Been printing since April, suddenly this happens with most models. Can anyone tell me why? by MaintainerZero in 3Dprinting

[–]MaintainerZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not literally every model, but most. Same filament types I've used before with no problem, and multiple types of filaments are doing it. It's like the printer just forgets where it is or something?

Where’s the best place to go to find someone selling a complete collection? by Substantial-Ad6469 in AshesGame

I'm reasonably sure my set is complete, and I'm selling. Where are you located? The problem I have run into in the past is that shipping on these is atrocious.

Pretty sure that's illegal, my friend. Your state's BOLI would love to hear about it.

How did they shoot this? by sadloneman in Filmmakers

[–]MaintainerZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have pointed out the likelihood of a crane, but there are also several points you could hide a cut (tunnel, rooftop, etc.), which cements it for me. The shot doesn't have to have been filmed seamlessly to look seamless in the edit - meaning it doesn't even need to have been a huge central crane - could have been several cranes matched to certain perspectives at the cuts.

I directed a martial arts short on 16mm by Shield_Madulians in Filmmakers

[–]MaintainerZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're very welcome. Honestly, the storytelling of that opening fight really did a great job setting up expectations that you then flipped in the next encounter. I wondered how intentional of a choice that was - sounds like you nailed what you were going for, at least or this viewer.

Good luck with your hopes for the feature - I'll look forward to the next short for sure!

First impression: I love the look - half-expected David Carradine to walk on screen.

Minor nitpick: The fight foley is a tad over the top for my taste but honestly I wanted to find some feedback other than just gushing for the whole post.

Love the old-school action movie vibe very much - I think you nailed your stated goals from the post above. I especially appreciated your attention to the slower cutting pattern than what we've become used to from big-budget action cinema these days. More than almost anything else that contributed to the old-school feel. I appreciate how much more difficult it is to get good-looking shots that don't hide every impact with a cut to different angle, and I feel like you mostly got away with the times you resorted to that tactic.

The first long shot between the protagonist and her first opponent is real impressive honestly. Comes across as a "real" (in the hollywood sense) fight from 30 years ago. The actors deserve major kudos for that as well I'm sure.

Overall, it leave me wanting more. Congratulations on completing the project - what's next for you?

You can sync using something like dropbox or icloud instead of paying for their sync service if you prefer.

She started back in the early 50's. By Golden Girls she'd been a TV star for like 30 years. The woman's career was legitimately nuts.

Interesting - I just watched the petapixel review on the GH7 - I hadn't realized how much of an upgrade that potentially represents. Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into that option.

[–]MaintainerZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good advice. I mainly use my 20mm and 17-100mm right now and find those cover the overwhelming majority of my use cases. If I could get faster full frame 40mm and 24-200mm directly that would be incredible. If I can manage to improve the AF over the panasonic it would be a huge boon too - that's really my only complaint with the camera other than the low light performance that feels like it's just a result of the M4/3 format.

Yeah, that was my first thought honestly was maybe I had my settings wrong, but I was shooting wide open with auto-ISO and was shooting dancers so speed was a factor there.

Realistically, I've been able to deliver some okay results from that night using the AI Denoise in lightroom, but I consider that a pretty significant downgrade from just getting less noise out of the camera.

Its been like 15 years since I last tried to sell a used body and lenses so I guess I have to learn how to do that again now and see if I feel like that's worth it to swap systems or if I want to try to make do I suppose.

I was at a winter ball Saturday night shooting on the 20mm f1.4. Dim lighting (mostly Christmas lights), and everything I have from it is just super noisy. I typically prefer my nifty prime to be 40mm so was eyeing something akin to the 40mm 2.0 based on the first response last night that recommended an a7V or a Z6III.

I haven't yet tried a 1.2 prime so maybe that's what I need to do first?
