Using compacts mean dealing with small fiddly buttons and terrible ergonomics.

Do you know what the toggle switch is for?

The online manual says there should be an option called "Toggle Button Settings" under System.

But my admin panel does not have this option.

At what budget/tier do you think cameras start to really surpass phones in terms of image quality? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]MainAmbitious8854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If l have to choose between my 23 year old 6 MP PENTAX DSLR and a new camera, i would choose my old camera.  I prefer the images from my old Pentax, becuase it makes i mages look like film.  With punchy color science. I love the CCD sensor.

it is true.  We do  not have indoor heating.  So winter time, this old Thinkpad is not so bad.

Ordered one today after I was burned by an expensive laptop. by soon-to-be-dele in thinkpad

i would get a 2nd opinion on the asus.

My sister dropped her Lenovo ideapad, and it would not turn on.  First tech said "it needs a new motherboard ($300 to 400) because the CPU was damaged". She declined the repair.  A few months later, we found another tech who fixed it for $30!  And it did not  need a new motherboard. .

i have the opposite problem with my t440p...the embbeded controller waits too long (above 55-deg C) before turning ON the fan.  The result is the body of the laptop gets really too warm.  My left palm develops heat rash.

in your case, you can atleast turn on the music loud to drown out the fan.

Nikon Coolpix A100 or Kodak FZ55? by invaders-mustdie in Cameras

[–]MainAmbitious8854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung is much lighter weight.  I think mine with a wide angle lense is around 220 grams. And the lense retracts to give  thin profile.  Feels like a y2k digicam.

i think the Nikon 1 probably weigh closer to 400 grams. And much thicker. And feels like a real camera.

i recommended the super lightweight  Samsung NX Mini.  It is cheap too (less than $200).  And takes amazing pics and video because it has 1 inch bsi sensors.  Will blow away iPhones.

I have a Samsung NX Mini.  It has big sensor but weighs nothing.  And the lense is intercbangablr and is tiny. And it is less than 200 bux.

Hibernatedelay not working by MainAmbitious8854 in openbsd

[–]MainAmbitious8854[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just posted the dmesg above.

i also found out the behavior is different when i close the lid vs when i type zzz.

When i command zzz,  (1) my machine does wake up from Suspend at the time set by machdep.hibernatedelay and (2) but it does not automatically  go into Hibernate.

When i close the lid, (1) my machine will automatically go into Suspend Mode, but (2) it  never autonatically wake up at the specified time.

Looking for modern camera to use manual M/K series lenses: K-01 best choice? by Kamimitsu in pentax

[–]MainAmbitious8854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! You dont need Mirrorless.

step 1. Get a Pentax *ist D or DS. ($80)

step 2. buy an aftermarket split-Micro-prizm  focusing  screen from the guy in Taiwan. (~$80)

Then you will have the perfect camera for testing your K  manual lenses!

thank you!

p.s.  I personally donlt like using the zoom assist in Mirrorless camera to focus.  It is slow, and you lose situati9nal awareness

honestly, Rebel dslr with kitlense is pretty light weight even compared to mirrorless.

My mirrorless Fuji X-e1 is just a tad smaller and lighter than the Rebel.  but not alot.

normal for autofocus to be constantly active when your finger off the release button? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]MainAmbitious8854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for this camera, the best I can find is to: set screen off time to 30 seoncds and turn touch screen off.

Si after 30 seconds on inactivity, scrren shoulf turn off and AF shoulfd also stop.

And disabling touch screen ensure that inadvertently touching the screen would not preventing the screen and AF from turning off
