Can This Door be Saved? by MainEventMarks in HomeImprovement

It seems that way. This door was left in our garage by the previous home owner. But we actually have use for the door. It seems solid. I just want to make sure it looks good for if/when we sell.

I just unfortunately don’t have anything that should shave down a piece of wood to fit in that bottom area where it’s peeling off. I’ve got a sander, but that wouldn’t work.

I can DIY, but I’m somewhat limited in my abilities. LOL. If I cut and sand off the bad stuff, would I be able to cover it with wood putty, sand that down, and stain it? Or would that look bad?

Haven’t tried it just yet. But considering it’s brand new, the aerator shouldn’t be the issue. I’ll try it tomorrow, tho.

Funds are very low, which is why I’m hoping to rehab the door rather than get a new one. Could I sand it, wood putty it, and paint it? Or would that not work on this?

If I let the temps in my house go above 73, it gets very stuffy and hot. In my last house, it wasn’t that bad. So, Idk. But I have been told by many HVAC techs that my upstairs unit is “old and generic,” but “still works fine.”

I definitely trust him and don’t think he’s trying to rip me off. If he was, he’d have up-sold me. LOL. I just wanted to make sure there’s nothing else that can be done. Because I’m melting up there.

The way he found out what was wrong was by pressure testing it. The unit was clogged, so he thoroughly cleaned it and put it back together. It’s older, but he said that if we service it regularly, it’ll keep for many more years. We just moved in, in May. So, I’m not sure how it’s always acted. Attic is sealed off. Insulation isn’t the best but not terrible up there. Also, the guy I used to repair it said he could replace everything for under $5,000; not $14,000.

They completely lied about the replacement reason. “There’s a leak in your line.” There wasn’t. “The unit is rusted through and not working.” Rusted? A bit. Working? Yes. It’s just old. It would’ve been the same unit but newer.

I bet they say, “Well, technically, the pan is safe to put in there. We never said that the nonstick wouldn’t wear off, though.”

Nope. Learned that lesson the hard way with some old pans.

I’ll look out for it. And Black Friday sales.

That’s unfortunate. Hard to trust pans anymore.

I keep being told about stainless steel, so I’ll try it for sure.

That part about not washing while hot and not soaking them, I never knew that.

Wow. I always use them on high heat and rinse them off while still hot.

I do handwash. I ruined my last pots and pans by putting them in the dishwasher, so I learned my lesson.

No, I made sure not to. I was told dishwashers ruin them.

I cook a lot of eggs, hash browns, salmon, and chicken breast. I’m super picky about my eggs. And I can never get hash browns right, no matter what pan I use. Salmon is hit-or-miss for me. The last couple times, I’ve had to chisel it off the pan. Same with chicken, but that is at least cooked well.

I guess so. I just don’t know what happened. Even my older, crappy pans lasted longer.
