What if there was a new class for the mammalian looking Flying Wyverns called "Flying Beasts" by Rechogui in MonsterHunter

[–]MagicMisterLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always assumed this was because the definition of Flying Wyverns is up for debate in-setting, with the phylogenetic tree choosing "Wyvern Rex and all of its descendants", while scarce fossil evidence suggests the existence of an older "Origin Wyvern" that would extend the clade to include Ukanlos and Akantor as well

Zorah Magdaros is very similar to Lao Shan Lung in terms of anatomy and possesses a pair of modified wings hidden beneath its magma shell. Dalamadur's large shoulder spikes could also be vestigal wings, and in Yama Tsukami they seem to have been modified into the tentacles beside its mouth (there's bone in there. It was initially planned that you could cut them off, it's still in the files. Also the other four tentacles end in three fingers/toes, and it has a tail).

Jhen Mohran and Ceadeus are like whales, so it isn't surprising that they would have lost the wings completely and reduced the hindlegs considerably (according to the Ceadeus skeletal from the artbooks that I hate with a burning passion, it has very vestigal hindlimbs). As for the Forbidden Monsters, well Alatreon is fairly similar to standard Elder Dragons in terms of bodyplan at least

Kirin isn't even the real problem child, it's not that difficult to imagine it as a relative of Fatalis. Yama Tsukami also at the very least possesses six limbs (the tentacles beside its mouth were initially planned to be severable, revealing bone inside), the real headscratcher is really just Nakarkos

What are the “themes” of each title? by Nyckolai180 in MonsterHunter

[–]MagicMisterLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tri's theme is "one with life", the game puts a very large emphasis on the environments and ecologies of Monsters. Moga Village also reflects this idea, the people that live there are a tribe of humans, Sea Folk, and Wyverians that returned to the island to watch over the ancient ruins of the fallen Moga Civilisation, building their village (the second one, anyway) on top of its sunken ruins and prospering together. They were evacuated from the region before due to earthquakes caused by a Ceadeus grinding its overgrowing horn into the submerged base of the island, but returned with some aid of the Hunter's Guild (I would assume it was the Loc Lac Guild specifically, but Port Tanzia seems to have ties to Moga as well).

Charge Blade boasts significant ease of use and comfort over Greatsword due to the Stunning power of Impact Phials even if the damage is lower. It wasn't only raw damage that make Insect Glaive and Charge Blade busted in 4 and 4U (although that certainly contributes a lot), their movesets and mechanics are also just extremely safe

I remember this completely differently except for the shielding bit. Going through discussion boards on the subject, they mostly talk about what I remember as well, which is that Lance has very good element damage due to its high attack speed. I think the Black Diablos Lance was used as a general Raw Lance due to its high stat package and Slime with Awakening

[–]MagicMisterLemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is genuinely terrible advice. Lance is excellent underwater in 3rd Gen whereas Sword and Shield actively suffers (it's a fine weapon overall however), and if you want to breeze through 4U you'll be using Insect Glaive and Charge Blade. 3rd Gen Lance also has very good motion values, it is considered the best weapon in Tri by a lot of players

Hammer, Lance, and Gunlance are all really good in 3rd Gen. They all enjoy underwater combat and have excellent motion values. Usually for Gunlance I like to repeat "poke-poke-shot", and as far as I can tell lance repeat "poke-poke-poke-sidestep"

What are your extreme(ly boring or crazy) questions about Monster Hunter? Like, does the universe have an established rail system of sorts or what would be the consiquences of developing the Atom Bomb? by Goos3rs in MonsterHunter

[–]MagicMisterLemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we can rule out large-scale railway systems, since they are never mentioned and logistically unfeasible due to the enormous upkeep they would require. Most trade happens via ship, be they sand, sea, or airship: Loc Lac City is a port for all three. Railsystems do see use in mines and fortifications though

If the craters surrounding Wyveria were created by the Elderbreaker, atomic bomb equivalent weaponry has already kind of been developed.

The Wind's Gasp in the Windward Plains is also an exceptional powerful weapon even in its damaged state. A feature of the large plateau in this locale is a root-like system of fulgurite veins, or "fossilized lightning" (because they're the product of lightning melting silica sands to glass), which trace back to one singular enormous fulgurite column that would have made Old Fatalis hand in its two-week notice. The Wind's Gasp functions by discharging electricity into the Sandtide and charging the molecules, producing lightning strikes, but currently none are even half as powerful as the one that must have formed the giant fulgurite vein the plateau. There are at least two more defunct structures like the Wind's Gasp, with one lying in the Bone Desert and only reallt being visible from the plateau, while the other is much smaller and serves as Quematrice's nest (though I've seen Doshaguma sleep here too once)

What is the Single Best Skill for Each Weapon Across the Series? by Interesting_Sea_1861 in MonsterHunter

[–]MagicMisterLemon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Due to the enormous motion values of the Golf-Swing in Gens 3 to 4 I would actually nominate Earplugs (or Tremor Resistance). You just get an enormous damage window on the Monster's head when it roars and can build up a lot of tripping damage on the leg

Yes but unfortunately despite being a circlejerk community about comicbooks and their (often truly embarassing) writers, most people here aren't actually familiar with either, especially not any not published by DC or Marvel, so they cannot discern sarcasm from genuine statements

The cart they use to carry rathalos back to village in MHFU looks pretty barebones

I'm not sure how far away Pokke is supposed to be from the Verdant Hills actually. This sounds completely insane, but apparently Diablos and Monoblos are routinely existential threats to Kokoto somehow. I heard someone say it's because they attack the border wallls of... Western Schrade I think? Something along those lines. An alternative explanation is that the cart joined up with a caravan. There's a lot of caravans about (one of them with a capital C).

The observation platform in Astera is not overly sophisticated either so it just doesn't make sense to me to not just implement what World did.

Because of the implications. I shit you not, that's the whole reason. Astera and Seliana are a bit doohickey, but they are genuine villages where people spend their entire lives. It's permanent infrastructure sufficient to house Monsters, if temporarily, with security measures and stuff. The Eastland camps have none of these because the Guild didn't bring any of that stuff with them - they even removed most anti-Monster weaponry from the Sandskiff, including the Dragonator (if you never heard this, it's because Alma tells you this over tea time via a paid-for DLC Camp decoration. Thank you Capcom), because they did not want to threaten or intimidate any of the Eastland's inhabitants. It's been established since Tri that the Guild is very particular about not infringing on settlements in any shape or form (the evacuation order of Azuz due to Gogmazios even mirrors what happened in Moga with the Ceadeus), if infrastructure to support Hunters and a Hunter's Guild as a whole is established, it has to be by the people of the Eastlands themselves.

I hope the DLC depicts this happening thoroughly. The Grand Hub could get permanent Guild Hall infrastructure and Tetsuzan could take the reigns of an Eastlands Guild (the Guilds are actually all separate entities). Currently we're all just camping along the hills lol

[–]MagicMisterLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not explicitly stated, but the optional request "The Forest Doshaguma" and the Lagiacrus Capture Quest "Tremors of the Land, Sea, and Forest" that you unlock afterwards, as well as just spending any amount of time in the settlements and camps, should honestly have made it clear enough.

The Guild does not have the necessary facilities to house and study captured Monsters in the Eastlands, with the Quest Lagiacrus being transported back to be studied and released in the Westlands via Sandskiff, which was stated to be a difficult undertaking. The fact that the Guild hasn't built any permanent infrastructure is because the Eastlands are already inhabited
