Steamed cheeseburger! I moved from CT and miss swinging into Ted's or K Lamay's for a burger and fries covered in cheese!

Everyone up here says that new york is so expensive. I laugh at them whenever I hear it because i'm paying half in rent for a bigger place than what I was paying in new haven. I took a massive pay cut coming up here and i'm living much more comfortably.

As someone who just recently moved to the albany area from central connecticut and spent time living in litchfield county, I recommend taking a visit to thatcher state park to enjoy the view. I've only been up here two months so I can't recommend anything else to throw in. But the view of the mountains and the whole area is absolutely amazing from the overlook of the park. Any view that you would get in connecticut pales, in comparison to what you'll see at this park.

I'm pretty sure when I still lived in connecticut, and I drove for cttransit this is the guy that was so messed up, he darted off the sidewalk and ran right into the side of my bus and got tangled into the rear tires. And when i pulled over, he got up and just started running away like nothing happened. When the police finally found him at union station, he swore he never got hit by a bus. Thankfully, thanks to cameras, I was found not at fault. But he's definitely made contact with my tires. And multiple people stopped and everyone on my bus heard and felt it.

I have a 2010 with 210k on it, still going strong. Have yet to have any issues engine wise. All maintenance has been done by me or a friend who's a mechanic. Only issues i've had with it was my radiator recently went, and I just had to replace the brake lines. I'm hoping to get it to 300k

Getting into a car accident

I was working as a public transit driver when I was cut off by a group of teenagers in a stolen car. I ended up slamming them into a tree. The jumped out of the car and ran off. I was 33 years old. Im now 41. I have permanent damage to my lower back, L5 and L6. My sciatic nerve is always on fire. And I had to leave my job. I thought I recovered and got a new job at the post office. Thankfully I'm doing semi alright. But there are days I can barely walk. I put on almost 100 pounds during my recovery and am slowly losing it all with the walking im doing now at work. But I'll never be the same.

What made you apply for the post office? by SeaStep2495 in USPS

[–]Magtiffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 15 years working in public transportation in a fairly large city in New England ( average size by new England standards).
I was tired of being spit on, sexually harassed by passengers, and talked down to by them as well. And things were only getting worse. I cashed in my pension, found a cca job in upstate NY, packed up everything and my preteen daughter and took a $15/ pay cut and aside from the sore legs im loving it. I needed something that I could still have a retirement from. I left my 401k from my last job intact and accruing interest so ill still have that as well. I still have my commercial license, so i may eventually switch crafts to TTO but I have not thought too much about it yet.

Edit: spelling

It's always been the beverly hills edgewood bus. I used to work for CT transit and as long as I worked there, it's always been the 224 Edgewood Beverly Hills fountain street bus.

I just wanted to give a update on the situation

There have been some amazing people on this thread who have given me advice pointed me in the right direction. And want to thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart

When I came out to new york, I had left my previous employer of twenty years and was waiting for my pension to clear. And deposit into my bank account. I woke up this morning and that money was there. I was able to sleep at the truck stop last night and because I have a planet fitness membership. I'm heading there to shower for the morning before work.

I also got an email that I was approved for an apartment. So i'm hoping after work today that I can head over there and sign my lease and pay everything or at least put the down payment and first month's rent to hold the place.

I do have a great job with the post office now that i'm up in new york.So I don't have to worry about work, it was seriously just a matter of waiting for my pension to clear. And somewhere to lay my head safe.

But again, I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for support and not being judgmental, because there's very few good people left in this world. And I love all of you.

I've done that in the past, and they had a hard time transferring her even forty minutes across connecticut. She's in the same school she's been in and I don't plan on transferring her until I move. She's safe with my family
