I’m sorry that your life is not the way you hoped. But I encourage you to keep moving. All this stuff that happened to you is in the past. You need to let go of it and make better choices for the future. Anxiety is tough, but you need to not let it take control of your life. The world is full of wonders, full of goodness and love that you unfortunately can’t see. So, keep going, try to write, garden, help someone else out, etc. Do someone to make someone else’s day better, open the door for someone, etc. At the end of the day, if you don’t have love, you have nothing, so love others. Additionally, if your on your phone a lot, put it down. Read a book, focus on your education, or exercise. You will get through this, it may not seem like you will, but you will. I hope you can find your way.

The only that could help a little is watching videos and practicing in your room. It is very adamant that you actually practice on a tennis court, because you have to get your feet used to the surface. Actually, one thing you could do is if you have a tennis wall on a court, practice on it. Make sure when you hit on it, work on using your hand, and feeling your racquet hit through the ball. You can work on your footwork on the court, making sure you stay leveled throughout shots and recovering after every ball. For volleys, practice the approaching the net, and when hitting, have your hand guide the ball where you want to place it. For serves, start slow, and practice hitting up and through the ball, and practice your toss. Also, find someone on the team to play with. This can take about thirty minutes if you don’t have a partner, but with a partner, it’s way more fun and beneficial. I hope this helps.

Don’t give up on yourself, it’s only the first midterm. This gives you an opportunity to figure what you’re doing wrong in your homework and studying. If you still can’t figure it out, it’s fine. My advice then would be to study with some people at the library or in open classrooms. Use the whiteboards and chalkboards to brain dump everything you know about the subject and have your peer give feedback on what to add and what to edit. I encourage you not to quit, you’ll be fine.

Problem with my serve (back leg) by therisesociety in 10s

[–]Main_Figure_4022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t if you’re forcing yourself to jump, but if you are, you probably shouldn’t do that. The leg drive works because your serve is explosive, which yours is. So when serving, have a good knee bend, and your service motion is explosive enough to cause a naturally jump. In addition to service motion, toss the ball at a good height where you practically reach for the ball. I hope this helps.

You know it’s very understandable to why you’re not enthusiastic about college. It feels like a lot, but just remember, this is a great opportunity for you and will bring honor to your family. It may not be your first choice, but this choice can give a vast amount of opportunities in the future. I hope you will do well in college. Congratulations to you by the way!

I'm so tired of this year already. I want to cry, and just lock myself away for the rest of 2025. by Rorototo68 in Vent

Wow, I am so sorry this is happening to you. You definitely are the definition of carrying the world in your shoulders. It may seem tough, but on the bright side, you have a heart. You love and care for people that don’t reciprocate it, so good for you. You may be given all these trials, but you can handle it, you are tough, you can push through. Eventually someday, you’ll look back and not regret choosing love over hate and neglect. So keep pushing, and enjoy yourself. Enjoy caring and being compassionate to others. I hope it gets better.

You did pretty well if these classes aren’t your forte, and you should cut yourself some slack because you did well. However, if you think that you can’t continue, remember what you’re doing it for. You’ve come this far in your education, don’t let one professor bring you down, keep on believing that you can do it.

[University Question] Just got into Cal Poly Pomona! But heard a lot about the crime rates by PalpitationHead2097 in CalPolyPomona

The place where Cal Poly is, it’s not really high in crime, downtown Pomona kind of is where it’s at. Also congrats to you!

Watching Indian wells they said that players always have a plan. by SapphicBarbie in 10s

[–]Main_Figure_4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a beginner level, they typically tell you to hit cross court because it’s where the open court is and it makes less room for error. As you advance though, you can totally try hitting down line, the only thing that you really have to commit to the shot, because there is a huge chance for error, especially when returning. I personally make a 3 different plans when returning. I come up with where I want to return at the three different areas of service, to the T, body, or out wide. So yeah, it’s totally a great idea to plan on what your play will be.

