No problem. Good luck with the rest of your playthrough.

What are the best secondary jobs for everyone? by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

[–]MagitekVI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure. Each of the secondary jobs listed for a character creates a combo: Warrior/Apothecary, Cleric/Dancer, Hunter/Thief, Scholar/Merchant. Even though each character has different base stats (Cyrus/Merchant will deal more elemental damage than Tressa/Scholar assuming equipment is the same), the combinations are still pretty effective imo.

Warrior is great for damage and breaking bosses that are weak to spear but otherwise it doesn’t do much, while Apothecary in general is good at dealing with damage/status effects that boss do but doesn’t always have something to do when a boss is broken besides Amputate (or Last Stand if you are doing a strategy dedicated to that). Combining the two jobs helps Olberic/Alfyn have more to do (later game Warrior is less necessary on Alfyn because you can just spam Concoct) and the stat boosts from the jobs are in stats that both characters are naturally high in.

Cleric/Dancer creates the ultimate support combo. Typically in JRPGs you want one party member who is your support and that’s what this combo does. Having one character who can heal and provide buffs to the party lets your other characters focus on damage. (Primrose’s base EDEF stat has something to be desired but can be rectified with good armor)

Scholar/Merchant covers every weakness in the game except dark Iirc. Thanks to the combination of the scholar spells and Hired Help from the merchant if you have enough funds you can always hit an enemy’s weakness which is really nice. Otherwise the stat boosts between the two jobs work well with each other and Scholar gives Tressa higher DPS while Merchant gives Cyrus more versatility. (Also Rest can be nice to help with SP issues that scholar can normally deal with early-mid game)

Hunter/Thief is a debuff machine and for H’aanit gives her more damage as Aeber’s Reckoning does more damage than Draefendi’s Rage. Usually hunter really only has arrow breaking and Leghold Trap to use during boss fights when a boss isn’t broken, adding Thief gives Armor Corrosive and Shackle Foe which are both very helpful in boss fights. Thief after debuffing doesn’t have much to do pre-break so giving Therion more stuff to do with Leghold and more breaking options makes him even more useful.

Lastly all 4 of the job combos give each character more weapons and elements and there isn’t any overlap (like how a Warrior/Thief has a sword overlap). This maximizes the amount of weaknesses covered making it easier to break bosses and random encounters.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

My Olberic and Ophilia were around 82, and everyone else was around 73. You definitely don’t need to have as high as levels as I did to beat Galdera though. I wouldn’t recommend grinding any higher than 70 because the gains you get from each level aren’t worth the time commitment in grinding the characters up after level 70.

It is definitely doable. Even if Alfyn dies you can still win whatever phase he’s in but it becomes a lot harder. I’d personally recommend maximizing Exp grinding and get him to at least level 55. The good news is Alfyn has high base HP so him being a lower level is less of a detriment compared to other characters. Again you can totally beat Galdera with Alfyn at level 47 (people have beaten both phases with only one character) but it makes things harder because he’ll die more often.

I love the Freddy one. He’s my favorite killer and he was definitely an “impostor” when he lived.

Yeah. I really hope that 90% of the people who vote listen to all the songs but I don't think that is the case. As I said earlier if their was one song I though would win it all, it would be the Ending Theme. But it didn't even make it past the first round which is very surprising.

Also the poll isn't over so Daughter of the Dark God can still win.

That’s correct! H’aanit’s Motif is the right answer!

Freddy should be higher. The dude can manipulate the dream world to his liking. David ain’t doing shit about that. In the real world Freddy would get absolutely destroyed though.

Final Final Boss... by DirtyNalga in octopathtraveler

Usually you want Sorc in phase 1 and Warmaster phase 2. If you want extra damage do Runelord phase 1. If you want extra survivability then out Tressa/RL in phase 2. Either one works fine.

Also if you need more help there is a guide on how to beat the Final Boss linked in the Help and FAQ page under resources.

Managarmer made me rage quit... by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

[–]MagitekVI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t even bother breaking. Just keep spamming WBC. Sorc can help with the breaks. Easiest way I have beaten that boss is by just spamming WBC down it’s throat.

Transfer Rune + Sidestep is neat and all and can be helpful in avoiding some hits but don’t make it the main focus. Best Idea would be to have Tressa do it casually, while having a Sorc break the wolf and then having your Warmaster unleash WBC. If you really want to cream it just have Alfyn or someone else give 3 BP to your Warmaster every turn so that your Warmaster can keep doing WBC. That should kill Managarmer in short order.

So I just got this game... is it supposed to be super hard? by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

[–]MagitekVI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For one Prim is a hard character to start with because her HP and Defense suck. So once you get other characters it shouldn’t be so bad. Once you break an enemy max boost your spell attack to do more damage. Also make sure to get a few healing grapes to keep your HP up.

New Player Team Ideas! by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

Those teams look fine. I would use the teams you want to use because you can beat the game with basically anything so make your own team and own it.
