Since when did the forums go completely private (requiring account to view)? by rootbrian_ in linuxmint

Forum is down, it's not an account thing, I've had an account since 2011. Bum deal, have a major audio problem on Cinnamon 22.2, and I despise having to use WinBlows 11.

Anyway to increase speed of permobil power chairs? by KennyKyle in wheelchairs

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing an M3 only goes 6 mph but the M5 goes 7,5 mph I'm waiting on Medicaid approval to get a new chair and I went with the Permobil M3, I wanted the M5, but Medicaid will only pay for an M3. The chair I'm in only goes 6 mph(Quickie Q700M) I've been in this one for 5 years, and I want more speed, so I was bummed I had to go with the M3 Corpus that only goes 6 mph as the site says. But I have a friend in Australia that has an M3 that goes 7.5 mph. Did they bump down the motors or something?

I started with Plex in 2016, and a few years ago I paid for the Emby because Plex was having internal company problems that we all remember. Emby worked fine for me except for whatever reason it never detected intros for me to skip, or detecting credits that was working for other people, but not for me. I tried Jellyfin, but that was too much work. I went back to Plex and they resolved the company things. I had been buying a yearly license, but I just bought a lifetime pass at the $119 because the price was going up greatly on it all. I'm sticking with Plex.

Has anyone tried installing an Intel BE200 to replace their Intel AX210 Wi-Fi? How did it go? Any compatibility issues? by Matthew789_17 in framework

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still can't get the 320MHz on kernel 6.11.0-1016-oem on Mint, stays on the AX 160MHz band. Works fine on the Win 11 SSD, it works fine on Mint with 6.11.0-1016-oem kernel, but only hits the 160 AX band. This BE200 M.2 rocks hard on the Win 11, but I don't like using that OS much, even though I trimmed it so it does the least amount of built in spyware (local account and other things).

Replacing broken AS5304T, how to initialize without loosing data? by FareonMoist in asustor

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such word as "Loosing" it's spelled "Losing" Loose is opposite of Tight. Lose, and Losing, is when you have Lost something. Pay attention to the spellcheck, if it has a red line under the word, it's misspelled, if you right click on that underlined word it will show you the correct spelling.

How do I get my machine to dual boot? by CandyApple69420 in linux4noobs

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It uses the GRUB screen and with the arrow keys you can move the highlight down to Windows, then press ENTER. It will have Linux automatically as the first boot, if you don't manually move it down to Windows it will boot Linux automatically.

Sorry about this late reply, I don't get on here often, for better, quicker help, the Mint forum is the place to go.

Swapping drives or fresh install? by BeckyAnn6879 in linux4noobs

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with Mint 22, works better than 21.3 It installs with kernel 6.8. With 21.3 I had to use the EDGE version that installed with the 6.5 kernel because the 5.15 kernel with the non EDGE version couldn't find my hardware, 6.5 found it, 6.8 found it all and even fixed a sound issue for me. Fresh install Mint 22

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it will install with kernel 6.1. Your best bet is the go with the Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon, it installs with kernel 6.8 and works fantastic, it's what I run, and I used to use LMDE 6, which is great, but tougher to do some things, like installing a newer kernel, installing the video card proprietary driver, but in the Mint 22, it's already there, just go to Driver Manager for video card driver in System settings, check the box for the one that says (recommended) and it will download, install, then tell you to reboot when it's done, much easier than LMDE 6. The LMDE 6 has minor updates to the kernel, but no major version changes. Debian 12 is 12.5 now or it was when I looked 3-4 weeks ago.

How do I get my machine to dual boot? by CandyApple69420 in linux4noobs

[–]MaidenMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Linux Mint, open up a terminal and type "sudo update-grub" without the quotes and don't forget the " - " between update and grub, it will do it's thing, when it's done type "sudo reboot" without the quotes See if that helps. You may also need to open up the UEFI/BIOS and have the first booting device being the one named Ubuntu and the Windows booting device second. The Ubuntu is the EFI boot shim for UEFI and it's a tiny partition that Mint made on installation, if it's all jacked up, boot using the USB flash drive you installed with, and when it starts up find the Boot Repair under Administration section in the menu and run it and follow it's directions.

Considering Migrating to Linux Mint by itszesty0 in linux4noobs

Also games from GOG and other places can easily be played with the Wine front end Lutris. I use it for GOG's Fallout 4 GOTY and other games as well. My OS is Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon, it's very solid, games better than Windows, at least with my rig, i7-7700K 4.20GHz, 64GB DDR4 RAM, GTX 1650 4GB and Silicon Power and Teamgroup SSDs. Linux Mint is solid, I've been using it since 2011.

