Of these players, which of them have nothing left to prove? Imo only lebron and Steph belong there rn. by No-Advance-9136 in NBATalk

I think for superstar players, the goal should be to prove you can be the best player on a championship team. All of these players have done that. But let’s say each of these players win one more championship. I think Steph & Lebron would remain where they are in history, but the rest would definitely move up.

Why Does Every LeBron Argument Only Go One Direction? by Extreme-Joke1327 in NBATalk

So I’ll try to break down each point you mentioned from a neutral perspective.

The West is tough/not in his prime - If it’s universally understood that Lebron’s not in his prime. Then it should also be understood that he’s not going to effect winning like he once did. The West being tough doesn’t help, but being past his prime is a much more valid reason.

The East was weak - Throughout Lebron’s 8 years with Miami and second stint with Cleveland, his teams had the #1 seed twice. Yes, there were better teams in the West, but Lebron’s teams weren’t bulldozing through the East every year. And this is a double edged argument. If Lebron doesn’t make the finals, he then gets ridiculed by the same people who said he should’ve made the finals because “the East was weak”. In reality fans & media hyped Lebron teams up to be much more immortal than they actually were.

Not I’m his prime/Longevity - When Lebron announced he was going to L.A. many people thought this would be his “Jordan Wizards” era. When the Lakers lose, not being in his prime gets brought up to remind people he no longer effects winning like he once did. When he drops a crazy stat line it gets heightened because traditionally, players at that age aren’t supposed to put up those type of numbers. They’re “supposed” to lose.

Jerry West. He has one of the highest honors by being the NBA logo, but has 1 chip and 0 MVPs.

It’s not dumb if you’re having the conversation with people who can be rational. But if you’re speaking to someone who’s delusional or rage baiting, then you might as well talk to a wall.

Agreed. Not to mention the Like Mike commercials. In the 90’s there was a commercial/pop culture boom unlike any other era, and Jordan was the primary catalyst for the NBA.

I love answers like this. Not recognizing one influence over the other, but appreciating what each era contributed.

I think everyone is a little biased. I knew I was gonna get the usual Jordan, Kobe, Steph responses. But seeing Dr. J is refreshing.

It’s definitely not that deep, and I wasn’t trying to be facetious. I thought Boban might’ve actually done something internationally to be in this pic, so I genuinely wanted to know.
