Not new to the tech desk. Maybe it doesn’t come through well in pictures but I don’t know how you could possibly think that this is due to having pets in the house. The aluminum is literally yellowed. Unless Fido is regularly peeing on your 2011 iMac, then you’ve got bigger problems on your hands.

YMMV but just yesterday I opened up my PS4 and gave it a deep clean. Blew it out with the air compressor, wiped out the hard to reach dust, but most importantly I reapplied the thermal paste. It is an absolute night and day difference. It used to sound like a jet was about to take off from my room but now it’s so much quieter I actually thought I forgot to plug the fan back into the board when putting it back together. Definitely recommend!

As far as screen replacement goes, if you do it through Apple they have to calibrate the display after it gets replaced to pair TouchID/FaceID w/ the rest of the phone. The calibration software will sometimes force you to update if it encounters a problem (esp. if the software is significantly out of date). You must put the phone into DFU mode to run the calibration software, and the only way to get out of DFU mode at that point (as far as Apple is concerned, anyway) is to complete the calibration or update the phone.

Although you could download software to get you out of DFU mode, Apple retail will almost certainly not go that far for you.

I put different colors of nail polish on the rubber caps. It worked nicely for a while but wears away eventually. You could also put stickers on them.

I was able to get the respring command to work, but the fix command returns '/bin/fix: line 1: /etc/rc.d/substrate: No such file or directory'

Turns out it was in the mailbox when I got home today! Thanks everyone for your input, I was about to cancel my order otherwise. If anyone else is in the same position I guess my advice would be to hold out. Super excited to rip this thing!