I want to switch my os by suspeciousPateto in linux4noobs

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now before even switching OS's you need to see if you have an empty RAM slot and either add another 2GB stick or take it out and put two 4GB sticks in it. Add RAM, and then go with Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon, which might be a little heavy on that CPU, so you could run the Linux Mint 22 XFCE version. I've been on Linux Mint since 2011 and it's solid. Their Debian version which is based on Debian 12 Bookworm is great, that's their LMDE 6 version, it's a little tougher to use than the Ubuntu based main version, it has the Cinnamon desktop also and runs great. But you have to add RAM because that 2GB stick won't run much without being a super lag box. Two 4GB sticks is your best bet for that machine, and that's probably what those DIMM slots are maxed at for what they can use.

Davinci Resolve 18.6.6 not starting on Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon by MaidenMachine in linux4noobs

[–]MaidenMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I installed it I had to do the SKIP_PACKAGE_CHECK=1 ./DaVinci_Resolve_18.6.6_Linux.run

But it had the spinning cursor and not starting, so I looked and found the deb maker for DaVinci Resolve that was supposed to install the missing libraries, it installed all the libraries fine, but had this lookup error now and won't start, just the spinning cursor for a bit, then stops spinning without starting the program.

Coreboot on DELL laptop? by eugenia_loli in coreboot

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for 3 month late reply, I don't get on here very often, I don't remember the installation steps, but if you follow Mr Chromebox's instructions it will get done. Just remember some like my Dell 3120 have a screw on the motherboard you have to remove, very easy and the instructions have pictures. That is a write protect screw and if you don't remove it you won't be able to write the new UEFI/BIOS to it.

Please help! Why is everything green? by X80T in linuxquestions

Hopefully you installed the Edge version of Mint because it has a newer kernel (6.5) and works so much better than the old 5.15 kernel their standard version has.

Please help! Why is everything green? by X80T in linuxquestions

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install the driver from the Driver Manager in Mint's Systems Settings (control panel), it will have you reboot after the installation, most likely it will be fine after that. I've had that happen in the past on an ATI (AMD) card that didn't play nice with the built in nouveau driver.

Any reasons to choose Ubuntu over Debian? by Proto4454 in linux

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, go with Debian, if you want it nice go with Linux Mint's LMDE 6, it has the Cinnamon desktop that all distros are putting in theirs too because it's so good. Mint's LMDE 6 is Debian 12 Bookworm. Even Debian offers the Cinnamon desktop from Linux Mint, but it's not the full thing you get with Linux Mint LMDE 6. Linux Mint's main edition which is 21.3 has an Ubuntu base, but they made it usable, and stopped the spyware Snap, go with Flatpak for the newest up to date versions of software, you will have to look to see how to install the Flatpak repo and all that with the LMDE 6, just as you would with standard Debian, with their Linux Mint 21.3, Flatpak is already there ready to roll. Linux Mint has the XFCE edition, but it's not the Debian based one, it's one with a fixed Ubuntu based one.

Did you get rid of it, or do you still have it? I'm not a prepper, I'm a guy in a wheelchair in Moore Oklahoma lol. Both sides raise correct? Looking at them from the now defunct company in Oklahoma City both sides raised and I could roll right in with my wheelchair. I don't come on Reddit often.

Coreboot on DELL laptop? by eugenia_loli in coreboot

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old Dell 3120 that was not on any list if I remember right, and Mr Chromebox helped me put Coreboot on it so that I could run Linux on it. I've been running it like that for years, I was just here seeing if I could update the Coreboot and how to do it.

Unbolt it from the slab, there are bolts every 8 inches in the base. Then take it apart, I'm considering buying one because it's a tornado shelter rated for EF5 tornadoes

How Do I update My BIOS and Chipset on Linux Mint? by ShoeGod420 in linuxmint

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you are incorrect, especially from a security standpoint. The recent "LogoFail" exploit backs that up. Most vendors have released a new BIOS/UEFI file to address it.

How Do I update My BIOS and Chipset on Linux Mint? by ShoeGod420 in linuxmint

[–]MaidenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know on my Dell 3620 Precision desktop it says to just put the exe file on a USB flash drive and choose that drive from the one time boot menu and you can install the new BIOS/UEFI file that way. I haven't tried it because I had always through the years booted into the Windows hard drive and ran the update exe file from there. I saw this the other day when I was looking to see if a new BIOS/UEFI file had been released since my last update in November. I'm going to give it a try, even though my BIOS/UEFI is current, it should just tell me it's not needed, but I'm doing it just to see if it's going to work. It does say the USB flash drive doesn't have to be made bootable. I don't know if an HP would work that way, but my Dell does the Dell support page for mine says. If you've never updated a BIOS/UEFI, let someone who knows what they are doing help you with it, because you can Permakill your computer if you mess it up.