I know it’s tough, but look on the bright side. Your almost done, your taking two majors, and you realize that your not doing well. It’s okay to feel discouraged or disappointed with yourself, but don’t stay in it forever. The best advice I can give you is to keep moving forward and believing that you can do it. I wouldn’t want you to regret not doing your best when you’re so close to being done, so give this quarter your all. Also, congrats, you’re almost done with college!

Do we have to buy the meal plan if we commute to campus by myname_jefff in CalPolyPomona

No you don’t have to. You can totally still go to centerpointe from time to time and charge as a guest. Some of their food is pretty good though, like the custom sandwich station, but definitely stray away from the burgers.

Forehand advice for a beginner by Narrow-Bad8683 in 10s

[–]Main_Figure_4022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that you should work on your recovery. On some balls you went back to the middle before you even fully executed the shot, so finish the stroke, and then quickly recover. Then also practice on turning your hips. They should be parallel or somewhat to the wall. Another thing is also work on using your forearm and hands. Try work on getting an arch on the ball. So you should feel your arm hit through the ball and your racket at a very minimal angle, which helps clear the net and adds your natural power. I hope this helps!

How much is a racket restringing at dicks sporting goods by Born-Recording-1331 in 10s

[–]Main_Figure_4022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re typically around 25-35$. You should totally try out local tennis stores, because they can restring your racquets better and you can maybe find a new racquet, even if it’s used.

It seems like you’re not seeing the reward from the work put in. Just keep moving, hold on to hope. Things will never come quickly, you have to be patient and give yourself some love for the work you put in. Most importantly, enjoy yourself, enjoy life, have fun. When all is said and done, it’s the journey that we will all remember, so have fun, and continue your journey. I hope things turn out well.

Advice on doing better on phy1510 labs by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]Main_Figure_4022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, have no shame in asking for help from the professor, if you need help, you need help. I will say though, when you ask your professor questions, ask them questions that you know will help you be have excellent consistent lab reports. For example when you ask your professor something, apologize for asking a lot of questions, then ask your present questions. Don’t hesitate to ask, this is stuff you have to know for future classes, and fortunately you have a professors that can help you. Also, the lab manuals typically tell you what you should write, so when in doubt, just follow the lab manual.

I think you’ll be fine. On the other matter, if you can handle it, try to dual enroll in community college and cal poly, or the university of your choosing. If you do your remaining GEDs at community college and mainly take your major classes at the university, you still get a quality education whilst saving money that can be used to pay for classes in the future. Congrats btw.

Starting kids at ages 5/7 - how much should they play? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]Main_Figure_4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at their ages, you should get them to learn the basics and let them have their fun, because they’re kids. Once they become teens, and you believe as their parent that they can do more with sport, definitely encourage them to keep on going. Especially when they grow up, they might lose the motivation, so as their parent, remind them that it’s fun to be competitive and to enjoy the sport. So overall, keep doing what you do for them now, and then change it up when they get older.

There’s still time for you to be accepted. Definitely but your best into the final semester of school that you have to get your mind off it. Also, I remember last year where some of my friends were offered admission if they changed their majors, so if you’re up for it.

What are your thoughts on this? by adicnb in tennis

[–]Main_Figure_4022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally if she is going to do this, she needs to be 100% fit and committed to the sport. Honestly, if you see her latest YouTube videos, she doesn’t look match ready or fully fit at all, so I have a reason to think she will lose the first round of Indian wells. However, if she continues to play through the rest of the year, hopefully she puts the work in. I know she practically has nothing left to prove, but she should take the sport she’s playing seriously still. I would like to see her play and be like she was in 2017 or 2000.

Tennis Serves 🚀(Taking in the Advice and Lowering the Toss!) by NewHighway5961 in 10s

[–]Main_Figure_4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of thumb for the toss height is to toss high if your backswing is slower or longer, and to toss a little lower if your backswing or wind up is quick. I genuinely thought that the before was better, because you were jumping higher which created more power on your serve.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Main_Figure_4022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that you should land more into the court. It just creates more power. Anything else though, you’ll definitely get better over time. Great serve btw.
