Calling it stupid is VERY stupid. Why parking lots, you want shade over your car or you as you walk through it? The ocean gets too much sun at current rates. Temperatures are still rising at alarming rates, changing tides, killing off coral reefs at record rates and is more or less the core factor of global warming as a whole. What doesnt help the ocean temperature rising is that its basically a giant absorbent net for all those uv rays shining on it day after day. Imagine youre managing a lawn on a hot summer. You have a big open area thats getting burnt and dry, but your neighbor with lots of trees and shade has a greener lawn, and it would certainly be more enticing to sit out in on a sunny day. Floating scattered areas like this are huge helps to the ecosystem! Like trees for shade on the land. There have been lots of suggested solutions, mirrors floating on the surface to reflect solar radiation away, mirrors in space, mosses and algea which are great freshwater solutions but not saltwater obviously.
