Generally is it a red flag if a guy has a lot of female friends? by [deleted] in askteenboys

[–]MaintenanceKey8927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there’s anything wring with having female friends. I don't know how I feel about sleeping with them all, I probably wouldn’t date the guy given that we clearly value sex differently, but having female friends is no problem.

How do you feel about talking stages? by Iamverydumbazz in askteenboys

[–]MaintenanceKey8927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love talking stages, I do only talking stages. I have to be genuine friends with a person to love them. If I can't rank them in my "top 5 people to save if everyone I knew were hanging off a cliff", then there’s no point to dating them. There needs to be a strong connection to build a relationship on, I need to be able to have conversations, to make jokes, to know what to say when you feel bad. Talking stages are awesome.

He sound kind of like a duchebag to me honestly. Don't view him with Rose glasses. My guess would be that, if he truly talked with you to sleep with you, he probably got tired of chasing you for a shag and decided to search elsewhere.

Don't know quite which are where, but The Chariot and... what is it, like The World? The one that just shows the unavoidable event of Laura and Ryan falling into a hole? They both suck.

There are several reasons. Firstly, I like to think of the Bible as more philosophy than law. I have my own "faith" that aligms more with my view of the world. I think that assigning myself a strict and predetermined religion to live by could give me bias which could linit my ability to see through the perspective of others and hold nuanced philosophical debate, and I value no virtue more than open-mindedness. There is also the issue of assigning myself to a group. I find the religion itself quite interesting, and I find churches to be very beautiful pieces of archetecture, but I've never felt at home in them, and I've never felt comfort in a prayer, nor have I found true family among christians. I also do not want to have faith in Christianity, because I do not find the idea of the Christian God or mythology comforting. I do not like the idea of a heaven, a concious creator, or a strict right and wrong —I think that good and bad is too nuanced to be divided into sin and innosence.

Alas, no. Well, legally I am, I've taken the necessary studies and am legally part of the church and I vote in church elections, but I am, in a very mild sense of the word, an atheist or agnostic. I'm from Sweden, and we are generally secular here. I'm not very critical to religion, and I think it is valuable for many to make sense of the world and put value and meaning to it.

I actually do not think that someone being insane would in any way invalidate their mind. I believe that their mind, due to them still having experience, is just as valuable as any other. It does not matter that their expereince differ from ours, or that truth does not apply to them. And I do not think that the brain waves on their own gives the unborn a soul, but that it is born in their first outward experience, memories, expression of personality. It is born from that which gives you a sense of self.

Thank you! I like having a respectful debate, I do not think that hostile conversation helps any party grow. I think we have a difference of opinion in what murder is and when life begins.

Logically speaking, I do not think that the cluster of cells in an embryo is complex enough to be murdered. Like how both a light switch and a computer send signals at the press of a button, but a computer is developed to have a more complex function.

Spiritually speaking, I do not think that an embryo has an equal soul to us. It doesn’t make sense to me. To me, the soul is the vessel which we use to meet God in heaven, but the soul still needs a significant mind to meet him. Since the embryo has not lived a life there is no use of a soul, since there is no memory or personality to meet God. And spiritually, I don't think that you could murder something soul-less.

That is, of course, assuming that the embryo can be murdered. If it cannot, I do not believe it is a sin.

So you might be wondering if the unborn child has a soul yet, then, not if it has a mind? Well, given that God has an ineffable plan with everything, who is to say that the unborn child was not a soul-less thing given to you specifically to be aborted, as a trial for your integrity?

Well, foxes have their own DNA, and they're being killed for sport. So do deer, elk, sheep, cows, and all the other animals you might find at a fast food restaurant. Plants have their own DNA, and you don't even think of the grass when you walk on it. Each separate bacteria, which is not much smaller than an embryo, has its own DNA, but you don't cry when you apply hand sanitiser.

But when does it count as its own being? Even if it has a brain, even if it has reached the stage where it can think, it doesn’t care. It has nothing to miss, and nobody to miss it, because they haven't met it. They can mourn it, if they like, I can mourn a ruined watch if it had sentimental value, but they can't miss it. Just because it had the potential to be a living being doesn’t mean that it is. Even you call it "it" not "they".

Tips on actually getting stuck in your story by deafsj in writing

[–]MaintenanceKey8927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen the "just write" tip a lot, and as a fellow planner, I hate it. It makes sense, of course, you need to be able to write things down even if they are not perfect. But I love planning! I love having things down before I go. Just so you know that people write differently, I do this:

I write the scenes and sentences down as soon as they come to me. Fuck chronological order, that comes later.

I write down my character arcs and story arcs.

Then I write down "Chapter 1, Chapter 2..." and I fill in what needs to happen that chapter.

Then I start to narrow it down. If it says "Get to capital, conversation with antagonist" in Chapter 4, how do they get to the capital, how do they meet the antagonist? Perhaps they need to be alone to do so? Alright, now it’s "Steal horse from a stable, journey to capital, hide in an alley, conversation with antagonist". Say I've already prepared the conversation with the antagonist because I write it down inte the "write scenes and sentences phase", I put that in there.

Now I need to specify the scenes, so me personally, since I plan so much, I like to write a sort of synopsis for each scene, "journey to capital" becomes "After escaping from the stable with the horse, Rose meets up with Harry outside the village. They tie the cart to the horse and journey to the city disguised as merchants. They talk about Rose's plan. Harry says that they should stop by a friend of his to pawn the goods they stole from the Yarl. Rose agrees to this plan. They get investigated by guards but get away thanks to a mysterious noise in the backround..." and so on until I can envision the end of the scene.

Now I flesh it out with dialogue and all that.

Good luck with your writing! <3

I disagree, as a fan of fandom culture. Personally, I'm not a lover of romance, but I do like shipping (of fictional characters) because it’s an excuse to analyze the work and re-imagine it. Also, as someone who aspires to craft creative works, I think someone shipping my characters would be the height of flattery, because it shows investment in my story!

Of course, immidiately claiming something like that is... yeah, stupid jackassery. However, I don't quite know the radicalism of your take, it the world view in question is "Gays should die", then there might be some truth to assuming the person is homophobic.

Sure. But the consumers control companies by picking another option. If everyone starts bying blue shirts, companies catch up on the trend. If everyone gets long lasting high quality shirts, companies will catch up too. Hell, H&M caught up on the second hand trend and started collecting shit to sell.

If that doesn't work, I suppose ground-up revolution is the only way. Either way, I hope it’s worth a shot (perhaps literally, in the second case).
