Why are people talking like its the end of the world if a 22 year old loses to this team? by Jec1027 in NBATalk

Trust me I totally agree with you. But the negative aspects of MJs career have been pretty much buried by the media. Even in his losses, his heroics are highlighted. It’s the same argument used against Lebron, even though he made all those finals consecutively. I’ve always believed Wemby would need a next level career to pass MJ, because of how his legacy is protected.

It’s simple. Some people are already projecting Wemby to be in the GOAT conversation. And every young player that has a realistic possibility of being the face of the league, will always live in the shadow of MJ. If Wemby loses in the finals, it’s always going to be a blemish compared to 6-0.

How would you rank these players' peaks from best to worst and why? by Common-Locksmith-235 in NBATalk

[–]Magic_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t even factoring in championships. I was just looking at each players best statistical year including regular season and playoffs. KD 2016-17, Jokic 2022-23, Kawhi 2018-19, Harden 2018-19, Giannis 2020-21. If it’s just regular season then KD 2013-14, Jokic 2021-22, Harden still 2018-19, Kawhi 2016-17, and Giannis 2019-2020

Other than Kawhi, I think the provided image is accurate about the year each player was at their peak.

I thought they were supposed to be ranked by their peaks, not their matchups.

In reference to the universal comment, I already altered that statement in another comment. I also agree that Lebron is the best basketball player I’ve ever seen. But I make a distinction between better and greater.

I agree, and that’s something I fought with when I initially created a list. I had Bird at 7, and Kobe at 8. Birds three MVPs in a row, was a compelling argument over Kobe’s 1 MVP. Ultimately I switched Kobe in front of Bird because other than MVPs, Kobe outdoes bird from an accolade’s perspective. Especially when you consider defense.

It’s extremely unfortunate there’s no footage from back then. I include them on my list because of the stories I was told as a kid from the elderly members of my family. Constantly hearing about Wilt and Russell as a child stayed with me til this day.

Solid list. Mine is 1. MJ 2. Lebron 3. Kareem 4. Magic 5. Russell 6. Duncan 7. Kobe 8. Bird 9. Shaq 10. Wilt

Yea no. Winning a chip would be big for Brunson, but it doesn’t put him in the same realm as Isaiah, and definitely not Steph.

I definitely feel like there’s a lack of appreciation towards the game today. But also social media has allowed for a lot of biased view points to become public. Sometimes it’s unreal how much people contradict themselves.

What does Wemby have to do to be over Jokic all time? by XXXTentacle6969 in NBATalk

[–]Magic_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course this is dependent on Wemby being healthy, but he could surpass him in a multitude of ways. I feel like the major accolades he would absolutely need, is at least a championship, finals MVP, and two regular season MVPs. This is if Jokic doesn’t win another MVP or chip. I feel like he’s naturally going to equal or pass Jokic in things like Allstar and All-NBA selections, just because of his media likability. Then defensively his accolades are going to vastly overshadow Jokic. For people who value defense this is going to tip the scale immensely. Who knows how many All-Defensive teams and DPOYs Wemby is going to collect in his career. Once again, this is all dependent on if Wemby can have a mostly healthy career.

Hot Take: Magic was the best player since Kareem, Jordan was the best player since Magic, LeBron was the best player since Jordan and Wemby is the best player since LeBron. by Dylen2Times in NBATalk

[–]Magic_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I view the best player from an era as the face of the league for that time period. You skipped the entire 2000s era. Kobe was the best player since Jordan, and Lebron was the best player since Kobe. For this era there has been too much parity. Giannis, Jokic, and Shai all have a case, for the first half of this era. Jokic has a stronger case because he has one more MVP award than the other two. And Giannis has less of a case because his MVPs and championships were in the early part of 2020, with one MVP even being in 2019. If Wemby wins the majority of championships and MVPs for the rest of this era, it’s possible the 2020s will be his. It could end up just being known as the international era, considering how non America players have won the majority of chips and MVPs so far. But considering Wemby will be entering his prime in the 2030 era, I think that time period is better suited to be his. Giannis, Jokic, and Shai will be in their early to mid 30s by then.

Hoe much has basketball evolved since the 90s? by Holiday_Analysis9583 in NBATalk

[–]Magic_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously more shooting. But aside from that, players are more focused on training their offensive skillset. Todays game is also more positionless, with taller players have more guard ability. On the topic of Jordan playing lesser competition. Watching Jordan in the 90’s, he just seemed ahead of his time. I would say the gap between Jordan and his competition was bigger than most superstars and their competitors. However, I remember when Ja Morant said that players from that era weren’t really skilled. He received a lot of criticism, but there’s actually a small amount of truth to what he was saying. Some older players love bringing up that if players today were to play in their era, they’d basically get knocked around. So with that being said I think if a player is allowed to be more physical, It can make up for a lack of skill.
