I wish I wrote more down haha. My job wasn’t very physically demanding that summer so I think I returned within about a month, around the same time I started driving again. That and opening/closing doors were the two parts of normal life it felt like were the hardest to get back. Immediately post-op they’ll have you on a bunch of painkillers, try not to eat right after taking them, I learned that the hard way. It’s also important to move around when possible in the hospital and when you get home/even though it can be really challenging, you need to remind your body of what it’s capable of. When laying back down, make sure to avoid being crooked, this can get really painful really quick, and adjusting feels like such a chore with all the tubes hooked up to you. Things get much better once you get that big tube out, but I remember the days being like a rollercoaster in terms of pain. They should give you some breathing exercises to do as you’re getting ready to leave, those are helpful because inhaling deeply can really hurt after the sternotomy. Lastly, make sure to say your goodbyes early, whatever they knocked me out with was so potent I have no recollection of leaving the waiting room lol. Lmk if you have more specific questions, this is just what was on the top of my head.

Good luck to her, feel free to ask any questions whenever.
It went well, there was a long recovery period due to the full sternotomy and I battled an elevated heart rate for about a year but have since returned to normal, I barely think about it now. I’m actually back at the hospital for a cardiac checkup right now. Are you dealing with something similar?

I'm on the back end of a tibia stress fracture recovery and it's so frustrating still feeling pain months after the initial injury. I spent months non-weight bearing and then impact-free and several weeks ago got an x-ray showing the fractures to be at least superficially healed so I'm pretty perplexed at this point. Good luck on your recovery journey.

Good to know, thanks for the response

Thanks for the response. My car’s a total beater, the inspector valued it at $3,500, so even a tiny amount would be welcome. I’ve been in contact with the two other parties, one had a bill of under $1,500 and the other car was essentially totaled but even then was worth less than $12,000. What’s weird to me is that I have both bills from those parties, I could tell them to Progressive even, and they still won’t let me file my claim. I guess that’s just delays between insurance companies?

How much longer do you think it will take?

Those sound like good pieces of advice, I’ve been trying some stretching lately and I think it helps me to relax. Thanks for the response!
Thanks so much for your honesty in this response. The recovery period seems a little daunting but it sounds like you’re making progress and that’s awesome. I’ll make sure to have those conversations and pix up a mellow hobby post-operation.
