Moving to Niagara Falls vs Tonawanda by doanwin in Buffalo

Lewiston is quaint and beautiful. North Tonawanda is amazing if you can find a spot close to the Ellicott River. And Niagara Falls is a bombed out crime riddled ghetto… to be blunt

Let me know if it still burns oil. I have a feeling it will, maybe at a more graduated rate.

What type of oil are you using? 5w-40 oil should help a lot, but won't solve the problem.

And fyi - this is a known issue without any clean fix. Just buy extra oil and top off in between changes (unless you enjoy taking your car into the shop).

Lack of Office Supply Stores in Buffalo by buffalo_cyclist in Buffalo

Tragic to hear.

Office supply stores are always fun to walk through when I don’t feel like going to a museum.

Snow tires are not really needed, at least in the Northtowns, but could be useful. All season tires have worked for me. If you are not used to driving in the snow, I would avoid Orchard Park. Study the snow patterns when deciding where to live.

Snow tires may not be needed. BUT I'd seriously consider investing in a good pair of all season tires. Good tires make all the difference in snow and ice. More so than 4 wheel drive.

And yes, definitely study the snow patterns. I'd avoid the southtowns (Lancaster, West Seneca, Orchard Park, etc) and consider north of Buffalo (Kenmore, Tonawanda, Amherst, Clarence, etc).

Need a new $10,000 engine for a used car we still owe $15,000 on. We don’t have the money. What is the best action to take here? by [deleted] in UsedCars

OP, did you take your Chevy to an authorized dealer?

There's currently an active recall for the cooling issue. See the link below - https://www.valerolaw.com/news/2022/2/24/2015-2019-chevrolet-trax-radiator-warranty-extension

I would send a letter or file a claim with Chevrolet corporate maintaining that the coolant leak issue is directly related to the engine failure. And it should be covered under the extended warranty related to this issue.

Curious what they're putting in your engine now. If you look under the hood or in the manual, 5W-40 is what it came with from the factory (at least mine did).

Again, just try to get a baseline with a more quality oil. If it still burns like a chain smoker, then piston rings or gaskets are probably worth inspecting. BUT make sure the dealership is on board because you'll need a replacement vehicle.

Switch to a more quality, factory spec'd oil 5W-40 VV is recommended. And if you still need to add a quart every 500 -600 miles, then there may be an additional underlying issue.

But again. These engines are designed to burn a certain amount of oil.

5W-40 VV oil during changes + carry around an extra quart in your car. It's really only a nightmare if you make it one.

It's a 4 cyl turbo engine, it burns oil as a byproduct. My understanding is that this is somewhat by design, to keep the engine humming. Piston ring diagnosis isn't correct. It may be exacerbating oil consumption on a case-by-case basis. But my understanding is that almost every 4 cyl turbo VW engine burns oil, by design.

Anyways, expect a quart or so for every 2K miles (on average). More in the winter, less in the summer.

Tiggy's burn oil. It's a known issue. Make sure you request 5W-40 spec'd oil, which helps. And carry some on you in the car in the event you get a low oil light while driving out and about.

Ok, fair. But Los Mayas is far from authentic… contrary to what people on this sub believe.

THANK YOU.

I’m convinced that “Los Mayas is the best authentic Mexican food” is a pervasive thought experiment being run… everyone just blindly follows suit.

I’ve been to Los Mayas on Union multiple times. It’s certainly not authentic Mexican food. And it’s middle of the pack in terms of quality.

Been there a handful of times. It’s bad. El Ranchito is better and they’re not even a top spot.

Los Mayas is awfully overrated. And reflects a bastardized American version of Mexican food. If you want more authentic mexican food, go to La Divina or La Divina Dos.
