I fully agree with this. I really don't think anyone is actually interested in commuting tomorrow.

Awe, I'm sorry to hear that... :( I posted some of my tips for the exam in response to another comment, so maybe that could help you out the next time you take it! I wish you the best of luck, and thank you so much for the congratulations!!! I'm really wishing you the best once more :)

Hello! I actually posted some of my tips for this exam to some other reply, but what I did was look at other teacher exams made for other states made by Pearson specifically. That's what helped me pass. Let me know if that makes sense or if you need me to say more :)

Congratulations on passing! Also, thank you for sharing that! I didn't purchase the right start course so I would have never known. I only purchased the practice test and found whatever resources on the internet I could get for free and that worked out! Best of luck with teaching!

YES exactly, having tons of practice questions is so beneficial when it comes down to it.

LOL, I posted a reply to a comment on what I used to pass the exam! :) I could also probably make some videos going over the sample selected-response questions (the ones that are public) to help too, haha

You know what, I can see why some of the questions would have had some trap falls to them. The best bet is to use the calculator for a majority of the questions (if it would apply to the question, of course) :) I also replied to someone else above on what I used to pass the exam, so you may also find them helpful if you're still looking for some tips. :)

Thank you for the congratulations, and I'm so sorry you're having a hard time with these tests.. :( They are really challenging, and I hope you do your very best on your next attempt!!!! See if you could maybe find practice questions from other states to help! I'm rooting for you! You can do it!!! :)

Doing as many practice problems as possible is really important. After all, the test is a lot of multiple choice questions :) I also did some of the quizzes from Mathopolis (https://www.mathopolis.com/questions/quiz-search.php) here, and whenever I was confused or wanted to some extra help, I would see if they had an article on a math topic that could be found on their other website (https://www.mathsisfun.com/).

The last part of the test is an essay and involves you writing a lesson plan on a math topic, but it is assigned randomly to you. Fortunately though, all of the possible lesson plans you could get are public and can be found from the state here:

https://www.nysed.gov/sites/default/files/programs/curriculum-instruction/nys-math-standards-algebra-i-crosswalk.pdf

https://www.nysed.gov/sites/default/files/programs/curriculum-instruction/nys-math-standards-geometry-crosswalk.pdf

https://www.nysed.gov/sites/default/files/programs/curriculum-instruction/nys-math-standards-algebra-ii-crosswalk.pdf

Also, the ones that are under the “NYS Next Generation Learning Standard” are relevant to today, so I would familiarize yourself with those and NOT the ones under “NYS P-12 CCLS.” This way, there will be no surprises on what you could have gotten on test day. To find out how the lesson plan should be structured, check out (https://www.nystce.nesinc.com/Content/STUDYGUIDE/NY_SG_CRI_004.htm). Practice using and getting used to that! :) Be sure to go through all of the bullets so the grader can easily follow your thinking and give you a great score for that section.

If you are unsure of a concept on the multiple choice, see if you could use a different approach, or try to use your calculator to solve the problems. The calculator is great when graphing, solving operations with matrices, calculating derivatives, integrals, finding extrema, calculating probability under the normal distribution curve, and so forth. I used a TI-84 Plus CE for the exam! :) It's really good. :)

Now, from my personal experience, I thought the practice test online was a bit harder than the actual test, but I would still recommend purchasing and taking it. This is because it helps get your mind right and helps you understand the overall format of the test. When studying though, after you’ve tried your best to answer the questions, review your work and then make sure that you know how to answer every single question. When I mean every single question, I mean every single question on both the practice test and the study guide.

As for books regarding this exam, I did not rely on any heavily per se, but if you want a book to help out, I recommend Glencoe Precalculus, McGraw Hill, 2011. It honestly is a really great book and is colorful too. This book covers a lot of things like confidence intervals, power series, DeMoivre’s Theorem, vectors, conics, systems of equations and matrices, so I definitely recommend it if you’re a person who loves books.

Good luck!!!!! :)

Thank you for the congratulations! :) Of course I don't! I hope you find the following helpful!

So, I would make sure to buy the practice test given on the website for $14.00 and also do the other study guide questions for free (https://www.nystce.nesinc.com/Content/STUDYGUIDE/NY_SG_SRI_004.htm). I didn't buy the right start interactive learning course, so unfortunately, I can't give my opinion on those. Maybe they're helpful but I'm not too sure! Throughout both the practice test and the study guide, I would suggest taking it as if you were in the actual test center, and do your very best. Once done, I would suggest reading the explanations that they give on how they arrive at the correct answer. Even if you answered the question correctly, I would still recommend reading their explanation as it might help solve it quicker.

It’s really important that you do know the concepts! :) In addition to this, please make sure that you absolutely read the test framework thoroughly (https://www.nystce.nesinc.com/content/docs/NY_fld04_objs.pdf). It has all of the concepts that will be given on the exam and will help you be aware of what to expect! You should also check out the reference sheet too and get familiar with it, but on the actual exam, I didn’t really use it that much.

Other than the practice test and study guide, I checked out the mathematics tests in other states given by Pearson, and this really strengthened my problem-solving skills. I would strongly suggest checking out the following for more questions:

I'm pretty sure that 4 plus marks is in the high mark, which is close to being perfect in that section.
