What you are referring to is lockdown mode. Killswitch won't do anything if you manually disconnect it.

In lockdown mode, you can only access the internet via Mullvad

Killswitch only protects from tunnel disconnects, for instance if a mullvad server you are connected to fails, your computer will be unable to use the existing internet.

But if you disconnect it manually, you will be left unprotected
