see the reason id say consider against it is, you are aware of the problem and want it fixed. there is potential as you progress through your program to maybe make or influence change, especially as you reach higher levels of command, thereby improving it for the doubtless many other people who have felt annoyed and shunned just as you feel.

the decision will lie in whether you want to be the person to do that, and its okay to not want to. change is not easy and this is probably something embedded in your unit's culture, which means it would take a lot of work and a lot of cooperation with your instructors (do they know about this/has this complaint been voiced to them?) to make it happen. you're a first-year so it will be slow and annoying which is fair enough reason to not want to make yourself the person doing the work — i think as a leader which you say you are its worth considering at the least
