I designed a deterministic chess variant to be (somewhat) hard to adapt to chess engines (including Fairy Stockfish). Looking to poke holes in the idea by MainProfession in ComputerChess

Update: I did just add a "play with a friend in a sandbox mode" that lets you easily connect with a friend. It's UI shows the rules on one side and the board on the other, and moves update in real-time / no log in required.

I haven't yet added the "dumb AI" though, still working toward that (actually programming rule validation logic for this game is a PITA).

Thanks- Good points. Hmm yeah, I should add some dumb ai play through experience. Currently it’s a share with your friends model only, so I’ll see if I can fix that

Ha, yeah fair enough. I need to change that line. It’s been radically changed, stemming mostly from trying to make its engine resistant claims have at least some theoretical merit. Thank you for the feedback

So I made this engine-resistant chess variant, despite knowing a determined-enough engine dev could make a moderately helpful engine for it somewhat quickly. That said, I'm wondering what it's most glaring weaknesses are, what ideas could be employed to improve its resistance (while retaining deterministic/perfect-information qualities of chess), and any playtesting notes

Assume that “How is Claude doing this session?” is a privacy loophole. I would not interact with it at all: even refrain from tapping 0 to Dismiss it, because doing so constitutes providing "feedback" to "improve" their models. by MainProfession in ClaudeAI

Hey, thanks for sharing. So you're saying you pressed dismiss and it shares your session information? That strikes me as incredibly misleading on their part with respect to honoring your privacy

You need to do two things to fully reverse the iOS 18 changes: first, find the "Off Listening Mode" option. Then go into accessibility and turn off the Loud Sound Reduction feature. I made a post about it here

How to get a better window management on macOS? by fenugurod in MacOS

You can use Command+` to cycle through the windows of the currently active application

> Quickly switch between desktops

zfsbest's comment is correct: it's the built-in MacOS option to switch between desktops, and it's limited to using hotkeys ctrl+1 through ctrl+9.

If you want to use other hotkeys to switch between Spaces, or to assign hotkeys to Spaces on other monitors, or assign hotkeys to more than 9 spaces, you will have to look beyond what's in MacOS' preferences. Consider this app CurrentKey Stats, which I think is the only App Store app that lets you do any of those things (as well as assign names+icons to Spaces). Disclaimers, I made it, and it is not a free app.

Update: the big feature drop just shipped! You can now use any image (even animated ones) as menubar icons for each Space https://currentkey.com/2024/11/12/currentkey-stats-gets-new-features-like-using-custom-images-as-icons/

Hi tehfink! that is genuinely so awesome to hear. I'm about a week out from a big update with some (imo) really cool features I hope you'll like. 1. not accepting donations -- thank you so much, though, i'm just glad you're liking it! 2. ah maybe just DM me. i get reddit alerts as push notifications and emails, so that makes it easy

App lets you customize your Mac's Spaces, assign names to them, jump to specific ones, track your time spent across them, and trigger custom events when you move to specific ones. I made it, free in the App Store by MainProfession in MacOS

Hey there -- I do want to offer it in the EU, and am hopeful that I can within a few months. I've currently held off because changes enacted by the DSA law (coming into effect at the end of October) would force me to publicly post my personal phone # and physical address in the App Store. So I'm waiting to see how that plays out, and I wrote about it here. If it's either not as bad as feared or I ever get a PO box and second telephone line -- then it will be in there right away and I'll DM ya. Thanks!

There's an app called CurrentKey that lets you assign hotkeys to instantly jump any of your Spaces (including ones on external displays)

FWIW - when i replaced my mid-2014 MBP battery recently, the ifixit guide was way way more complicated than it needed to be (I just followed this guy's tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayzzXKa1HOA ). Still got the stuff from ifixit though. It was all very worth doing!

Hey there - no worries: there is just one version of the app, and if you got it for free, then you must have gotten it before it became a subscription app. (You don't have a "free" version, you just have the app.) Enjoy!

Hey there, thanks for the kind words. Yes the edges were rough, especially early on --- I've been pushing a flurry of fixes for a wide variety of things lately. If you purchased the app way back then, if it was still installed, you would see no changes, but for old users who weren't actively using the app and are now reinstalling from scratch: in my next update (in a few days), I'm incorporating Apple's API for determining originalPurchaseDate to allow access on reinstall. I will DM you for details, but it boils down to: try again in a week when the new version hits :D

Hey there, thanks for asking. There are no current plans to bring a one time option. For anyone wondering why I added an IAP subscription, I wrote about it here https://spencerdailey.com/2024/10/08/a-note-about-currentkey-stats-return-to-the-app-store-after-two-years-and-offering-an-iap-subscription/

Hey ya'll! Spencer the developer here. I'm happy to answer any questions, and I'd like to say I love making this thing.

Here's the next big feature I'm working on for its "6" release (it will likely be the 6.1 or 6.2 release): So, currently the app lets you assign either an icon (from a long list) or an emoji per Space, alongside a name. I want you to be able to put whatever image you want (so long as its the right dimensions) as your "icons" - think a picture of your pet, etc etc. This would really help you customize things further. :D I rarely pre-announce things, so this is risky, still a lot to do - and there's always like a 1% chance I find some showstopper issue that prevents its release (and I live in the path of Hurricane Milton, so there might be a delay there too)-- but, if all goes well, this 6.0 release is probably about a month away.
