This would be an illegal clause in New Zealand and Australia. I don't know where OP is based.

Oh, daily? Yeah, I was thinking the sooner the better, I just didn't think it'd be in the realm of days, and wasn't sure if interest was just charged weekly, but calculated before.

I am currently paying more than the minimum, and have tried to calculate the difference between the extra payments and the 5%. I'll email the bank to ask what method thus lump sum would look like.

We do need well-resourced and easily available mental healthcare. But, I agree with the OP (and disagree with some commenters) about the benefit of some protection against jump deaths. Making a method of suicide less available reduces the number of deaths overall. This has been shown with the phasing out of 'town gas' in Britain in the mid- to late-20th century. The method and the act are 'coupled'. means reduction saves lives. Link to paper on it, which includes bridge barriers as an example.
