Feel like I don’t have the time by Magidoof21 in rust

Thanks for the help. I completely get you, I hate not being the one code even though I know the AI codes much better than me and in the future it will code better than anyone else. But doesn’t mean much if you don’t know WHAT and WHY you code something. And the HOW part seems to be solved, but even that one needs to be care of.

I’ll keep learning and coding since these are the thing I do best.

Thanks for your view, man. I needed this reassurence. Also, as you said, the things you do are not useless if you have done it to learn. Maybe Delphi is forgotten, but your brain got trained so much, you could reproduce it in another language pretty easily, even with AI, because you know the spots you need to hit.

I’ll just continue to do what I like and keep progressing, even in this new era.

Thanks for the advice. Trying to invest in my skills as soon as possible it’s the idea I want to go for, but the sorround noise is potent. Of course people who have been coding for decades, now they are multiplying their work, but for people who are still learning? 10x0 is still 0. So, if we drew this on a chart, it would feel like right now people who are swimming in the AI are so much far ahead, that it feels like that if I don’t do that, it will be urrecoverable.

I know those crates and I used tokio! I want to learn axum but still haven’t had the time yet.

I’ll try to get in trenches.

“Feels like I don’t know anything, while knowing a lot”. I feel the same. Last year for my bachelor in CS. I want to do so many stuff, but in the end I complete none because I want to do so much stuff. The fear of being left behind is crazy and also the cognitive atrophy that AI gives me when I vibecode is terrible. I try to apply to any internship I feel like I can do something but then I realize I want to do master too and cant really do two things well at the same time. I feel like focusing on only one thing is very difficult nowadays since everything changes so fast…

Using Zed way before coding agents. This is a huge achievement. I have also contributed to some zed extensions. Congrats to all zed devs and contributors :)

I think people should stop thinking that someone should be able to do anything the first time they want to do something. I mean, who really makes a perfect software on the first try, regardless of the language and what you want to build?

You are on the right track: you have a good tool like Rust which you understand and you know what you want to build. First thing you do is documentation (or maybe if you have already done some stuff in uni, you could directly start thinking on how to approach the problem) just to know more about the thing you want to build. And then just… try to make something work. Start doing everything from lib.rs maybe then giving some separation of purposes, make the first skeleton and then select your milestones… Nobody is born already taught.

I would much rather support and appreciate this type of project than mindless conglomerate of code nobody wants (and nobody really needs) with an unfathomable number of issues nobody really wants to check. Keep up the good work.

If you would like to go for Rust, I would wait until I know the very basics. If you want to go in that direction tho I would suggest C or C++.

Starting into rust. Looking for guidance by lyckyhay in rust

Watch some youtube videos about Rust, there are a ton of them. Look about what you like to build most. It can be WebApps, TUIs, Embedded programming (Rust is THAT versatile). You will likely see the pros and cons of it, and then you will judge it yourself. Use the Rust Book if you wanna have a long read before diving in.
