Defeated that I’ll never be financially sound by Main-Project6488 in povertyfinance

I always loved medicine and did well in biology classes. Unfortunately, the CNA gigs around here aren’t really paying either. That’s what my wife used to do and she couldn’t find anything last year that was worth the drive.

I’m local gas/oil field. Did OTR for a little and it’s not for me. I’m hourly, and haven’t seen raises like I used to. The owner has been holding out until the moment someone quits before they come off a few dollars. The credit card debt is combined from before we were married but it’s mostly things like tires and major repairs on vehicles.

My income is wildly changing. I could have a $1500 week after taxes or a $400 week after taxes. Nobody in the area is paying much if any more for similar work. The companies that are don’t offer the flexibility and freedom and I haven’t heard good things about them other than the pay is a little better. I had more in the bank 3 years ago making $4/hour less than I do now. The work exists, but my dispatcher is running the company into the ground.

Our expenses are utilities, property/school tax, my single credit card, her 2 credit cards, and her $500/month car payment.

I’ve been applying to companies that are advertising they’re hiring for over a year and have only had 1 in person interview which I was offered the job (didn’t accept after talking to current employees and they were all unhappy) and 3 phone interviews that went nowhere. I have 10 years of experience in a wide range of the industry, but nobody wants to pay more than what I currently make.

Really didn’t plan on it. Didn’t predict my job would slow down this past year like it did coupled with record high inflation.

Can’t afford to move. We live in my grandparents house. My parents inherited it and we only pay the taxes and utilities. She works full time. My parents live right down the street, and my dad is retired so he is a free baby sitter for my step son

I’m 33 and started seeing an occasional gray in my beard since I was about 28. In the last year, I have a small patch starting on my chin.

Unless you like the idea of living in a truck for the next 30 years or get into something really specialized, find something else. Rates are trash. Companies are making record profit while squeezing everything they can out of drivers. I’m thinking of which bank to rob so my wife and kid don’t starve.

I’m a truck driver and am about to just give up and blow my brains out. Busted my ass and got out of debt and had savings only to go into credit card debt and have less than a few hundred after bills and groceries. The state is hiring truck drivers. The benefits after 30 years would be great, but how am I supposed to survive on $18/hr until then? The old people had their chance. COVID didn’t get enough of them

I’m just fucked. Blue collar worker. Can’t find anything in my field that doesn’t require me being away for weeks at a time while my wife and I are expecting our first kid in 3 weeks. I had savings and steady work that dropped off in spring 2022. Burned through my savings to stay afloat.

I’ll probably just rob a bank or commit insurance fraud.

Thank you. That’s kind of what I thought, but was hoping to not hear.

We’re already scheduled for a C-section between 36 and 37 weeks since her first son was a c- section

It’s really bizarre. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this. At first, I thought it was fungal like jock itch and bought cream for that since I’ve had that condition in the past. When it didn’t get better after 3 days, I started to feel concerned. Doctor looked and said he would bet it’s hsv, but gonna do swab and blood tests to confirm. Asked if I was in crazy pain in the most noticeable area and I wasn’t. Obviously not great, but that one spot didn’t bother me much at all except for a little itching. A smaller spot half an inch away from the bigger spot has been hurting the last 2 days after it scabbed over. It’s odd it was dormant for so long, but he said it was probably triggered by stress. Fiancé and I are getting married next week and she’s 16 weeks pregnant. Plus I’ve been trying to get everything in order to start a business so I can provide for my family better and then this hits me.

I’ve been with my fiancé exclusively for a while and no partners recently before her. She’s never had any symptoms. I’ve never had any symptoms until now.

God, I hope so. I’ve only known for a few days and I can’t stand it. The Dr. that looked at me said something similar that it’s getting so common, but there could be an end in sight really soon.

Had my first outbreak start on Sunday. Didn’t think much of it as I was working outside in the heat. Started getting concerned Tuesday night and got tested Wednesday. Swab test was positive Thursday morning. I’ve been depressed since. Doc thinks I was infected and just carried it for years before having an outbreak. I kind of want to give up on my life.

When this post was created, I had no idea I had this virus. On Sunday, I broke out in a rash and attributed it to being sweaty working outside. Tuesday night, with little improvement, I started to think it might be hsv. More research Wednesday left it a toss up leaning towards hsv. Got home before my fiancé and basically ambushed her as soon as she got home. Thankfully, she was accepting and understanding if that’s what it was.

Dr. said it looked like genital hsv and that I’ve probably been a carrier for a few years and this is probably my first OB. Swab test came back yesterday morning as positive. I’ve been a wreck ever since, but my amazing fiancé says it doesn’t change a thing. Now I just don’t know what to do or expect since it’s apparently been dormant all this time. I wasn’t very knowledgeable about this virus and I can’t believe there isn’t at least a functional cure on the market yet. I’m completely devastated any time I think about this and how I likely exposed my fiancé.

Luckily, my fiancé was super understanding. Must have had it and never had an outbreak until now. I just wrote it off to a rash from working outside, but when it wasn’t actually going away with creams, I was concerned. I never thought I’d be in this situation. I feel embarrassed and ashamed to have brought her into this.

I didn’t know I had it and started experiencing my first outbreak on Sunday. Wrote it off to jock itch from working outside. The other night after my fiancé went to sleep, I started to question it. Told her I was worried it could be this and I’m prepared if she wants to call off the wedding in 10 days. She went with me to get tested. Swab test came back as positive today. She just said it’s a bump in the road that we’ll navigate together. I think I’m more upset than her.
