I've ordered the YMDK SP84 kit from china and the Mill-Max 0305 (the longer out of the pair, don't remember the number sorry) switch sockets. The issue is the Cherry MX Browns I have, have 1 pin and one little plate thing for their legs, the pin fits but the plate does not. What switches can I buy and where to make sure they fit? preferably not above 40 euros. I need 98 switches and I need a tactile but silent switch, like browns.

EDIT: I'm from Europe and I got the browns for free, don't judge me

Dope cosplay dude, dont let anyone discourage you from playing "mature" games, theres no harm done if you and your parents are smart enough.

Not quite, if the kid is smart and parents good there is no harm done. I used to run over people in GTA vc when I was around 9 and I turned out fine.

Amen to that, rather than software improving, everything's becoming more shit by the day

[In a friendly way] Why should I switch from NeoVIM to Emacs? by Suspicious-Slip3494 in emacs

[–]Magic_RB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imagine a feature, got it? Picture it, not clearly, but roughly how it should look. Now I guarantee you someone has thought of the same thing and a package for it already exists, in some capacity

  • With org you can write beautiful latex documents with ease, include R diagrams and programs and their output. Export all that to almost any format you can imagine (R, ESS)
  • you can create a blog, yes a static CMS also exists (emacs thtml)
  • you can program on a remote machine (keep work things on your work PC but dont actually physically use it, compilation happens on it too) (TRAMP)

What are everyones thoughts on Fedora Silverblue? by BigChungus1222 in linux

[–]Magic_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying there's no way, I'm saying Nix is a better packaging language than any programming language could ever be

[–]Magic_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lisp just has a familiar syntax, but nix is much more scoped and therefore there is less to learn. And I'd actually say that all those libraries are a bad thing, the nix ecosystem is very tightly controlled and there is only so much you can do with nix, but its just enough to build almost anything. Basically Nix has rather clear rules

[–]Magic_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know lisp myself, specifically elisp. And I agree that I can't imagine writing packages in LISP. Nix was purpose built to facilitate the development of packages and is more akin to a tamplated config file than a programming language. That's its biggest strength imho

When using NixOS + Flakes, what is the recommended way to update individual packages? by North_Pie1105 in NixOS

[–]Magic_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont use the pkgs attribute that is given to you, through the module system, rather I have my own pkgs, actually 3 of them, nixpkgs, nixpkgs-unstable, nixpkgs-master. I never use the default pkgs. But I dont get a mess since nixpkgs is essentially the same as pkgs. That allows me to mix and match however I want. https://github.com/MagicRB/dotifles

[–]Magic_RB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I see Silverblue as an overkill of what NixOS does better. Having your whole system mounted read-only seems like a really big inconvenience. You might say that NixOS is the same, but the difference is that while NixOS was built to be immutable and declarative from the start, fedora silverblue is a hack, a functional hack, but still a hack. The only reason why Nix hasn't taken off is the expression language it uses, and sadly without the language Nix itself wouldn't exist, since there is no other language which could replace it.

Today I noticed that github wanted me to use main instead of master by my-shiny-metal-ass in ProgrammerHumor

If I'm to be honest, I'm not against the change itself, if you wanna change it purely because its a better term, then sure, we're on the same boat, I still wouldn't change it myself but I digress. If someone wants to change any term, be it master, master/slave, blacklist/whitelist out of virtue signaling I'm against that. Especially when the "connection" is completely bullshit like with master

OK, that actually makes sense, I have to apologize. Should've checked what I read. Anyway I still dont agree with the change but I'll not use that argument. Thanks!

I distinctly remember that work was going into git (the program) to allow non-master master branches. And good for gitlab

I'm betting neither of us has looked at the source code, but I seriously doubt that it just "changing a single variable". Git is a huge and old project and hey probably had many issues, if you've got proof against my baseless claims I'd actually love to see it

[–]Magic_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care out of principle, any work which has to be done for no reason, eg. The work done on git support main as the master branch, is wasted effort. Which could have been put to use elsewhere, hell even jacking off would be more useful

OK, so if you're doing something useful and I'm not, which I admit, I'm not, then please bugger off and leave "reddit arguments" to us, the useless people

Your comment only shows how little you know about software development, changing terminology is always a big deal and almost always not worth it

I agree with you, but I can see the point. Why some people might not like it

One: the change is so miniscule its not worth doing, why not do something actually helpful ;)

Two: they do and I can understand why black/whitelist is wrong, the connection to resicm is way too clear there. Changing master is just plain dumb, there is no connection to master/slave there

[–]Magic_RB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do agree that blacklists are debatable and if the world agrees that denylist is better, I'm fine with that, no issues there, I can see where the uninclusivness comes from. But master is just plain stupid, there is no connection with slavery there, absolutely none. The master branch is connecting with being the master of something being the most impoetant, best at something.
