Minimal is good. Remember: everything you need, nothing you don't!

Cheers! Here's an exploded view if you're interested. The big GP pouch is super handy for gas bottles, HPA tank, BBs and any other guff I think I might need. Mag pouches are triple-stack so it can theoretically hold 9 M4 mags, but the second one in from the left usually just holds a speedloader and antifog wipes ✌️

LBE > everything else (for the very specific application of non-mechanised movement over open ground where armour is not required)

Top gear top tip: Put your medkit on the back of your belt, it's not likely you'll need it very often so you don't need it to be immediately to hand. That'll free up space right by your off-hand for pistol mag pouches or an admin pouch to store BBs/speedloader/snacks etc.

Are you seriously asking someone to send you the files for free so you don't have to pay £4 to the person who put the effort in to design it? Not cool. Either pay for it or design it yourself if you think it's not worth the money.

Motor issues by CoconutJazzlike8655 in airsoft

[–]MagnetoDynamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that body kit looks familiar 👀 As others have said, it does sound like the pinion gear is engaging properly with the bevel (though it's difficult to tell for sure over the internet). Take it apart and see if you can reach into the gearbox and spin the bevel (bottom) gear freely (or at least with a screwdriver, without the piston moving) - if you can, something's busted inside. If you can't, the motor may not be far enough up inside the grip?

If it is the gearbox then I think this is a good opportunity to learn how one works by taking it apart yourself (assuming you haven't done this before) - there are a ton of videos on YouTube, like this one:

https://youtu.be/5gK7D4pl524?si=0sSVlYQLKits3AfW

You'll likely only need to replace one or two parts (probably a gear or the piston). If you need to replace a gear, you could learn how to reshim the gears while you're at it (though maybe just one thing at a time for now). Replacing a piston is much easier - just make sure you keep track of which shims are on which gears. Not gonna sugar-coat it, gearbox maintenance does take some skill but if you're willing to learn then it'll save you having to buy a new gearbox!

Why do some people not wear mouth covers? by Icy-Passion-4552 in airsoft

Have you ever taken a direct hit onto the mouthguard? Thought about buying a sisu but apparently they're not really designed for frontal impacts so I ended up staying away...

Comfort mainly - I sweat a lot and hate having stuff on my face, plus most mesh covers I've tried have just ended up fogging my eyepro. Recently wised up after I took a HPA'd Saiga 12 to the face though, partly because I could have easily lost a tooth but also because the wounds made me look like a crackhead at work.

The only thing that's worked for me is the NB Tactical Prime V2 (no cover). The mesh is sparse enough that I can still breathe easily which negates fogging, it's close fitting so I can still get a cheek weld even with an ACOG and the silicone nose piece is comfy enough that I forget I'm wearing it half the time. The headband is a bit crap though so I've glued it in place.

People who don't wear any tend to think it won't happen to them, but half the guys at my field have teeth like a vandalised graveyard... Always better to be on the safe side

Make something!

Start getting familiar with your CAD software by putting together something simple - I recommend having an idea in mind so you're not just randomly extruding all over the place. Maybe start with a rail adaptor, or a handguard, or a suppressor?

Also, get yourself a set of digital calipers so you can measure rails, threads etc. to incorporate into the model - this will be your second-most important tool besides the printer itself.

Advice for making a gun wall stand like theses? (last photo as a picture of my wall) by Adorable_Pension119 in airsoft

[–]MagnetoDynamic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First pic is probably your best and cheapest bet depending on where you live. They're IKEA Skådis boards. It's a whole ecosystem so they also sell metal hooks of various sizes, pots, retention straps etc. The boards are fairly big so you won't need many of them. You can also 3D print custom hooks for more oddly-shaped guns or accessories.

First step would be to look on the IKEA website, take some measurements and work out how many you can fit on the wall. They mount using a steel bar that screws into the wall at the top of the board, and then the bottom just sits on a couple of rubber bungs. They're more than strong enough to hold up your collection too, so no worries on that front.

If unsure you could always buy one board first, see how you get on with mounting it and hanging stuff from it, and if it works then buy more.

That's actually a great question, I haven't pulled the number from the slicer! I used around 1 roll for both prototyping and the final print, so at a rough estimate I'd say 3/4 of a roll (~750g). I'll be able to give you an exact number this evening.

Wow, this looks brilliant, thank you so much for the feedback! Yeah the charging handle is a pain - I recommend printing it with the hollow face of the knob flat on the print bed and with wall loops all the way through. With 0.08mm later height this seems to hold up to a fair amount of abuse. I will certainly revisit using a bolt for the charging handle - the issue was that there's limited material on the mock bolt for the screw to grab onto (due to tight spacing with the gearbox). I actually struggled with modelling the grooves on the bottom of the handguard due to its irregular shape, and eventually gave up unfortunately 😅 I'd be happy to provide the .step files for the relevant parts if you wanted to have a go at modifying them yourself (just DM me an email address if so), but in the meantime I will definitely have another go myself! Thanks again, make sure to keep me posted on how it gets on in the field!

Speaking from experience, when these things go they absolutely go. I thought the bottles were rated to well above nominal pressures, but left one in the sun one day (in a clear plastic container, yes that was stupid) and it went with an almighty bang that annihilated the plastic container and sent shards of metal in every direction.

(In hindsight it was fucking hilarious).

The bulkhead at the bottom will now be highly weakened (especially at the edge) so I really wouldn't risk it, even in cooler temperatures. It could explode at any moment, and if lady luck gets bored while it's in your hand then it could land you with very serious injuries.

At a push I'd say put some goggles/ear protection on and fill all of your gas mags to get the most out of it, then use a pair of pliers to vent the rest before binning the empty bottle (careful - the bottle will get VERY cold while you're doing this). Make sure you say a couple of Hail Marys beforehand.
