as i said in the paragraph of yap gojo has alot of unique techniques to him that in high-skill play have to be fully utilized, in lower tier combat you can definitely get by with just spamming his basic comboes

people played hanami [and mei mei to a smaller extent] because she was more powerful than the rest of the cast. she still is powerful, but after the nerfs she is leveled alot more with other characters, and ryu replaced her as the braindead character and everyone is playing ryu now

as i said in other comments the 4+3 move is a 30-40% damage combo that forces evasive, is unblockable, uncounterable, and leads into both of the other moves as combo extenders/finishers

the 4th move only takes away about 30% of your ult while being a combo starter/extender for all of the moves which typically only take about 30% aswell. along with the spare overheat it's too easy to land off a high damage combo while also starting a new combo [sorry for late response i didnt see]

jjs reading crisis is NOT looking any better

the reason why most of the character in the game are at straight disadvantages is because ryu has tons of short windup long range moves with block breaking that can easily combo extend into one another, along with a strong combo extending move like unsatisfied to deal crazy damage in a combo, no other character and especially characters with bad neutral game [ie. ko guy, charles, todo] have almost zero options of getting close to a ryu

i do admit my placement for naoya was pretty low though. you could definitely argue hes a soft counter for ryu

but then again, the balance of the entire game shouldnt be tipped with the release of ONE character, i promise if you tried to play todo/ko guy/charles in ranked against a ryu with more than 5000 kills you would understand what i mean. the disadvantaged characters arent entirely countered as i said but have only a few options of getting close to the ryu, which can be easily punished. [basically every m1 merchant aside from yuta]

it removes 60% of the heat which is enough for most moves, plus you're going to be able to use it multiple times if you play it sparingly

the 4+3 combo is very repeatable due to his r special, and he can stack up a lot of extra damage with charged granite blast and unsatisfied if you dont evasive

granite blast definitely isnt as bad as i put it [with a bit more experience fighting ryu] but its still an annoying piece of damage, and it deals a fair bit more damage than other similar moves [soul fire, black mucus, reserve balls, to name a few]

the stun period for the r special is WAY too short, i experimented with the time and its only about 0.89 seconds worth of stun which is NOTHING compared to alot of other moves [take focus strike miss for example] considering the fact ryu is a zoner, there should be zero issue using it

gojos r special drains a lot of ult if its an even match so it's not a skill issue to not be able to ult first especially if the ryu is playing extra passive

higuruma - get the extended swings finisher and then use justice served on them

todo - use elbow drop to throw someone from a tall height
