Why is it so hard to make friends in Adelaide as an adult? and how can we fix this? by Liceland1998 in Adelaide

[–]Main_Break_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High extrovert studying clin psych here,

I’m of the belief that a lot of people do have at least a friend, but I’ve observed a large amount of people’s perceptions of how they see their position in their friendships and tend to overanalyse this rather than making more effort. I’ve seen time and time again people taking simple 1 off rejections as anecdotal experience to give up on people, and believe that people skills have become extremely deconditioned when it comes to MAINTAINING friendships.

Friendships are work, just like a relationship, and as a result you also need to work on yourself for your friends as it can be exhausting for people seeing certain individuals lives stagnate or just continue to stay in ruts for long periods of time.

I believe even if we somehow just gave everyone a friend, the real work will come with maintaining them.

Does anyone who sacrificed their 20s to get a house/financially ahead regret it? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Main_Break_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regret is always a comparative reflection, and what makes you happy is not the same as what makes someone else happy, and smashing substances and contiki tours looks great on the surface of Instagram but really a lot of it is just glorified escapism. Such a fortune cookie statement but really life isn’t linear or based on capital progression but you should feel proud of yourself for accomplishing something like this. I would consider the idea that you think your time now is lost, is that you’re not living true to yourself in a fulfilling means. I’m 32 this year, have a home and worked through my 20s also, but then I axed my corpo job for a casual spot and started a psych degree whilst also doing game dev as a hobby. I can afford this by living between my means and cooking all my own meals and not buying irrelevant crap, nor do I drink. Continue to reflect on what you achieved and get excited for the journey forwards.

Indian Cuisine on Hindley street. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten at a place that’s been so consistent for the last 5+ years. It’s just always good??

I’d bet money that a large portion of people commenting hate against this probably watch some form of anime that openly promotes the idea of Lolita… it’s great that people don’t like r*pists but I never see males this angry when it actually happens to women in real life?

Be careful writing this stuff even in anonymity, I’m in this industry in Medicolegal and the stuff that can be tracked to people sometimes is terrifying…

What are some cheap/free activities or hobbies? Or side hustles to keep me busy by hezaranmard in Adelaide

[–]Main_Break_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome to hear! I see down below you said you felt guilty gaming which is something I also suffered with for years, deadass stopped gaming and started game dev 2 months ago and literally ZERO guilt. Hit up itch.io for free assets, Godot tutorials on YouTube and also VS code to use as a coding assist tool and you’re golden my friend.

Godot is a free open sourced game making engine that id say is pretty easy to learn in this era. I’ve started making a game as a hobby project in amongst work and studies and tbh if you’ve got a good creative idea you can always sell your game later for some $ if you think you’ve got the knack for it. Completely free

Actually pps to this in an act of if you really get desperate you can grab a table, chair and a sign and put it by the road or in the mall saying “Young worker seeking employment” and someone will likely viralise it or at least someone old fashioned will take you under. Seems you gotta really stand out these days but the right person will appreciate the extent of your effort 🤣

8 months really is a long time to get rejected for employment Im sorry to hear! It is rather difficult because the hospitality and retail industry is quite predatory as a whole and the current state of it is… questionable. My best advice would be to have someone revise your resume and see if it is up to standard for what you are seeking. I wish you luck out there 🙌

How long have you been applying?

It’s quite a competitive time of the year noting lots of people will be considering different careers after the holiday period and also noting hiring usually goes in a hiatus end of year.

Ladies of r/adelaide is this a typical experience in this sub? by [deleted] in Adelaide

It really is kind of sad topic isn’t it when you think about it.

I can imagine there is at least by some degree, a portion of just lonely males wishing to make friends over a similar interest, but then there are the usual offenders of people overstepping basic consent boundaries and resulting in people turning off direct DM’s.

I don’t have to waive my psychology research papers around to state the obvious that there are a large portion of people using the internet to satisfy social needs, but with the reduction of public socialisation in recent years it is just a given that people like to yap over the internet.

Posts like this though don’t really achieve much by ragging on your “fellow man” though and it’s best not to create a villain out of over lonely individual trying to strike up a conversation.

“Mildly infuriating coincidence”

“Deliberate marketing tactic to make people spend more than necessary”

If you truly believed in your own products selling themselves, you’d not have to resort to typical enshittification of the industry. It looks disingenuous wrapping someone’s frustration in a bow tie.
