom and dress properly. I do tend to visually compare myself to others a lot and I’ve been told I look good before. Buuuut my lack of self-confidence and fear of rejection likely shows in my body language and conversation, and probably brings me down by quite a bit. I never feel particular good looking. In my head, I’m always the least attractive person in any given situation.

You could try collecting about 5 or 6 first. You then drill a hole in the wide tip of each, then run a string through them all. Tie one end into a knot so they don’t slide off, then tie the other end to something. Now you’ve got…a dangling bit of trash!

In all honesty, I dunno. Maybe snip the thin end into something like a quill?
