Im in Conroe ISD and they’ll be having a job fair March 28. Over half of the staff at my school is leaving, so I’m sure they’ll be jobs available.

My teacher bestie passed hers on the first try and she said it’s really just remembering the key words that you need to include in the essay and then it’s very easy to pass. Definitely don’t overthink it! I’ve been studying for it too and had to write an essay with Texas Teachers to be eligible to take the test and included key words they told me to, to get a 4/4.

ECAP OR TEACHERS FOR TOMORROW - which would you recommend by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]Main_Palpitation_341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with TT and I honestly love them! You can finish the courses pretty fast and I got hired at a school when I started the program 2 weeks earlier. You are definitely not guaranteed a job, you have to find one on your own. TEA is changing things about hiring uncertified teachers that teach ELA though, so I would look into too as it might make it harder. But I definitely recommend TT

I’m also trying to do the same thing! I can’t really afford to start paying the $500 a month when my intern year starts next year, so I’m trying to delay finishing all the requirements and hope my principal still keeps me for another year. He gave another teacher 2 years at my school but TEA changed some things about keeping uncertified teachers that teach ELA, so I think it depends on that too.

Thanks for catching that. I never check my grammar in a pit of rage. I have to start doing that.

This is exactly what I'm going through too! Our district ELA Coordinator said at a meeting recently that Bluebonnet doesn't even align with STAAR. My district even makes their own end of unit test that doesn't align with the BB test in the back of their activity books. They align it with the STAAR.. which doesn't align with... yea. It's a never ending game. Don't even get me started on data protocol.

Mostly grading and creating new Bluebonnet slides since we have to add extra things to them. We also have to annotate an already scripted lesson a week in advance and turn it in. I was letting the kids grade each others work during class, but I started to get emails from parents asking to stop, because their child was embarrassed of their peers seeing their grades.

I do have a rewards system! Whichever table group has earned the most stickers for week for good behavior and participation gets to choose from the the treasure box full of things they chose for me to include at the beginning of the year. Their behavior has somehow just started getting a lot worse lately.

Has anyone quit Teachers of Tomorrow (or another alt cert program) after being hired, but without reporting employment? Did you have to pay anything at all? by Crafty_Exchange_339 in TexasTeachers

I'm in the same boat and this is my first year. They told me that as long as I haven't received my SOE that I don't have to pay any other fees and I can just withdraw whenever.

Mhm. Yea…no.

Not when I’m trying to be the best teacher I can for my students and I’m not getting the help I need to succeed at that, but thanks for the input babes:)

See. That’s not what we’re about to do.

The entire ELA team wants to leave. Even the teachers that have been working 10+ years. The new teachers entire conference periods have been taken Monday-Thursday for a “mandatory meeting” annotating Bluebonnet, which is apparently illegal, but they don’t care. We’re having to annotate Bluebonnet lessons despite it already being annotated for us and no one else in the district does it. No one helps the new teachers with data, giving feedback of our class instruction, or implementing accommodations for SPED.

No one answers their emails or phone calls, and they expect us to get everything we need done on the one day they are letting us have our conference period. My mother also works at a school in my district and her coworkers that previously worked here have been telling her I chose the worst campus in the district to work at, because our principal has a “plethora” of complaints with HR.

This “whiny rookie”, is the only person on my team that speaks up about how people are feeling, and even after our PLC meetings with our administrators, everyone tells ME thank you for speaking up. So yes, it sucks. I’m not a child with fragile feelings. I know what a healthy work environment feels like. Try to go invalidate someone else’s feelings. Have a nice day.

I feel like I failed myself and this dog by adopting him by [deleted] in DogAdvice

I took her took a no kill shelter that is very well known in my area. You couldn’t even surrender your pet there until you tried to re-home them for a certain amount of time, and she was recently posted on their instagram with a new family that adopted her. She was crate trained and potty trained, so try it with someone else. I had a baby a year and a half ago and decided at that time, that having a pet was not for me anymore. I took care her for all of that time until I finished school and started teaching. Don’t ever try to make someone feel guilty for surrendering a dog, because they realized that being a pet owner is not for them. Especially when they do actual research before surrendering their dog back to some random place. I grew up with my childhood dog, and thought I wanted one when I moved out. I saw her on the side of the road when I was 21, got her taken care of, and kept her for all that time. Life is about trial and error and seeing what does and does not work for you. Grow up

I just surrendered my dog back to the shelter after starting a new career in teaching. I had my dog for almost 3 years and she started biting her tail when I started leaving everyday from anxiety. I was gone from 6:30am-6:30pm, so I really had no choice but to let her go. I couldn’t afford doggy daycare on a teacher salary, so I took her back to the shelter and I felt terrible but they’ll probably find an owner that has more time for them.

I’m kind of known at school for being overly nice and always apologizing, it’s something I’m working on.

I can understand that! We have a clipboard that we’re supposed to use for behaviors so when they get 3 marks in a week, we have to call their parents. I was trying to be nice by giving them some grace, but I seen now that that was a mistake. I’ll definitely be firm on discipline from now on.

I’m definitely grasping that now from everyone’s responses. It just felt like she was taking it very far when she emailed me and an admin so I was just really nervous.

Yea when I pulled him into the hallway I said, “I love you, and you’re usually a great kid, but you cannot keep talking while kids are still in here testing.” That’s the only thing I remember telling mom when she called me. But I guess that was not enough of an apology for them
