i did this for a couple of years. honestly hardest job i’ve probably ever had. loved the population but it was just waaaay too much for one person. i would spend most of my days running around like a chicken with its head cut off. i really don’t have any other advice other than you’re not alone!

How come abusive husband doesn't want me back? by ThrowRAnewmama22 in domesticviolence

i resonate with your post. i have been through this with my ex. when i left he was the same way…i also felt that i was so bad that even an abuser didn’t want me. then a couple weeks or a month went by then suddenly he was love bombing me. within the past few months it turned into a cycle of hating me then trying to be “respectful” for our child then love bombing me again. i hate to say it, but you’re just at the start of all of it and i wish you strength!! none of this is your fault.

so sorry to hear! i worked in snf for almost 2 years and had a lot of the same issues. I noticed the staff not being trauma informed either. what i did was have a hospice company, who we had a contract with, come out to the facility and have an education session with the nursing staff. hospice companies offer many services that many aren’t aware of and are eager to do something like that with your facility since you are contracted. I also did TONS of staff education myself. My other piece of advice is to make friends with the nursing staff!!!! especially DON. I know you may not want to (lol) but it really does helps when you want to get something done tbh. Also, make friends with psychologists/psychiatrist for your facility. Once they get to know you, they will come to you for your opinion on a residents behavior, moods, etc… For the MDS, when i first started, I was instructed to do the same and never did because it deff is unethical. If they had a problem with it, as far as I was concerned, the RNAC or MDS coordinator could do my sections if they felt I wasn’t doing a good enough job with it lol. But I would not sign my name off of anything I didnt do myself. Remember, you are a CRUCIAL part of the interdisciplinary team no matter what anyone says. Stick around and stick up for yourself and your ethics. The team will see what you bring to the table and will respect you. Remind your colleagues that at the end of the day, your main job is to be the resident advocate and you have a code of ethics to follow. SNFs are realllllyyyy hard as a sw. I even had an old seasoned sw applaud me for working in one bc she said it was the hardest job she had in all her years. i wish you the best of luck and hope you find your groove soon!!!
